Abstract
The interest in the study of heteroaromatic thioamides which are known to exhibit antithyroid activity is stimulated by the variety and an unusual structure their complexes with molecular iodine. The directions of dithiones investigation are diversity enough, however a few works are devoted to the study them as the potential thyreostatics. The ability of 5-mercapto-3-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thion potassium salt to form the outer-sphere charge-transfer complex in dilute chloroform solution, coordinating 2 iodine molecules has been studied by UV-vis spectroscopy (lgβ=7.91). The compound of the 5,5'-disulfanediylbis(3-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2(3H)-thione) - product of irreversible oxidation of 5-mercapto-3-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thione potassium salt has been isolated and characterized by X-ray diffraction. Intermolecular interactions between sulfur atoms are observed with very short interatomic distance, shorter than sum of van der Waals radii. The contact between heterocyclic sulfur and heterocyclic nitrogen is also slightly short - 3.169Å (0.053Å less than vdW radii sum). This investigation constitutes a starting point for study of novel antithyroid drugs in future.

Abstract
2,4-Ditellurouracil exhibits keto-enol tautomerism via different pathways resulting in seven tautomers. These pathways were studied in the gas phase using density functional theory method. The functionals used were BLYP, B3LYP and BHLYP and the basis sets were 6-311++G(d,p) for all atoms except that LanL2DZ ECP was used for tellurium atom only. The results indicate that the diketo form is more stable as observed for uracil and its sulfur and selenium analogues. The effect of introducing fluorine at position 5 was also investigated and the energy difference between the diketo and dienol forms is reduced. 2,4-Ditellurouracil and its 5-fluoro analogue are expected to exist exclusively as the diketo form due to the high interconversion energy barrier. We extended the investigation to predict ADME parameters of the most stable diketo and dienol tautomers in view of understanding their biological properties. This research enlightens keto-enol tautomerism of 2,4-ditellurouracil and its 5-fluoro derivative with additional insights to biological functions.

Abstract
Raman and FTIR spectra of solid 2,4-Dithiouracil (DTU) at room temperature have been recorded. DFT calculations were carried out to compute the optimized molecular geometries, GAPT charges and fundamental vibrational frequencies along with their corresponding IR intensities, Raman activities and depolarization ratios of the Raman bands for the neutral DTU molecule and its cation (DTU+) and anion (DTU-) using the Gaussian-03 software. Addition of one electron leads to increase in the atomic charges on the sites N1 and N3 and decrease in the atomic charges on the sites S8 and S10. Due to ionization of DTU molecule, the charge at the site C6 decreases in the cationic and anionic radicals of DTU as compared to its neutral species. As a result of anionic radicalization, the C5C6 bond length increases and loses its double bond character while the C4C5 bond length decreases. In the case of the DTU+ ion the IR and Raman band corresponding to the out-of-phase coupled NH stretching mode is strongest amongst the three species. The anionic DTU radical is found to be the most stable. The two NH out-of-plane bending modes are found to originate due to out-of-phase and in-phase coupling of the two NH bonds in the anion and cation contrary to the case of the neutral DTU molecule in which the out-of-plane bending motions of the two NH bonds are not coupled.

Abstract
The nature of medium strong intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding in 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzamide in the crystal phase was examined by infrared spectroscopy and Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics simulation. The focal point of our study was the part of the infrared spectra associated with the O-H and N-H stretching modes that are very sensitive to the strength of hydrogen bonding. For spectra calculations we used an isolated dimer and the fully periodic crystal environment. We calculated the spectra by using harmonic approximation, the time course of the dipole moment function as obtained from the Car-Parrinello simulation, and the quantization of the nuclear motion of the proton for an instantaneous snapshot of the structures in one and two dimensions. Although quantitative assessment of the agreement between the computed and experimental band contour is difficult due to the fact that the experimental band is very broad, we feel that the most reasonable qualitative agreement with the experiment is obtained from snapshot structures and two-dimensional quantization of the proton motion. We have also critically examined the methods of constructing the one-dimensional proton potential. Perspectives are given for the treatment of nuclear quantum effects in biocatalysis.

Abstract
Unimolecular phototautomeric reactions in 4-thiouracil, 1-methyl-4-thiouracil and 6-aza-4-thiouracil were studied using the matrix-isolation technique combined with infrared absorption spectroscopy. For monomers of these compounds, isolated in solid argon at 10 K, an intramolecular proton-transfer photoreaction was observed. Upon UV (lambda > 345 nm) irradiation, the initial oxo-thione forms of 4-thiouracils were converted into the corresponding oxo-thiol tautomers. The photogenerated oxo-thiol isomers were identified by comparing their experimental IR spectra with the spectra theoretically calculated at the DFT(B3LYP)/6-311++G(2d,p) level. Good agreement between the observed and predicted pattern of spectral bands allowed a reliable identification. This is the first report on experimental observation of isomeric forms of 4-thiouracils other than the canonical oxo-thione tautomers.

Abstract
Unimolecular photoisomerization reactions were studied for 2-thiouracil, 6-aza-2-thiothymine, 1-methyl-2-thiouracil, and 3-methyl-2-thiouracil isolated in low-temperature Ar matrixes. The IR spectra have revealed that before UV irradiation all the matrix-isolated compounds adopted exclusively the oxo-thione tautomeric form. Upon UV (lambda > 320 nm) irradiation of the matrixes, two oxo-thiol photoproducts were generated for monomeric 2-thiouracil as well as for monomeric 6-aza-2-thiothymine. Generation of these products corresponds to transfer of a proton from either the N(1)-H or N(3)-H group to the sulfur atom of the C(2)=S thiocarbonyl moiety. The first of the above reactions was photoreversible. As a consequence, after prolonged UV irradiation most of the material was transformed into the oxo-thiol-N(1)H form. The hydroxy-thiol tautomers of 2-thiouracil and 6-aza-2-thiothymine were also photogenerated as minor products. For 1-methyl-2-thiouracil and 3-methyl-2-thiouracil, thione --> thiol phototautomeric reactions yielded the oxo-thiol isomers of the compounds. Since these reactions were photoreversible, the final stages of the photoinduced processes corresponded, for both methylated 2-thiouracils, to photostationary states. All the products of the investigated photoreactions were identified by comparison of their IR spectra with the spectra calculated at the DFT(B3LYP)/6-311++G(2d,p) level.

Abstract
Trithiocyanuric acid (C(3)H(3)N(3)S(3)) monomers were studied using FTIR spectroscopy combined with the matrix isolation technique. The matrix-isolated compound adopted only the trithione tautomeric form, as revealed by its IR spectra. Upon UV irradiation (lambda > 270 nm), the trithiol tautomeric form of trithiocyanuric acid (trimercaptotriazine) was generated. This is the first observation of an intramolecular triple trithione --> trithiol photoinduced proton transfer. The substrate and the product of the photoreaction were identified by comparison of their IR spectra with the spectra theoretically calculated (at the DFT(B3LYP)/6-31++G(d,p) level) for the trithione D(3)(h) and trithiol C(3)(h) structures, respectively. The IR absorption bands observed in the experimental spectra were assigned to the calculated normal modes. The theoretical normal modes were analyzed in terms of symmetry-adapted internal coordinates. Consistent sets of symmetry coordinates applicable for the description of in- and out-of-plane movements of six-membered rings with D(3)(h) and C(3)(h) symmetry were defined for the first time.
