Theoretical and experimental study of the vibrational spectrum of N-acetyl-L-alanine

Estimation of the rotamerization constants of different conformations of N-acetylalanine: a theoretical and matrix-isolation FT-IR study

The conformational landscape of N-acetylalanine has been investigated by a theoretical and matrix-isolation FT-IR study. Optimizations of N-acetylalanine structures has been conducted at successive higher levels of theory HF/3-21G, DFT(B3LYP)/6-31++G** and MP2/6-31++G**. This resulted in three stable conformations. Among these, one conformation contains an intramolecular H-bond. The vibrational properties of these conformations were calculated and used to identify the conformations in a cryogenic argon matrix. The intensities of some bands assigned to a particular conformation were used to estimate the rotamerization constants K(r12) and K(r13) for the equilibria NAA1 NAA2 and NAA1 NAA3, respectively. The obtained experimental values were in agreement with the theoretical predictions.

Density-functional theory and ab initio Hartree–Fork studies on the structural parameters and chemical activity of the free radicals generated by benzoquinone and hydroquinone

Density-functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed for calculation of the theoretical spectra and the chemical activities of free radicals generated by benzoquinone and hydroquinone as well as the transition states, and the calculated spectra were used for the assignment of the frequencies observed in the experimental IR spectra. The calculated geometrical parameters, the predicted IR spectra, and the chemical activities of free radicals and transition states were also compared with those of benzoquinone and hydroquinone. The reactive mechanisms of free radicals generated by benzoquinone and hydroquinone are also discussed using ab initio Hartree-Fork (HF) methods.

Theoretical and vibrational study of the conformation of 2-methoxy- 1,2-diphenylethanone

The conformation and vibrational properties of 2-methoxy-1,2-diphenylethanone (MDPE) are investigated in the gas phase and in organic solvents. Ab initio calculations carried out at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level demonstrate that three stable conformers having cisoid, skewed and transoid structures are present in the gas phase. In the gas phase, the conformers are separated by a low energy barrier and their relative energies do not differ by more than 7.2 kJ mol (-1) Like in crystalline MDPE 'Acta Crystallogr. Sect. C 44 (1988) 894', weak CH...O hydrogen bonds are present in the cisoid conformation. The IR and Raman spectra of solid MDPE are discussed. Several vibrational modes are split in organic solvents. A comparison between the theoretical data and the experimental dipole moments indicates that two conformers are present in solution, the population of the cisoid form increasing with the permittivity of the medium.
