Abstract
Alcohols have a wide range of applicability, and their functions vary with the carbon numbers. C6 and C4 alditols are alternative of sweetener, as well as significant pharmaceutical and chemical intermediates, which are mainly obtained through the fermentation of microorganism currently. Similarly, as a bulk chemical, C2 alditol plays a decisive role in chemical synthesis. However, among them, few works have been focused on the chemical production of C4 alditol yet due to its difficult accumulation. In this paper, under a static and semi-flowing procedure, we have achieved the product control during the conversion of C6 aldose toward C6 alditol, C4 alditol and C2 alditol, respectively. About C4 alditol yield of 20 % and C4 plus C6 alditols yield of 60 % are acquired in the one-pot conversion via a cascade retro-aldol condensation and hydrogenation process. Furthermore, in the semi-flowing condition, the yield of ethylene glycol is up to 73 % thanks to its low instantaneous concentration.

Synthesis of TiO2–ZrO2 Mixed Oxides via the Alginate Route: Application in the Ru Catalytic Hydrogenation of Levulinic Acid to Gamma-Valerolactone. ENERGIES 2019. Abstract
In this work, high surface area mono- and binary oxide materials based on zirconia and titania synthetized via the alginate route were applied as supports of ruthenium catalysts used in levulinic acid hydrogenation towards γ–valerolactone. The physicochemical properties of the catalysts were investigated using surface (like time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM)) and bulk techniques (temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), X-ray diffraction (XRD)). The obtained results exhibited that the proposed synthesis method allows for modification of the shape, morphology, and surface properties of the studied materials. These catalysts were tested in levulinic acid hydrogenation, in which catalytic support is known to be crucial. The results revealed that the titania-supported catalyst was the most active in the reaction mentioned above, while the highest mechanical stability was observed for zirconia-supported materials.

Abstract
Ruthenium (Ru) supported on activated carbon (AC) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was carried out in the hydrogenolysis of sorbitol to ethylene glycol (EG) and 1,2-propanediol (1,2-PD) under the promotion of tungsten (WOx) species and different bases. Their catalytic activities and glycols selectivities strongly depended on the support properties and location of Ru on CNTs, owning to the altered metal-support interactions and electronic state of ruthenium. Ru located outside of the tubes showed excellent catalytic performance than those encapsulated inside the nanotubes. Additionally, the introduction of WOx into Ru/CNTs significantly improved the hydrogenolysis activities, and a complete conversion of sorbitol with up to 60.2% 1,2-PD and EG yields was obtained on RuWOx/CNTs catalyst upon addition of Ca(OH)2. Stability study showed that this catalyst was highly stable against leaching and poisoning and could be recycled several times.
