Exploring the Untapped Potential of Neuromarketing in Online Learning: Implications and Challenges for the Higher Education Sector in Europe

This research investigates the impact of applying neuromarketing techniques to three practical examples of higher education (HE) branding: an official college website page, an official college Facebook page, and recorded online video lectures used for teaching at HE institutions. The study was conducted in three different HE institutions with a representative sample of 720 participants, with n = 529 used for testing the CARE college website, n = 59 for testing the HAZEF Facebook page, and n = 132 for testing the emotional response of students studying online. To assess the participants' emotional responses, this study utilized automated facial coding through a webcam (15 Hz) and considered mood intensities. Additionally, a sentiment analysis was employed to verify the survey results and determine any discrepancies in the cognitive response. By analyzing gaze activity, movement patterns, and emotional responses, valuable insights were gained into students' behaviors and preferences. This study recommends incorporating neuromarketing research into HE branding and online teaching to enhance students' learning experiences. Overall, this study contributes to the understanding of human expectations and behaviors in response to online teaching and provides valuable insights for HE institutions in Europe.

Image review on mobile devices for suspected stroke patients: Evaluation of the mRay software solution

PURPOSE

Software solutions such as mRay allow review of radiological images on handheld devices. We investigated if the quality is adequate for evaluating CT scans of patients with suspected stroke.

METHODS

50 patients (Median age 80 years, 28 females) were retrospectively selected. All patients had undergone multidetector CT angiography ± perfusion and presented with clinical signs of acute stroke. Out of the 50 patients, 19 had large-vessel occlusion (LVO), 5 had intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), 10 had severe intracranial stenosis of at least one major vessel, 2 had intracranial tumor and 15 had no or an unrelated pathology. One experienced neuroradiologist and one resident scored the anonymized pictures separately on two handheld devices (iPhone 7 Plus, MED-TAB) equipped with mRay Software and on a PACS workstation. Each case was reviewed on all three devices with a break in-between of at least 12 weeks. The scoring on the traditional workstation was compared with the two handheld devices, regarding detection of early ischemic signs, LVOs, CBV/CBF-mismatch, ICHs and severe stenosis. Both raters were asked to rate the diagnostic quality of both handheld devices regarding detection of LVOs, ICHs, early ischemic signs and overall.

RESULTS

All LVOs, intracranial tumors and ICHs were detected on both mobile devices. There was no significant difference in the rating of CCT and CBF ASPECTS between all three devices, while the sensitivity for detecting a CBF/CBV-mismatch was above 80% on both devices. Both raters assessed the diagnostic quality to be sufficient on both mobile devices to base treatment decisions on.

CONCLUSION

Software solutions such as mRay for handheld devices provide adequate diagnostic quality for the review of CT scans of suspected stroke patients.

Reliability of diagnosing acute ischemic cerebrovascular on magnetic resonance imaging disorders using iPads

PURPOSE

The use of tablet terminals has been explored in various medical settings; however, caution should be exercised when performing image diagnosis using this technology. The present study examined the characteristics of an iPad Air™ monitor and assessed radiographic image interpretations to verify the reliability of the telediagnosis of acute cerebral infarction based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using a tablet terminal.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The luminance of the iPad Air™ was measured using a UA-10 analyzer, and radiographic image interpretation experiments were performed in 100 patients who underwent MRI within 6 h of symptom onset. Ten physicians viewed the images on the iPad Air™ and a medical monitor, with an interval of 2 months between each interpretation.

RESULTS

When the iPad Air™ screen was pure white, the contour lines revealed nonuniform luminance distribution. In the reading experiment, the areas under the curve of the medical monitor and the iPad Air™ were 0.9311 and 0.9431, respectively. No significant difference was observed between the medical monitor and the iPad Air™ (p = 0.113).

CONCLUSION

The results of the observer performance studies for detecting acute ischemic cerebrovascular disorders on an iPad Air™ were found to be similar to those on a medical monitor.

The Current State and Path Forward For Enterprise Image Viewing: HIMSS-SIIM Collaborative White Paper

This white paper will describe the enterprise viewer use cases, drivers of recent growth, technical considerations, functionality differences between enterprise and specialty viewers, and likely future states. This white paper is aimed at CMIOs and CIOs interested in optimizing the image-enablement of their electronic health record or those who may be struggling with the many clinical image viewers their enterprises may employ today.
