Enhanced Light Olefin Production in Chloromethane Coupling over Mg/Ca Modified Durable HZSM-5 Catalyst

Co-Promoted Ni Nanocatalysts Derived from NiCoAl-LDHs for Low Temperature CO2 Methanation

Ni-based catalysts are prone to agglomeration and carbon deposition at high temperatures. Therefore, the development of Ni-based catalysts with high activities at low temperatures is a very urgent and challenging research topic. Herein, Ni-based nanocatalysts containing Co promoter with mosaic structure were prepared by reduction of NiCoAl-LDHs, and used for CO2 methanation. When the reaction temperature is 250 °C (0.1 MPa, GHSV = 30,000 mL·g−1·h−1), the conversion of CO2 on the NiCo0.5Al-R catalyst reaches 81%. However, under the same test conditions, the conversion of CO2 on the NiAl-R catalyst is only 26%. The low-temperature activity is significantly improved due to Co which can effectively control the size of the Ni particles, so that the catalyst contains more active sites. The CO2-TPD results show that the Co can also regulate the number of moderately basic sites in the catalyst, which is beneficial to increase the amount of CO2 adsorbed. More importantly, the NiCo0.5Al-R catalyst still maintains high catalytic performance after 92 h of continuous reaction. This is due to the confinement effect of the AlOx substrate inhibiting the agglomeration of Ni nanoparticles. The Ni-based catalysts with high performance at low temperature and high stability prepared by the method used have broad industrial application prospects.

Understanding Hydrodechlorination of Chloromethanes. Past and Future of the Technology

Chloromethanes are a group of volatile organic compounds that are harmful to the environment and human health. Abundant studies have verified that hydrodechlorination might be an effective treatment to remove these chlorinated pollutants. The most outstanding advantages of this technique are the moderate operating conditions used and the possibility of obtaining less hazardous valuable products. This review presents a global analysis of experimental and theoretical studies regarding the hydrodechlorination of chloromethanes. The catalysts used and their synthesis methods are summarized. Their physicochemical properties are analyzed in order to deeply understand their influence on the catalytic performance. Moreover, the main causes of the catalyst deactivation are explained, and prevention and regeneration methods are suggested. The reaction systems used and the effect of the operating conditions on the catalytic activity are also analyzed. Besides, the mechanisms and kinetics of the process at the atomic level are reviewed. Finally, a new perspective for the upgrading of chloromethanes, via hydrodechlorination, to valuable hydrocarbons for industry, such as light olefins, is discussed.

Applications of Zeolites to C1 Chemistry: Recent Advances, Challenges, and Opportunities

C1 chemistry, which is the catalytic transformation of C1 molecules including CO, CO₂ , CH₄ , CH₃ OH, and HCOOH, plays an important role in providing energy and chemical supplies while meeting environmental requirements. Zeolites are highly efficient solid catalysts used in the chemical industry. The design and development of zeolite-based mono-, bi-, and multifunctional catalysts has led to a booming application of zeolite-based catalysts to C1 chemistry. Combining the advantages of zeolites and metallic catalytic species has promoted the catalytic production of various hydrocarbons (e.g., methane, light olefins, aromatics, and liquid fuels) and oxygenates (e.g., methanol, dimethyl ether, formic acid, and higher alcohols) from C1 molecules. The key zeolite descriptors that influence catalytic performance, such as framework topologies, nanoconfinement effects, Brønsted acidities, secondary-pore systems, particle sizes, extraframework cations and atoms, hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity, and proximity between acid and metallic sites are discussed to provide a deep understanding of the significance of zeolites to C1 chemistry. An outlook regarding challenges and opportunities for the conversion of C1 resources using zeolite-based catalysts to meet emerging energy and environmental demands is also presented.
