Abstract
In recent years, organic-inorganic hybrid materials have demonstrated exceptional performance in nonlinear optics, attracting widespread attention. However, there are relatively few examples of coordination compounds synthesized with Cu as the metal center that exhibit excellent nonlinear optical properties. In this study, we successfully synthesized a pair of enantiomers named R/S-Cu2I2 by reacting chiral ligands with CuI. The crystal structure reveals a one-dimensional copper-iodide chain structure built by Cu2I2 clusters, and its ordered arrangement in space provides not only a strong second harmonic generation (SHG) signal (1.24 × KDP) but also a large birefringence (0.15@1064 nm). Under excitation at 395 nm, the crystals exhibit red fluorescence peaked at 675 nm. The CD spectra of R/S-Cu2I2 show a distinct mirror-symmetric Cotton effect, and their CPL signals are corresponding and opposite in the emission range, with a maximum glum of approximately ±2.5 × 10-3. Theoretical calculations using density functional theory were also carried out to enhance our understanding of the correlation between their structures and optical properties.

Abstract
Designing new compounds based on anion regulation has been widely favored due to the production of diverse crystal structures and excellent optical properties. Here, a new nitrate oxyfluoride, Hg16O12(NO3)6F2(H2O), has been obtained through a hydrothermal reaction. It crystallizes in the centric Ibca space group and shows a novel three-dimensional [(Hg16O12F2(H2O))6+]∞ cationic framework composed of interconnected HgO2F, HgO3, and HgO2(H2O) units, with isolated NO3- groups as balanced anions to build the whole structure. Notably, the HgO2F and HgO2(H2O) units are first presented here among mercury (Hg)-based compounds. Additionally, Hg16O12(NO3)6F2(H2O) exhibits a large birefringence of 0.17 at 546 nm. This work enriches the multiformity of Hg-based compounds and provides a route for developing promising birefringent materials.

Abstract
Low-dimensional crystalline materials have attracted much attention due to their special physical and chemical properties. Herein, two new oxalate chlorides, C(NH2)3Cd(C2O4)Cl(H2O)·H2O and BaCd(C2O4)1.5Cl(H2O)2, were synthesized. C(NH2)3Cd(C2O4)Cl(H2O)·H2O presents the unique {[Cd(C2O4)Cl(H2O)]-}∞ zigzag chain, while BaCd(C2O4)1.5Cl(H2O)2 shows a novel {[Cd(C2O4)1.5Cl]2-}∞ layer. They showed large measured band gaps, which were 3.76 and 4.53 eV, respectively, and the latter was the largest band gap in the A-M-C2O4-X (A = Monovalent cationic or alkaline earth metals, X = F, Cl, Br, I) family. They exhibit a large calculated birefringence of 0.075 and 0.096 at 1064 nm, respectively. This study promotes the exploration of synthesizing low-dimensional crystalline materials with balanced overall optical performances by a chemical scissors strategy.

Abstract
Organic-inorganic hybrid Pb-halide perovskites have attracted tremendous interest due to their potential application in photovoltaic and optoelectronic fields. However, the toxicity and poor stability of Pb-halide perovskites have become key bottlenecks toward their future commercialization and industrialization. Therefore, in this work, two novel hybrid lead-free perovskite nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals (2-AMP)2BiX7·H2O (X = Cl, Br) with high stability were successfully synthesized. Both the crystals belong to the orthorhombic P212121 space group, displaying a zero-dimensional perovskite structure. The thermal, environmental, and solvent atmospheric stabilities were comprehensively investigated, with high thermal stability up to 170 °C and high environmental and high solvent atmospheric stability observed for (2-AMP)2BiBr7·H2O. First-principles calculations were carried out to study the relationship of the structure and properties. A large birefringence of 0.1368@1064 nm was determined for (2-AMP)2BiBr7·H2O, which was derived from the strong aeolotropic conjugated π-electron distribution of planar 2-aminomethylpyridium. A second-harmonic generation (SHG) effect that was 0.25 and 0.32 times that of KH2PO4 (KDP) was measured for (2-AMP)2BiCl7·H2O and (2-AMP)2BiBr7·H2O, respectively, and the stronger SHG response of bromide was attributed to the larger distortions of {BiBr6} octahedrons. This work may offer new guidance for exploration of low toxicity and high stability of perovskite NLO materials.

Abstract
Zero-dimensional (0D) hybrid manganese halides have been recently synthesized and exhibited rich functional properties including fluorescence, ferroelectrics, and ferromagnetism. However, few studies on second-harmonic generation (SHG) behaviors of manganese halide crystals have been reported, presumably owing to the d-d transitions. Here, we report three manganese bromides, [TEA]2MnBr4 (TEA+ = tetraethylammonium; 1), [BTEA]2MnBr4 (BTEA+ = benzyltriethylammonium; 2), and [BTMA]2MnBr4 (BTMA+= benzyltrimethylammonium; 3), with linear and nonlinear optical properties via benzyl or ethyl/methyl substitution strategies. They feature 0D structures containing isolated [MnBr4]2- anions and quaternary ammonium cations with different sizes inserted for charge balance. They all show green phosphorescence, and 2 possesses good luminescence efficiency with a quantum yield of 97.8%, which is larger than those of 1 (79%) and 3 (72%). Specifically, acentric 1 and 3 present effective SHG responses about 0.48 and 0.59 times that of KDP, respectively. The result throws light on the new properties of the hybrid manganese halides and provides a new way to develop novel nonlinear optical-active organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides.

Abstract
Low-dimensional organic-inorganic metal halides, especially lead-free perovskites, are attracting increasing attention because of their environmentally friendly processing, flexible structures, chemical stability, and promising nonlinear optical properties. Herein, we report a new stable polar 0D lead-free hybrid bismuth chloride to enable the second-harmonic generation (SHG) active material (BTA)3Bi2Cl9 (BTA = benzyltriethylammonium, C6H5CH2N(C2H5)3+) that was obtained by the antisolvent vapor diffusion method and crystallized in the polar Cc space group. Its structure features organic cations surrounded by face-sharing [Bi2Cl9]3- dimers. (BTA)3Bi2Cl9 exhibits a wide direct bandgap (3.21 eV) and a strong phase-matchable SHG conversion efficiency (1.39 × KDP). Theoretical calculation reveals that the SHG response is owing to the synergistic effect of distorted inorganic [Bi2Cl9]3- anions and polar organic BTA+ cations. This work not only enriches the family of organic-inorganic A3M2X9 (A = monovalent cations; M = trivalent metal ions; and X = halide ions) NLO crystals but also provides the possibilities for further designing novel lead-free semiconducting piezoelectric, pyroelectric and ferroelectric materials.

Abstract
Oxyhalides possessing the merits of oxides and halides have widely received attention for their comprehensive physical performances, especially as potential nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals. Here, based on conventional strategy for obtaining acentric compounds, a Te4+ lone-pair cation was introduced into oxyhalides, and one oxyfluoride, HgTeO2F(OH), was obtained via a hydrothermal reaction. Crystallized in the polar space group Pca21, the layered structure of HgTeO2F(OH) is composed of V-shaped [HgO2]2- groups and [TeO2F(OH)]2- pyramids, in which the [TeO2F(OH)]2- pyramid first served as the NLO functional motif. Its powder sample exhibits a phase-matchable SHG response of 1.1 × KH2PO4 at 1064 nm, and its birefringence (0.09@1064 nm) is sufficient for phase-matchable behavior, which manifests its comprehensive capacity as a promising NLO candidate. Theoretical calculations about electronic structure and optical properties are also carried out, revealing that the Te4+ lone-pair cation makes the predominant contribution to the SHG effect and synergizes with the [HgO2]2- groups.

Abstract
Large second-harmonic-generation (SHG) response and enhanced laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) compared with benchmark AgGaS2 (AGS), together with a simple chemical composition and exclusion of the light-sensitive Ag element, are vital for exploration of superior IR nonlinear-optical (NLO) materials beyond AGS. Herein, we report trigonal HgS as a highly promising IR NLO material. It was obtained by a facile one-pot hydrothermal reaction, and its noncentrosymmetric P3221 structure features a unique dumbbell-shaped HgS2 group and a neutral helical {[HgS]}n chain, which first served as a SHG functional motif. Its polycrystalline powder sample exhibits a phase-matchable SHG response comparable to that of AGS and a LIDT value of 1.2 × AGS. Structural analysis and theoretical calculation suggest that the {[HgS]}n chain plays an important role for excellent NLO performance. This work not only provides a strong candidate for IR NLO application but also introduces a new SHG functional motif for the design of future NLO materials.
