Abstract
2-Substituted benzo- and naphthothiazoles have been conveniently prepared from the intramolecular cyclization of phenylthioureas and activated thiobenzanilides or the coupling of isothiocyanates with amines under mild conditions using N-bromosuccinimide/tetrabutylammonium bromide in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) under ambient conditions. The reactions produce moderate to excellent yields with good functional group tolerance and avoid the use of harsh thermal conditions, corrosive reagents, halogenated solvents, toxic metal salts, and expensive metal catalysts, and are amenable to preparations on a gram-scale.

Abstract
Heteroaryl sulfoxides are an integral part of several bioactive molecules and pharmaceuticals. We have described a transition-metal-free route for the direct sulfinylation of 2-halobenzothiazoles and 2-halobenzimidazoles using β-sulfinyl esters as the source of the sulfenate ion in the presence of a Brønsted base such as LiOtBu, and the corresponding heteroaryl sulfoxides were isolated in yields of 30 to 94%. Moreover, we hypothesized a plausible concerted nucleophilic aromatic substitution (cSNAr) pathway for the direct incorporation of sulfinyl functionality into the 2-haloheteroarenes.

Abstract
An ionic cascade insertion/cyclization reaction of thia-/selena-functionalized arylisocyanides has been successfully developed for the efficient and practical synthesis of 2-halobenzothiazole/benzoselenazole derivatives. This synthetic protocol, incorporating a halogen atom when forming the five-membered ring of benzothia/selenazoles, is different from the existing ones, where halogenation of the preformed benzothia/selenazole precursors happens. Additionally, a facile access to 2-aminobenzothiazoles is also achieved by the one-pot cascade reaction of 2-isocyanoaryl thioethers, iodine, and amines.

Metal-Free Synthesis of Heteroaryl Amines or Their Hydrochlorides via an External-Base-Free and Solvent-Free C-N Coupling Protocol. J Org Chem 2021; 86:14627-14639. Abstract
Herein, a metal-free and solvent-free protocol was developed for the C-N coupling of heteroaryl halides and amines, which afforded numerous heteroaryl amines or their hydrochlorides without any external base. Further investigations elucidated that the basicity of amines and specific interactions derived from the X-ray crystallography analysis of 3j'·HCl played pivotal roles in the reactions. Moreover, this protocol was scalable to gram scales and applicable to drug molecules, which demonstrated its practical value for further applications.
