Regioselective Synthesis of Naphthothiophenes by Pd Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions and Alkyne-Carbonyl Metathesis

Transition metal-catalyzed transformations of 2-formylarylboronic acids

2-Formylarylboronic acids are easily available precursors in organic chemistry. Different types of transition metal catalysts, such as Pd(0), Pd(II), Rh(I), Ir(I), Ni(II), Cu(I), Cu(II), and Co(II), can efficiently catalyze coupling reactions of 2-formylarylboronic acids with other organic reactants. In this review, we describe the synthesis of a diverse range of carbocyclic and heterocyclic compounds, as well as acyclic compounds, via transition metal-catalyzed reactions of 2-formylarylboronic acids over the past two decades.

Ru- and Co-Catalyzed Intermolecular Carbonyl-Alkyne Metathesis Reactions of 1H-Indene-1,2,3-triones with Internal Alkynes

The catalyst-dependent intermolecular carbonyl-alkyne metathesis (CAM) reaction of 1H-indene-1,2,3-triones with internal alkynes was realized using Ru and Co catalysts. 2-(2-Oxo-1,2-diphenylethylidene)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione derivatives were obtained using a Ru catalyst, whereas S-alkyl 2-(1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-2H-inden-2-ylidene)-2-phenylethanethioates were prepared using a Co catalyst. These transformations led to the synthesis of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds with a broad substrate scope, excellent regiocontrol, and gram-scale amenability. This catalytic strategy using a Co or Ru catalyst has rarely been described for other established CAM catalysts.

Reaction of 1-acetonaphthones with anilines and elemental sulfur: rapid construction of 1-anilinonaphtho[2,1-b]thiophenes

1-Anilinonaphtho[2,1-b]thiophenes could be conveniently synthesized from a three-component reaction of 1-acetonaphthones with anilines and elemental sulfur under catalyst-free simple heating conditions.
