Abstract
A mild and effective visible-light-induced decarboxylative radical cascade reaction of olefin-containing imidazoles with α-fluorinated carboxylic acids as building blocks containing CF or ArCF2 moieties, has been developed to afford a series of monofluoromethylated or aryldifluoromethylated polycyclic imidazoles in medium to excellent yields with features of simple operation, available raw materials, and wide substrate scopes. In addition, the mechanistic experiments indicated that the methodology involved a radical pathway.

Abstract
The application of visible light as an energy source provides a new avenue in organic transformation due to its mildness, efficiency and selectivity. In fact, recent years have witnessed remarkable advances in photoinduced decarboxylative coupling reactions involving carboxylic acids and their derivatives. Under appropriate photoredox conditions they undergo single electron transfer (SET), resulting in reactive radicals which can assemble with suitable reaction partners. Many types of carboxylic acid derivatives, such as amino acids, N-hydroxy phthalimide (NHPI) esters, α-keto acids, aliphatic/aromatic carboxylic acids, and [bis(difluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene, can couple with a wide variety of substrates to build structurally complex molecules. The present review summarizes the last five years of progress (2020-2024) in the decarboxylative cyclization of carboxylic acids for constructing carbo-/heterocycles under visible-light irradiation. Annulation could be attained via organophotocatalysis (4CzIPN, g-C3N4, Eosin Y, methylene blue, etc.), metallaphotocatalysis or photocatalyst-free approaches. With an emphasis on the mechanistic rationales and scope of the reactions, this review focuses on recent trends in this emerging area.

Abstract
Given the prevalence of pyridine motifs in FDA-approved drugs, selective fluoroalkylation of pyridines and quinolines is essential for preparing diverse bioisosteres. However, challenges are often faced with conventional Minisci reactions in achieving precise regioselectivity owing to competing reaction sites of pyridine and the limited availability of fluoroalkyl radical sources. Herein, we present a light-driven, C4-selective fluoroalkylation of azines utilizing N-aminopyridinium salts and readily available sulfinates. Our approach employs electron donor-acceptor complexes, achieving highly C4-selective fluoroalkylation under mild conditions without an external photocatalyst. This practical method not only enables the installation of CF2H groups but also allows for the incorporation of CF2-alkyl groups with diverse functional entities, surpassing the limitations of previous methods. The versatility of the radical pathway is further demonstrated through straightforward three-component reactions involving alkenes and [1.1.1]propellane. Detailed experimental and computational studies have elucidated the origins of regioselectivity, providing profound insights into the mechanistic aspects.

Abstract
Dearomatization approaches are attractive for their abilities to transform simple, planar arenes into complex, three-dimensional architectures. In particular, visible-light driven dearomatization strategies are significant because of their mild, green, and sustainable nature, enabling the fabrication of new chemical bonds via an electron transfer or energy transfer process. Indole compounds, being potentially bioactive and readily accessible, can be employed efficiently as building blocks for constructing diverse annulated frameworks under photocatalysis. Highly stereoselective radical cascade reactions of appropriate indole systems can provide complex cyclic scaffolds bearing multiple stereocenters. In fact, the past few years have witnessed the renaissance of dearomative cycloadditions of indoles via visible-light-induced photocatalysis. The present review highlights recent advances (2019-mid 2024) in visible-light-driven dearomative annulation of indoles leading to formation of polycyclic indolines, including angularly fused and spiro indolines. Most of the reactions described in this review are simple, providing quick access to the desired products. Additionally, characteristic reaction mechanisms are offered to provide an understand of how indole scaffolds show distinctive reactivity under photocatalytic conditions.

Abstract
An H2O/heating or [bis(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene promoted radical cascade nitro/azide cyclization of 1-acryloyl-2-cyanoindoles with tert-butyl nitrite/azidotrimethylsilane was accomplished, which offered a series of nitro/azide-featuring pyrrolo[1,2-a]indolediones in good yields. Meanwhile, some scale-up experiments and substituent transformations were performed to test the synthetic value. In addition, the corresponding radical intermediates were successfully detected by HRMS to support the possible reaction pathway.

Abstract
A visible-light-induced K2S2O8-promoted cascade sulfonation/cyclization reaction was established using 3-(2-(ethynyl)phenyl)quinazolinones as efficient substrates under mild conditions. A series of sulfonated quinolino[2,1-b]quinazolinones were successfully synthesized under transition-metal- and photocatalyst-free conditions. Notably, this strategy has the advantages of room temperature and simple operation, easy scale-up, and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract
An efficient and mild protocol for the visible light-induced radical cascade difluoromethylation/cyclization of imidazoles with unactivated alkenes using easily accessible and bench-stable difluoromethyltriphenylphosphonium bromide as the precursor of the -CF2H group has been developed to afford CF2H-substituted polycyclic imidazoles in moderate to good yields. This strategy, along with the construction of Csp3-CF2H/C-C bonds, is distinguished by mild conditions, no requirement of additives, simple operation, and wide substrate scope. In addition, the mechanistic experiments have indicated that the difluoromethyl radical pathway is essential for the methodology.

Abstract
A photochemical approach toward RCOCF2-substituted pyrrolo[1,2-a]indolediones was developed by the radical cascade difluoroalkylation/cyclization reaction of unactivated 1-acryloyl-2-cyanoindoles with ethyl iododifluoroacetate or iododifluoramides under visible-light irradiation. This transition-metal- and photosensitizer-free protocol afforded diverse difluoroalkylated pyrrolo[1,2-a]indolediones in moderate to good yields under mild reaction conditions. Most appealingly, the reaction can proceed smoothly under sunlight irradiation, which opens a new avenue toward difluoroalkylated pyrrolo[1,2-a]indolediones.
