Abstract
Alkylpyrazines are important heterocyclic compounds used as flavorants in food and beverage industries. In this study, a regioselective semibiocatalytic process was developed to synthesize 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethylpyrazine (235-EDMP) over its 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethyl pyrazine (325-EDMP) isomer and vice versa. We initially explored how sterics could direct the coupling orientations between diamines and diketones to access 235- or 325-EDMP selectively. Also, the physical parameters of the reaction conditions were changed, such as reduced temperature, the order-of-addition of the reactants, and supplementation with chiral zeolites to template the orientation of the coupling partners to direct the reaction regiochemistry. Each reaction trial resulted in 50:50 mixtures of the EDMP isomers. An alternative approach was explored to control the regioselectivity of the reactions; α-hydroxy ketones replaced the diketones as the electrophilic coupling reactant used in previous trial experiments. The hydroxy ketone reactants were made biocatalytically with pyruvate decarboxylase. The coupling reaction between 2-hydroxypentan-3-one and propane-1,2-diamine resulted in the desired 235-EDMP at >70% (∼77 mg) relative to 325-EDMP in the mixture. The 3-hydroxypentan-2-one congener was biocatalyzed and reacted with propane-1,2-diamine as a proof of principle to synthesize 325-EDMP (∼60% relative abundance, ∼73 mg) over 235-EDMP. These results suggested a mechanism that was directed by the hydroxy ketone electrophilicity and the sterics at the diamine nucleophilic centers.

Abstract
Heterocycles have been found to be of much importance as several nitrogen- and oxygen-containing heterocycle compounds exist amongst the various USFDA-approved drugs. Because of the advancement of nanotechnology, nanocatalysis has found abundant applications in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Numerous nanoparticles (NPs) have been utilized for several organic transformations, which led us to make dedicated efforts for the complete coverage of applications of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) in the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds reported from 2010 to 2019. Our emphasize during the coverage of catalyzed reactions of the various MNPs such as Ag, Au, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Si, Ti, and Zn has not only been on nanoparticles catalyzed synthetic transformations for the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds, but also provide an inherent framework for the reader to select a suitable catalytic system of interest for the synthesis of desired heterocyclic scaffold.

Abstract
Among transition metals, ruthenium being an in-demand element along with its complexes with multidimensional applications in biology, catalysis (especially photocatalysis), and several other aspects of industrial materials, is lacking regards for the potential aspect of its nanoparticles. In the modern synthetic scenario, green synthesis of novel ruthenium nanoparticles for the development of novel materials with potential applications has become a focus. Ru-containing nanomaterials (Ru-cNMs) combined with metals like platinum and palladium or with non-metals like phosphorus and oxygen have shown applications as an anticancer, antimicrobial, and antioxidant agents along with wide-ranging catalytic applications. Reduction of Ru salts using biomaterials including plants etc. has emerged enabling the synthesis of Ru-cNMs. In this context, authors realize that poor availability of literature in this area of research seems to be one of the major handicaps that perhaps could be limiting its attractiveness to researchers. Therefore, it was thought worthwhile to present a review article to encourage, guide, and facilitate scientific researches in green ruthenium nanochemistry embodying synthesis, characterization and biological as well as catalytic applications.

Abstract
A novel ICl/AgNO3 co-catalyzed radical oxidation of diaryl- and alkylarylalkynes into 1,2-diketones is reported. The reaction proceeded smoothly under mild conditions and generated 1,2-diketones in moderate to good yields with a good tolerance of functional groups. Furthermore, the obtained C4-(1,2-diketoaryl)isoxazoles could react smoothly with 1,2-diaminobenzene to form C4-(3-arylquinoxalin-2-yl)isoxazoles. At last, a new one-pot strategy for the synthesis of quinoxalines from 1,2-diphenylethynes and 1,2-diaminobenzene is also reported.
