Abstract
Sphingoid bases are important bioactive lipids found in a variety of organisms, serving as the backbone of sphingolipids, which regulate essential physiological processes. Here we describe the total synthesis and structure revision of halisphingosine A, a sphingoid base initially isolated from marine sponges. To address inconsistencies in the NMR interpretation of this natural product, we developed a synthetic route involving a late-stage enantioselective Henry reaction that allows access to multiple stereoisomers of the proposed halisphingosine A core structure. Our library of 32 fully characterized synthetic stereoisomers enabled us to rectify the structure of halisphingosine A as (2R,3R,8R,Z)-2-aminooctadec-9-ene-1,3,8-triol, and to pursue further structure-activity relation (SAR) studies regarding their antimicrobial and cytotoxic potential. In summary, our study offers a yet unreported compound library along with validated analytical datasets of marine sphingoid base derivatives, which significantly affects future ecometabolomic marine research and will facilitate the identification of inhibitors of sphingolipid metabolism or antagonists of sphingolipid base-sensing receptors.

Abstract
Substituted polyhydroquinolines are ubiquitous skeletal cores found in drugs and bioactive natural products. As a new route to access this motif, we successfully developed a one-pot cyclization cascade with high chemocontrol and diastereoselectivity. The sequence generates two cycles, three carbon-carbon bonds, and an all-carbon quaternary center in a highly convergent process. Functionalized polyhydroquinolines and congeners can be accessed from commercially available amino acids. This versatile and robust strategy was applied to the synthesis of (±)-Δ7-mesembrenone.

Abstract
Utilization of CO2 for the production of fine chemicals has become a research hotspot for a long time. In order to make use of CO2, we developed a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst (denoted as Pd@POPs) for the N-formylation reaction of amine and CO2 under mild conditions. The Pd catalyst was based on a porous organic polymer derived from the solvothermal polymerization of vinyl-functionalized PPh3. A series of characterizations and comparative experiments demonstrated that the Pd@POPs catalyst has high BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) surface areas, hierarchical pore structure, and uniform dispersion of Pd active sites resulting from the formation of strong coordination bonds between Pd species and P atoms in the porous organic polymer (POP) support. In addition to the excellent activity, the Pd@POPs catalyst shows good stability for the N-formylation reaction of amine and CO2.

Abstract
Herein, we report the first asymmetric total synthesis of aspidospermatan indole alkaloid (+)-epi-condyfoline (1) in 15 steps from commercially available 2-methylindole-3-carboxaldehyde. Key steps include (1) our domino Michael/Mannich annulation method of N-sulfinyl metallodienamines to set three contiguous stereocenters, (2) LiHMDS-mediated cyclization of an ω-tosyloxy N-sulfinamide to prepare the signature indole-fused 2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane framework, and (3) DMTSF-promoted spirocyclization of a dithioacetal intermediate to access the final pyrrolidine ring. Functional group manipulations delivered the targeted alkaloid (+)-epi-condyfoline (1) in 13 steps and 1.25% overall yield from N-sulfinylimine (+)-8.

Abstract
Quinolinium salts, Q+-CH2-CO2Me Br- and Q+-CH2-CONMe2 Br- (where Q = quinoline), were prepared from quinolines. Deprotonation of these salts with triethylamine promoted the reaction of the resulting quinolinium ylides (formally azomethine ylides) with electron-poor alkenes by conjugate addition followed by cyclization or by [3 + 2] dipolar cycloaddition. The pyrroloquinoline products were formed as single regio- and stereoisomers. These could be converted to other derivatives by Suzuki-Miyaura coupling, reduction or oxidation reactions.

Abstract
A cascade or domino sequence of condensation of hydroxylamine and an aldehyde to give an oxime, cyclization to a nitrone, and intramolecular 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition has been successfully employed where there is branching at C-4 as a route to the iboga alkaloids. Cyclization occurs with displacement of chloride as a leaving group and intramolecular cycloaddition occurs with an alkene as a dipolarophile. The reaction gives an azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane product containing a fused isoxazolidine as a single stereoisomer and this was converted to an isoquinuclidine that completed a formal synthesis of the alkaloid (±)-19-hydroxyibogamine.
