Abstract
A four-component synthesis of tetrasubstituted pyrroles was developed under metal-free conditions. The pyrrole ring was formed in one pot through [2 + 1 + 1 + 1] condensation using ammonium salt as the nitrogen source. In this strategy, 1,4-naphthoquinones and maleimides were used as the versatile C2 fragments to provide substituted benzo[f]isoindole-4,9-diones and pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,3-diones, respectively. This work is highlighted by using ammonium salt as the nitrogen source, readily available starting materials and multibond formation (two C-C and two C-N bonds) in a single operation.

Abstract
A versatile synthesis of α-amino bisphosphonates has been achieved through one-pot interrupted Ritter-type reaction under mild conditions. The reactive Ritter intermediate nitrilium is in situ generated by treatment of nitrile with readily accessible Tf2O/HC(OR1)3, which is trapped by phosphite ester to deliver the desired product. This protocol is efficient, scalable, and well compatible with a broad scope of substrates. In addition, plentiful characteristic JP-C couplings including unusual five-bond long-range 5JP-C and 3JP-C across quaternary carbon and hetero (N) atoms were observed in 13C NMR spectra.

Abstract
An efficient tandem route to obtain tetrasubstituted NH pyrroles in a one-pot manner has been developed, staring from simple nitriles, ethyl bromoacetates, and zinc. This reaction involves oxidative dimerization of the zinc bromide complex of β-enaminoesters using cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN) as an oxidant, affording 2,3,4,5-tetrasubstituted pyrroles in yields up to 91%.

Abstract
The MeOTf/KI-catalyzed synthesis of 2-arylnaphthalene derivatives from aryl ethylene oxides in alcohol under ambient conditions is described. The present protocol has a higher atom efficiency and wider substrate applicability with excellent yields. The reaction proceeded using the aryl ethylene oxides to give 2-arylnaphthalenes either in homo-coupling or in cross-coupling. The reaction could also be carried out at the gram scale in minutes.

Abstract
A base-promoted three-component cascade reaction of α-hydroxy ketones, malonodinitrile, and alcohols has been developed, providing a direct and efficient route to a range of structurally diverse and synthetically useful 2-alkyloxy-1H-pyrrole-3-carbonitrile derivatives. The reaction involved three different bond (C-C, C-O, and C-N) formations in a single step, and its regioselectivity was depended on the structure of the α-hydroxy ketones employed. The use of easily available starting materials, wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, operational simplicity, and high atom economy are attractive features of the new method.

Abstract
This review article features selected examples on the synthesis of functionalized pyrroles that were reported between 2014 and 2019. Pyrrole is an important nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle that can be found in numerous compounds of biological and material significance. Given its vast importance, pyrrole continues to be an attractive target for the development of new synthetic reactions. The contents of this article are organized by the starting materials, which can be broadly classified into four different types: substrates bearing π-systems, substrates bearing carbonyl and other polar groups, and substrates bearing heterocyclic motifs. Brief discussions on plausible reaction mechanisms for most transformations are also presented.

Abstract
A new method for the Bischler-Napieralski-type synthesis of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolines was developed by a Tf2O-promoted tandem annulation from phenylethanols and nitriles. Its success was mainly due to the fact that a phenonium ion was formed in the process and practically functioned as a stable and reactive primary phenylethyl carbocation.

Abstract
The development of metal-free organic reactions is one of the hotspots in the synthesis of cyclic compounds. ROTf (alkyl trifluoromethanesulfonates), due to their good electrophilicity, are powerful alkylating reagents at heteroatoms such as nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur and phosphorus to induce an electrophilic centre for carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bond formation. Inspired by this chemistry, a variety of research concentrating on heterocycles synthesis has been carried out. In this review, we mainly summarize the ROTf-induced annulation of heteroatom reagents such as nitriles, carbodiimides, azobenzenes, isothiocyanates, aldehydes, isocyanates and phosphaalkene with themselves or alkynes to afford cyclic compounds.
