Abstract
The fracture mechanism and mechanical response of Ni/graphene nanocomposites under nanoindentation are investigated by molecular dynamics simulations. We analyze the effect of the overlapping area on the microstructural transition, HCP atomic fraction, dislocation density, load-displacement relationship, and stress distribution. It was found that the maximum indentation depth of embedded graphene has a nonlinear dependence relation with the overlapping area, and it becomes smaller at the overlapping width comparable to the indenter diameter. The graphene layer is able to hinder the expansion of the dislocation into the interior of the Ni matrix in the initial stage. The densities of HCP atoms and dislocations in the composite gradually increase with increasing indentation depth. The stress concentration tends to cause nucleation of dislocations below the indentation surface. When the graphene is ruptured, the elastic recovery to some extent occurs in the deformed substrate. This work sheds light on modifying the mechanical properties of metal/graphene composites by tuning the overlapping boundary of graphene.

Abstract
Green corrosion inhibitors have been widely used as sustainable replacements for synthetic organic inhibitors. The application of adiantum capillus-veneris (ACV) extract to mitigate mild steel corrosion in a hydrochloric acid solution was the main focus of this investigation. Corrosion inhibition was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization techniques. EIS curves were modeled using a shallow neural network. Subsequently, a multiobjective genetic algorithm was employed to identify the optimal combination of concentration and time, represented by a Pareto front. EIS revealed an inhibitory efficacy of 88% at the optimal concentration of 800 ppm. Polarization results showed that ACV acted as a mixed inhibitor, and at 800 ppm, the corrosion current density decreased from 105 to 44 μA/cm2. Surface analytical techniques confirmed the corrosion-inhibitory effect of ACV. Results indicated that the sample selected from the lower lobe of the Pareto front, dominated by impedance magnitude, outperformed other tested samples. Furthermore, the machine learning-based corrosion prediction model demonstrated a high accuracy. This work highlighted the viability of machine learning in assessing corrosion resistance and improved the generalization capacity of optimizing corrosion inhibitors.

Abstract
Many sectors have employed various strategies to prolong the life of steel because of its strength and high manufacturing and installation costs. The use of organic inhibitors has been widespread in recent years. The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the activity of recently synthesized derivatives, namely (Z)-5-benzylidenethiazolidine-2,4-dione (FT-2a), (Z)-5-(2,4-dichlorobenzylidene)thiazolidine-2,4-dione (FT-2c), and (Z)-3-allyl-5-(2,4-dichlorobenzylidene)thiazolidine-2,4-dione (FT-3c), in inhibiting corrosion through electrochemical assays on carbon steel (CS) in 1 M HCl at 303 K. The chosen products (FT-2a, FT-2c, and FT-3c) were selected as corrosion inhibitors due to their eco-friendly composition and biodegradability, aligning with the increasing demand for sustainable products. The findings revealed that the inhibitory activities of FT-2a, FT-2c, and FT-3c improved with increasing concentration, reaching maximum values of 94.10%, 95.30%, and 96.50% for FT-2a, FT-2c, and FT-3c, respectively. In contrast, the corrosion mitigation effectiveness decreased by around 22.69% (for FT-2a), 18.87% (for FT-2c), and 17.81% (for FT-3c) with the rise in temperature from 303 to 333 K. An overview of potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) plots revealed that the three products function as mixed-type inhibitors and adsorb according to the Langmuir isotherm in the corrosive 1 M HCl solution. Surface analysis [scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX), contact angle (CA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD)] of the CS specimens demonstrated that the chosen inhibitors were absorbed and formed protective layers that mitigated the impact of corrosion. Strong interactions between FT-2a, FT-2c, and FT-3c molecules and Fe ions at particular atomic sites were identified by analysis of UV-visible spectra. Using techniques such as Fukui functions, molecular dynamics simulations (MDS), and DFT calculations, the impact of the molecular structure of FT-2a, FT-2c, and FT-3c on their capacity to suppress corrosion was investigated. In addition, the protonation of thiazolidine derivatives in acidic media was studied. The results of these various methods were very coherent.

Abstract
Great aqueous dispersibility, a large specific surface area, and high impermeability make graphene oxide (GO) the ideal candidate for a high-performance corrosion inhibitor. Numerous symmetrical modification methods have been reported to enhance the adsorption of GO on metal surfaces in various corrosive media. This work aims to investigate the enhancement and mechanism of unilateral hydrophobic modification on the corrosion inhibition performance of GO. In this study, amphiphilic Janus GO (JGO) was prepared by grafting hydrophobic alkyl chains on one side of GO, and its anticorrosion performance was evaluated via weight loss experiments and electrochemical tests. The results revealed that the corrosion inhibition efficiency for Q235 mild steel (MS) in a 1 M HCl aqueous solution of 25 ppm JGO (81.08%) was much higher than that of GO at the same concentration (22.12%). Furthermore, the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and computational study demonstrated that the synergistic effect of physical adsorption and chemical adsorption promoted the hydrophilic side of JGO close to the surface of the metal, and the dense protective layer was formed by the hydrophobic chains toward the corrosive medium, which effectively hindered the corrosion of MS by the acidic liquid. This study emphasizes the significant role of asymmetrically modified hydrophobic alkyl chains in improving the corrosion prevention performance of GO and provides a perspective for the structural design of GO-based corrosion inhibitors.

Abstract
In this study, five kinds of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([CXami]Br) ionic liquids with different alkyl chain lengths (8, 10, 12, 14, and 16) were selected as inhibitors. Then, their corrosion inhibition performances for Q235 steel in 1.0 mol L-1 HCl solution were investigated via a weight loss test, polarization curve method, and surface analysis techniques. The results show that these five imidazolium-based ionic liquids are all mixed-type inhibitors, and they can be spontaneously adsorbed onto the Q235 steel surface. The adsorption process follows the Langmuir model and involves mixed physical-chemical adsorption. Theoretical calculations confirm that the increase in alkyl chain length is conducive to the imidazolium-based ionic liquids exhibiting stronger chemical bonding abilities and forming denser adsorption films. The inhibition efficiency significantly increases below the critical micelle concentration (CMC) with an increase in alkyl chain length, and the highest inhibition efficiency is 95.17% for the [C16ami]Br inhibitor at the concentration of 0.005 mM. However, above the CMC, the inhibition efficiency is minimally affected by the alkyl chain length since all ionic liquid inhibitors have reached adsorption saturation on the steel surface.

Abstract
Canavalia gladiata leaf extract (CGLE) is extracted from crop waste employing a water decoction method. By employing electrochemical techniques, morphology analysis, quantum chemical calculations, and other methods, we extensively investigated the anticorrosion efficacy of CGLE on copper within a H2SO4 solution. The outcomes reveal that at 298 K, a CGLE concentration of 800 mg/L attains a remarkable inhibition efficiency (IE) of 96.8%. Additionally, we examined the impact of CGLE on the corrosion resistance of copper at varying temperatures. Even with rising temperatures, CGLE manages to sustain an IE of over 95%. This indicates that CGLE is mainly chemisorption based on the copper, leading to a strong adsorption. The surface test results show a noteworthy decrease in the extent of copper surface corrosion upon the introduction of CGLE. The study of the adsorption model demonstrates the alignment of CGLE adsorption onto the copper with the Langmuir adsorption.

Abstract
In this paper, Solanum lyratum leaves were prepared into a corrosion inhibitor by a pure water extraction method. As a natural plant, S. lyratum leaf extract as a corrosion inhibitor has green features. S. lyratum leaf extract (SLLE) can effectively inhibit the corrosion of Cu in H2SO4 solution. The protective effect on copper in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 solution was studied by electrochemical measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and theoretical calculation. These results showed that the maximum corrosion inhibition efficiency (η) of SLLE for copper obtained in the electrochemical measurement at different temperatures is more than 90%. The adsorption of SLLE on copper surfaces conforms to the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model. FTIR and XPS showed the bonding information. SEM and AFM proved that the SLLE can protect the copper from corrosion media. The interaction and inhibition mechanism between the SLLE and copper surface was further revealed at the molecular level by theoretical calculation.

Abstract
Twelve kinds of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives were synthesized and characterized. The weight loss method was used to evaluate their inhibition efficiencies (IEs) in a 1.0 M HCl solution at 333 K. The results showed that the alkyl chain length, heteroatoms (S, N, and O), and number of benzene rings significantly affect the IE. Herein, the IE of 5-[(dodecylthio)methyl]-8-quinolinol reached 98.71%. Meanwhile, the potentiodynamic polarization results indicated that all 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives were mixed-type inhibitors. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results revealed that 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives can increase polarization resistance, supporting their adsorption on the N80 steel surface. Moreover, according to density functional theory (DFT), the frontier orbital distribution and quantum chemical parameters (EHOMO, ELUMO, dipole moment μ, etc.) were calculated, and the results confirmed that the substituents of protonated 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives significantly influenced the frontier orbital distribution. Molecular dynamics simulation illustrated that all protonated 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives were adsorbed parallel to the Fe(110) surface, and the interaction energy (Eint) evidenced that the molecular size would affect their strength of adsorption on the Fe(110) surface. The linear and nonlinear quantitative structure-activity relationship models were established by linear regression (LR) methods and BP neural networks (NN), respectively. The LR model was established by using Eint and μ, and the coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.934. In addition, the nonlinear NN model was obtained according to IE and all parameters (DFT parameters and Eint). Then, the two calculation inhibition efficiencies (IEcal) were obtained from the LR and NN models, and the R2 values of the linear correlation between the IEcal and the experimental IE were 0.940 and 0.951, respectively. In addition, the IE of the tested inhibitor was 51.86% and the IEcal values predicted by the LR and NN models were 52.68% and 53.06%, respectively. Our results demonstrate that both the LR and NN models have good fits and predictive ability.

Abstract
The acid treatment process of production wells is one of the most acid-induced corrosive processes. Corrosion inhibitors are an effective tool to inhibit the acids employed in acidizing treatments. Herein, new eco-friendly hydrazone-based compounds, namely, 2-(4-isobutylphenyl)-N-((1E,2E)-3-phenylallylidene) propanehydrazide (IPP) and N'-cyclohexylidene-2-[4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl] propanehydrazide (CIP), were prepared through the functionalization of ibuprofen (IBF) and applied for corrosion mitigation of N80 steel in 15 wt % HCl (referred to hereafter as blank). The anticorrosion performance of selected compounds was investigated by employing weight loss (WL), potentiodynamic polarization curves (PPCs), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), complemented by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses. In addition, density functional theory-based tight-binding (DFTB) modeling was conducted to get molecular-level insights into inhibitor-metal bonding. Experimental results revealed excellent long-term corrosion inhibition efficiency at very low concentrations of inhibitors and a mixed-type inhibition process. Numerically, N80 steel polarization resistance increased from 5.51 Ω cm2 in blank to 608.4 and 396 Ω cm2 in blank inhibited with 5 × 10-3 mol/L of IPP and CIP, respectively, equivalent to 99% and 98% inhibition efficiency based on EIS experiments. Besides, SEM and AFM images showed that, after addition to 15 wt % HCl, inhibitors could effectively prevent the acid attack on the N80 steel surface. The fitting of experimental data to adsorption isotherms indicated that inhibitors' adsorption followed the Langmuir isotherm model and mixed physicochemical adsorption on the metal surface. The DFTB simulation revealed that inhibitor molecules can create covalent and physical interactions with iron atoms, which is further confirmed by partial density of states (PDOSs) analysis.
