Abstract
A convenient and versatile approach to important 1-azaspirocyclic systems relevant to medicinal chemistry and natural products is reported herein. The main strategy relies on a reductive decarboxylative cyclization of redox-active esters which can be rapidly assembled from abundant cyclic azaacids and tailored acceptor sidechains, with a focus on alkyne acceptors enabling the generation of useful exo-alkene moieties. Diastereoconvergent variants were studied and could be achieved either through remote stereocontrol or conformational restriction in bicyclic carbamate substrates. Two sets of metal-free photocatalytic conditions employing inexpensive eosin Y were disclosed and studied experimentally to highlight key mechanistic divergences.

Abstract
Collective asymmetric total synthesis of marine tricyclic alkaloids, cylindricines A-H, and the proposed structures of cylindricines I and J was achieved in a concise manner from a single common spirocyclic pyrrolidine intermediate. A tandem chemoselective oxidation/intramolecular aza-Michael addition/epimerization was exploited to complete the tricyclic skeleton. This work provides a versatile synthetic entry to the cylindricine family of marine tricyclic alkaloids.

Abstract
A Au-catalyzed tandem alkyne hydroamination/iminium ion formation/allylation reaction was developed for expedient access to pyrrolidine derivatives bearing a tetrasubstituted carbon stereocenter. The tandem reaction was successfully applied to a 12-step asymmetric synthesis of (-)-lepadiformine A, a marine cytotoxic tricyclic alkaloid.

Abstract
A novel photochemical method for the construction of previously unknown substituted 4a,7a-dihydroxy-5-methyl-3,4,4a,7a-tetrahydro-1H-cyclopenta[b]pyridine-2,7-diones based on readily available allomaltol derivatives containing an amide group was established. The proposed approach includes the photoinduced contraction of an allomaltol ring and the subsequent intramolecular cyclization of an unstable α-hydroxy-1,2-diketone intermediate. For the first time we have shown the use of a side chain amide function as a trapping element for the final cyclization of photogenerated α-hydroxy-1,2-diketones. The structures of two synthesized photoproducts were determined by X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
We report an efficient iron-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling [4 + 2] annulation of secondary/tertiary anilines with quinazolinones to generate quinoline-spiroquinzolinones. The reaction proceeds smoothly with a relatively broad variety of functional groups, a cheap transition metal catalyst (FeCl3), and environmentally friendly oxidant (H2O2/O2) under mild reaction conditions. Creatively, N-methylanilines are employed for the first time for the cycloaddition as both methyl and methylene sources attached to the N atom of tetrahydroquinolines.
