Abstract
The reaction of diphosphino aryl complexes [Pd(C6F5)(L-L)(NCMe)](BF4) (L-L = dppe, dppp, dppb) with diazoalkanes N2CHR (R = -CH=CHPh, Ph) leads to η3-allyl or η3-benzyl palladium derivatives that are the organometallic products resulting from carbene-aryl coupling. The experimental trend shows that the reaction is favored for dppe > dppp > dppb. It involves several consecutive steps, i.e., diazoalkane coordination, nitrogen extrusion to give a Pd-carbene, and migratory insertion, which are experimentally inseparable, but they can be studied with the help of DFT calculations. The bulkiness and bite angle of the ligand exert a large influence in the relative rate of the steps involved in the reaction, and we have found that carbene formation by N2 extrusion is the step with the largest barrier for dppe. In contrast, the coordination of the diazoalkane is the most energy-demanding step for the larger dppp and dppb diphosphines. Thus, ligand substitution controls the rate, an important elemental step rarely considered in mechanistic studies of carbene cross coupling reactions. Since diazoalkanes are the most common carbene precursors, either directly or generated from hydrazones, the choice of ligand can be very important to facilitate the entrance of the carbene precursor in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed cascade reaction of α,β-unsaturated N-tosylhydrazones with iodoarene derivatives containing a nucleophilic group has been developed, which provides facile access to 2H-chromenes and 2H-quinolines, respectively. Additionally, the double Pd-carbene migratory insertion/nucleophilic substitution processes for the synthesis of a ternary heterocyclic skeleton were possible in the developed catalytic system.

Abstract
Efficient palladium-catalyzed vinylic C-H alkenylation and allenylation of gem-disubstituted ethylenes with N-tosylhydrazones of aryl alkyl and diaryl ketones were achieved to access trisubstituted 1,3-dienes and tetrasubstituted allenes, respectively. An aryl to vinyl 1,4-palladium migration/carbene insertion/β-hydride elimination sequence proceeded to switch the chemo- and regioselectivities to give structurally diverse products. Use of 2-FC6H4OH additive enables enhancement of the reaction efficiency through accelerating the key 1,4-palladium migration process.

Abstract
A divergent reaction of isocyanides with o-bromobenzaldehydes for the synthesis of isoindolinone-derived ketenimines and lactams was disclosed. The reaction features readily available reactants, relatively mild conditions, and high yields of products. Ketenimines could be applied in further transformations for access to other functional molecules. A mechanism study showed that the palladium-migration/imine-insertion process was the key step in this reaction.

Abstract
Transition-metal catalyzed multi-component reactions have captured the attention of researchers in organic synthesis and drug synthesis due to their advantages of simple operation, easy availability of raw materials and without separation of intermediates. Among the multi-component reactions, the three-component processes have been developed into effective organic procedures. This personal account reviews our and other group's studies on the development of three-component coupling reaction for the rapid construction of two new chemical bonds simultaneously via benzylpalladium intermediates. Catalyst-switched three-component reactions of benzyl halides, activated olefins, and allyltributylstannane were successfully conducted to produce the corresponding benzylallylation products. Activation and conversion of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide via π-benzylpalladium intermediates provide access to a wide range of unsaturated ketones and esters with excellent functional group tolerance. Meanwhile, other methods to produce benzylpalladium intermediates, including Heck insertion of alkenes into arylpalladium complexes, the oxidative addition of benzyl carbonate to palladium complexes and palladium-carbene migratory insertion, were also highlighted.

Abstract
AbstractTransition-metal-catalyzed direct inert C–H bond functionalization has attracted much attention over the past decades. However, because of the high strain energy of the suspected palladacycle generated via C–H bond palladation, direct functionalization of a C–H bond less than a three-bond distance from a catalyst center is highly challenging. In this short review, we summarize the advances on palladium-catalyzed bridging C–H activation, in which an inert proximal C–H bond palladation is promoted by the elementary step of migratory insertion of an alkene, an alkyne or a metal carbene intermediate.1 Introduction2 Palladium-Catalyzed Alkene Bridging C–H Activation2.1 Intramolecular Reactions2.2 Intermolecular Reactions3 Palladium-Catalyzed Alkyne Bridging C–H Activation3.1 Intermolecular Reactions3.2 Intramolecular Reactions4 Palladium-Catalyzed Carbene Bridging C–H Activation5 Conclusion and Outlook

Abstract
Pyrazole cores are common structural motifs existing in various agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. Herein, a transition metal-free, three-component reaction of arylaldehydes, ethyl acrylate and N-tosylhydrazones is described, which leads to the formation of 1,3,5-trisubstituted and 1,3-disubstituted pyrazoles divergently under slightly different conditions.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed cascade reaction of ortho-vinyl bromobenzenes with N-tosylhydrazones has been developed, which provides a facile approach to 2,2-disubstituted 2H-chromenes. The migration of palladium from the aryl to vinyl position is crucial, as the in situ produced vinyl palladium intermediate could further react with diazo compounds to generate the reactive species for the sequential annulation.
