Abstract
Removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere is an attractive way to mitigate the greenhouse gas effect that contributes to climate change. A series of donor-pi (D-π), acceptor-pi (A-π), and π Re(i) pyridyl imidazole complexes have been synthesized and examined under photocatalytic conditions for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2. The catalytic activity of the complexes was further supported by cyclic voltammetry through the presence of a catalytic current under CO2 atmosphere. The D-π, π, and A-π complexes were studied to elucidate the effects of incorporating conjugated electron donating vs. withdrawing groups on the catalytic rates and product selectivity. The synthesized complexes were compared with Re(bpy)(CO)3Br (where bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine), the benchmark catalyst for this transformation. Remarkably, the complex with A-π pendant (RC4) outperformed the π (RC2-3) and D-π (RC5) complexes for the production of formic acid (HCO2H) in the presence of photosensitizer [Ru(bpy)3]2+ and sacrificial electron donor BIH (1,3-dimethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]-imidazoline). Among the investigated catalysts, RC4 with the A-π pendant showed the highest turnover number (TON) value of 844 for HCO2H production with 86% carbon selectivity. In stark contrast to the imidazole-pyridine based catalysts reported here that favor formic acid as a product, Re(bpy)(CO)3Br generated no formic acid under the same conditions. The imidazole-pyridine complexes also function as catalysts for CO2 reduction without an added photosensitizer, however, the TON values under self-sensitized conditions are poor.

Abstract
A photocatalytic sulfamoylation/5-endo-trig cyclization of (E)-N'-arylidene-N-phenylmethacrylohydrazides with sulfamoyl chlorides was developed. The chemoselective intramolecular addition of the carbon-centered radical intermediate to the CN bond in the hydrazone motif gave the sulfamoylated pyrazolin-5-one. Besides, sulfonyl chlorides are also suitable reaction partners to access sulfonylated pyrazolin-5-ones. This approach is characterized by mild reaction conditions, broad substrates scope, excellent selectivity and the late-stage modification of drug molecules.

Abstract
The site-selective sulfonylation of C(sp2)-H bonds of anilide and quinoline amide derivatives has been developed using organophotocatalysis. This mild and sustainable protocol, which operates at room temperature, precludes the requirement for any metal-based catalyst or photocatalyst and oxidant, which are the challenges associated with existing methodologies. Furthermore, the generation of aryl sulfonyl radicals from commercially available aryl sulfonyl chlorides has been achieved through the use of Rose Bengal as an organophotocatalyst, an approach that was previously unexplored. The detailed mechanistic investigation unveiled the underlying mechanism for site-selective sulfonylation at both the proximal and distal positions, thereby establishing a straightforward approach for building valuable aryl sulfone scaffolds.

Abstract
A new visible-light-mediated non-directed oxidative annulation between 2-arylindazoles and electron-deficient olefins using commercially available piperidine-1-sulfonyl chloride as the radical precursor to afford fused 5,6-dihydroindazolo[2,3-a]quinolines has been developed under mild reaction conditions. This transformation occurs via two consecutive C-H bond functionalizations. The mechanistic investigation results indicate that the reaction progresses through a radical pathway forming a 2-(2-aryl-2H-indazol-3-yl)-3-piperidin-1-ylsulfonyl derivative as an intermediate.

Abstract
The constrained effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) has impeded its widespread use in clinical practice. Urgent efforts are needed to address the shortcomings faced in photodynamic therapy, such as photosensitizer toxicity, short half-life, and limited action range of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, a biodegradable copolymer nanoamplifier is reported that contains ruthenium complex (Ru-complex) as photosensitizer (PS) and rhenium complex (Re-complex) as carbon monoxide (CO)-release molecule (CORM). The well-designed nanoamplifier brings PS and CORM into close spatial proximity, significantly promotes the utilization of light-stimulated reactive oxygen species (ROS), and cascaded amplifying CO release, thus enabling an enhanced synergistic effect of PDT and gas therapy for cancer treatment. Moreover, owing to its intrinsic photodegradable nature, the nanoamplifier exhibits good tumor accumulation and penetration ability, and excellent biocompatibility in vivo. These findings suggest that the biodegradable cascaded nanoamplifiers pave the way for a synergistic and clinically viable integration of photodynamic and gas therapy.

Abstract
Herein, a three-component 1,2-thiosulfonylation of alkenes with thiophenols and sulfonyl chlorides via synergistic photoredox and iron catalysis is described. Compared with previous studies, this protocol avoids tedious pre-synthesis of thiosulfonates and employs more readily accessible sulfonyl chlorides as a sulfonation reagent. Moreover, the reaction exhibits high compatibility with styrenes and unactivated alkenes as well as diverse sulfonyl chlorides, especially sulfamoyl chlorides. Preliminary mechanism investigations reveal that a radical pathway is involved in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract
Herein, we report a photoinduced approach for hydroarylation of unactivated olefins using 4-hydroxycoumarins as the arylating reagent. Key to the success of this reaction is the conversion of nucleophilic 4-hydroxycoumarins into electrophilic carbon radicals via photocatalytic arene oxidation, which not only circumvents the polarity-mismatch issue encountered under ionic conditions but also accommodates a broad substrate scope and inhibits side reactions that were previously observed. Moreover, divergent reactivity was achieved by changing the photocatalyst, enabling a subsequent [2+2] cycloaddition to deliver cyclobutane-fused pentacyclic products that are otherwise challenging to access in high yields and with high diastereoselectivity. Mechanistic studies have elucidated the mechanism of the reactions and the origin of the divergent reactivity.

Abstract
An external photocatalyst-free benzylic C-H functionalization with fluorenones under visible-light irradiation has been achieved. This transformation provides an efficient synthetic approach to 9-benzylated fluorenols in ≤91% yield with 100% atom economy under mild conditions. Spectroscopic studies suggest that a reductive quenching of photoexcited fluorenones with toluene derivatives generates ketyl radicals and benzyl radicals, which undergo a cross-coupling to afford the desired fluorenols.

Abstract
Photoredox-mediated tandem addition-chemoselective cyclization of o-alkenyl aryl ureas is reported for the synthesis of sulfonyl and activated alkyl-decorated dihydroquinazolinones. By a careful choice of o-alkenyl aryl urea starting materials, we achieved chemoselective N-cyclization in the presence of more reactive amidic oxygen. We have demonstrated the scope of the methodology with a variety of sulfonyl chlorides and activated alkyl halides. Finally, large-scale synthesis of sulfonyl-substituted dihydroquinazolinone showcases the synthetic utility of the methodology.

Abstract
A visible-light-initiated radical cascade reaction toward the synthesis of structurally diverse fused Indolo-pyridones is described. The reaction involves the addition of aroyl or sulfonyl radicals to N-alkyl-acryloyl-1H-indole-3-carboxamides, cyclization, and oxidative aromatization. This telescoped method circumvents lengthy prefunctionalization steps of radical precursors, which is further underpinned by the superior compatibility with a series of C-centered radicals, allowing the rapid and facile construction of numerous valuable architectures.

Abstract
A visible-light photoredox-catalyzed sulfonyl lactonization of unsaturated carboxylic acids with sulfonyl chlorides is described. This reaction features good functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope, providing a simple and efficient protocol to access a wide range of sulfonyl lactones in high to excellent yields. Preliminary mechanistic investigations suggested that a free-radical pathway should be involved in the process.

Abstract
The synthesis of a broad variety of hetero- and carbocyclic scaffolds via a Pd-catalyzed domino Heck/SO2 insertion reaction is reported. This reaction utilizes DABSO, a safe and easy-to-handle alternative to SO2 gas. The reaction proceeds through a sulfinate intermediate, which can act as a lynchpin for the in situ generation of sulfones, sulfonamides, and sulfonyl fluorides. Good yields and scalability are demonstrated.
