Abstract
The utilization of high-valent metal catalysts to promote cycloaddition reactions involving π bonds through C-C bond activation remains challenging. Despite extensive research, the cycloaddition of aldehydes with cyclopropenones catalyzed by metal complexes has not been documented. Herein, we disclose a novel Rh(III)-catalyzed cycloaddition reaction between cyclopropenones and aldehydes, enabling the efficient synthesis of highly functionalized furanones. A detailed mechanistic investigation was conducted, revealing the likely involvement of a tripodal Rh-carbene intermediate in the catalytic cycle, which facilitates the product release pathway. This reaction exhibits a broad substrate scope, good functional group compatibility, and high atom economy, thereby offering a versatile and general approach to the construction of furanones.

Abstract
Synthesis of imidazo-fused polyheterocyclic molecular frameworks, viz. imidazo[1,2-a]pyrrolo[3,4-e]pyridines, imidazo[2,1-a]pyrrolo[3,4-c]isoquinolines, and benzo[g]imidazo[1,2-a]quinoline-6,11-diones, has been achieved by the ruthenium(II)-catalyzed [4 + 2] C-H/N-H annulation of 2-alkenyl/2-arylimidazoles with N-substituted maleimides and 1,4-naphthoquinones. The developed protocol is operationally simple, exhibits broad substrate scope with excellent functional group tolerance, and provides the desired products in moderate to good yields. The mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction involves the formation of a C-C bond through Ru-catalyzed C(sp2)-H bond activation followed by intramolecular cyclization.

Abstract
A facile and convenient protocol for the regioselective construction of functionalized 2-hydroxybenzophenones is described. This protocol involves the Sc(OTf)3/BF3·OEt2-catalyzed benzannulation of 2-vinyloxirans with 3-formylchromone, which involves cascade in situ diene formation, [4 + 2] cycloaddition, elimination, and ring-opening strategies. Moreover, it provides an expedited synthetic pathway to access biologically intriguing 1,4-naphthoquinones and anthraquinones including vitamin K3 and tectoquinone. The synthesized compounds also hold potential for use as UV filters and show promise as chemosensors for Cu2+ and Mg2+ ions.

Abstract
In this study, a homogeneous acid-catalyzed reaction of a series of benzaldehydes, benzylamines, and Meldrum's acid was presented, allowing the novel one-pot and multicomponent synthesis of hexahydroquinolines with high stereoselectivity. The current strategy has advantages including high regioselectivity, good efficiency, reasonable diversity, utilization of an inexpensive and safe catalyst, and easy purification of products by simple recrystallization. The current reaction utilizes 2 equiv of Meldrum's acid, 3 equiv of benzaldehyde derivatives, and one equiv of amine derivatives to yield (4'S,5'S,7'S)-1'-benzyl-2,2-dimethyl-4',5',7'-triphenyl-3',4',7',8'-tetrahydro-1'H-spiro[[1,3]dioxane-5,6'-quinoline]-2',4,6(5'H)-trione derivatives.

Abstract
The directing group-assisted regioselective C-H activation of carbazoles and indolines is achieved via transition metal-catalyzed reactions. This C-H functionalization protocol provides a rapid approach to install diversely functionalized succinimide groups at the C-1 position of the carbazole moiety. In addition, this protocol demonstrates the intrinsic reactivity of indolines in providing C-2 succinimide-substituted indoles via cascade direct oxidation and C-H functionalization. This protocol also provides C-7 succinimide-substituted indolines under mild reaction conditions. The features of this reaction include a wide substrate scope and excellent regioselectivity for the installation of the succinimide moiety on biologically interesting molecules.

Abstract
A novel Pd-catalyzed chemo- and regiocontrolled tandem cyclization/cross-coupling reaction of 3-alkynyl chromone with aryl iodide was developed for the synthesis of 4H-furo[3,2-c]chromenes and xanthones. The difunctionalization of alkynes through O-attack/5-exo-dig and C-attack/6-endo-dig cyclization was reported by this rare approach, which was selectively controlled by the addition of KF or a bidentate phosphine ligand. A one-pot tandem process was demonstrated directly from γ-alkynyl-1,3-diketone for this method.

Abstract
A Ru(II)-catalyzed decarbonylative alkylation and annulation of salicylaldehydes and 2-aminobenzaldehydes with iodonium ylides has been developed for the synthesis of dibenzo[b,d]furans and NH-free carbazolones. The reaction proceeds smoothly under mild conditions with a low catalyst loading and a broad substrate compatibility. Notably, hydroxy and free amino groups were demonstrated to be the effective directing groups, enabling the successful aldehyde C-H bond activation and subsequent decarbonylation and annulation under the inexpensive Ru(II) catalyst.

Abstract
Given their omnipresence in natural products and pharmaceuticals, isochromenone congeners are one of the most privileged scaffolds to synthetic chemists. Disclosed herein is a dual (ortho/meta) C-H and C-C activation of phenacyl ammonium salts (acylammonium as traceless directing group) toward annulation with propargylic alcohols to accomplish rapid access for novel isochromenones by means of rhodium catalysis from readily available starting materials. This operationally simple protocol features broad substrate scope and wide functional group tolerance. Importantly, the protocol circumvents the need of any stoichiometric metal oxidants and proceeds under aerobic conditions.

Abstract
Arylation is a common behaviour in organic synthesis for the construction of complex structures, especially the biaryls. Among those reported arylation procedures, transition-metal-catalyzed direct C(sp2)-H arylation has been rapidly developed in recent decades and has become a reliable alternative to traditional cross-coupling procedures using organometallic reagents. Great achievements in rhodium-catalyzed C(sp2)-H arylation have been witnessed during the last decade. Aryl halides, simple arenes, aryl boronic acids, arylsilanes, aryl aldehyde, aryl carboxylic acid, diazides, etc. were successfully utilized as arylating reagents under rhodium-catalyzed conditions. In this review, recent achievements in rhodium-catalyzed arylations through C(sp2)-H bond activation were summarized together with the mechanism discussions.

Abstract
Cp*Co(iii)-catalyzed [4+1] annulation of sulfoxonium ylides with anthranils has been developed for the synthesis of indole-indolone scaffolds. The dual functionality of anthranils was exploited, wherein the nitrogen has been used for C-H amination and the aldehyde group was utilized in the subsequent intramolecular aldol condensation to furnish the corresponding annulated products.
