Abstract
Dihydronaphthalenes play a crucial role in bioactive natural products and new drug discovery, and efficient and economic strategies to build them are needed. Herein, we disclose a highly efficient method to prepare dihydronaphthalenes via a cerium-catalyzed cycloaddition of 1H-isochromenes with cinnamic acids. This newly developed method not only features a broad and low-cost substrate scope and mild conditions but also exhibits very high functional group tolerance, including hydroxyl, borate ester and ester group substituents. In addition, the practicality of this general strategy is demonstrated by gram-scale reactions and derivatizations, and all of the reactions proceed smoothly to afford the desired compounds in excellent yields.

Abstract
The chemistry of fluorinated compounds has experienced extraordinary growth in recent decades due to the many and varied properties which many of the compounds that contain fluorinated groups possess. Among all of them, fluorinated chiral imines, in particular the Ellman's imines, are of great importance since they are some of the most interesting building blocks for the synthesis of a large number of enantioenriched carbocycles and heterocycles with extraordinary biological and synthetic properties. This personal account covers the most significant results obtained in our research group in the last two decades concerning asymmetric tandem reactions, paying special attention to the intramolecular aza-Michael reaction (IMAMR), diversity oriented synthesis (DOS), asymmetric tandem reactions involving a p-tolylsulfinyl group as chiral inducer and cycloaddition processes, in particular, the Pauson-Khand reaction, [2+2+2]-cycloadditions and metathesis reactions, starting mainly from enyne compounds and through the use of fluorinated chiral N-sulfinyl imines and their derivatives as starting materials.

Abstract
For nucleophilic monofluorination, amine/HF reagents such as Et3 N⋅3HF, Pyr⋅9HF (Olah's reagent) and similar combinations belong to the most frequently used fluoride sources, whereupon the selectivity of these reagents can be very different depending of its acidity, the nucleophilicity of the fluoride equivalent, and the structure of the particular substrate. These reagents can be used safely in ordinary chemistry laboratories for nucleophilic substitution reactions by fluoride at sp3 -hybridized carbon centers. For ring opening reactions of epoxides, the regio- and stereoselectivity is very much depending of the nature of the epoxide and the acidity of the HF reagent favoring either SN 1 or SN 2 type reactions. Similarly, the outcome of halofluorination and similar reactions with sulfur or seleno electrophiles can be controlled by the particular combination of the electrophile and the fluoride source. Examples for the application of these reaction types for the synthesis of fluorine-containing analogues of natural products or biologically relevant compounds are in the focus of this personal account.

Abstract
The ring-closing metathesis reaction of diene plays an important role in the construction of cyclic compounds. In this research, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to elucidate the mechanisms and origins of the selectivity of ring-closing metathesis and homometathesis. The computational results suggest that the selectivity is determined by the substrate conformation. For the ester-tethered substrate, the homometathesis is more favorable, due to the planar structure of ester facilitating the conjugative effect of the formed E-homometathesis product. For the amide-tethered substrate, the ring-closing metathesis product is the only observed product because the steric hindrance of N-substituents disfavors homometathesis.

Abstract
Herein, we report a metal-free intramolecular carbofluorination protocol for the synthesis of tetrasubstituted monofluoroalkenes from internal α,β-ynones and Selectfluor with both high stereoselectivity and broad functional group tolerance. The chelation between tetrafluoroborate anion and the oxygen present in the aldehyde group rendered the reaction highly stereoselective, with the tetrafluoroborate serving as the direct fluorine source. Therefore, with addition of sodium tetrafluoroborate, Selectfluor could be reused several times without sacrificing reactivity.

Abstract
2-Pyridylsulfone- and fluoroalkylated group-activated olefins underwent highly efficient diastereo- and enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions across various aromatic and aliphatic nitrones in the presence of a chiral NiII /bis(oxazoline) catalyst. The process was tuned by 4 Å molecular sieves, chiral bis(oxazoline) ligands, reaction solvents, and temperature. A wide array of optically pure fluoroalkylated isoxazolidines were obtained, thus facilitating the asymmetric synthesis of an enantioenriched α-trifluoromethylated γ-amino alcohol in gram-scale and a trifluoromethylated derivative of 1,3-oxazinan-2-one with potential pharmaceutical interest. A stereochemical model, based on the absolute configuration of one adduct and some control experiments, was postulated to account for the observed endo- and enantioselectivity.
