Abstract
A synthetic method to prepare dispiroheterocycles containing two all-carbon quaternary centers efficiently that relies on the gold(I)-catalyzed double spirocyclization of 3-ene-1,7-diyne esters is described. The suggested mechanism delineates a rare example of a dispirocyclization featuring two 1,n-acyloxy shifts comprising a 1,3-acyloxy migration and an interrupted 1,5-acyl migration that was achieved with the assistance of residual water in the reaction media.

Abstract
We identify the dominant structures of the intermediates of gold(I)-catalyzed cyclizations of 1,5-enynes and 1,5-allenenes through computational analysis as gold(I) cyclopropylcarbenes, endocyclic vinylgold complexes and previously unreported non-classical carbocationic minima. In contrast to 1,6-enynes, the exocyclic carbocations are found to be less stable. Cyclopropylcarbene structures are consistently favoured as the most stable intermediates for all studied substitution patterns. We validate the computational methods used by using DLPNO-CCSD(T) energies as a benchmark, indicating that the B3LYP-D3 and M06-D3 functionals are most accurate for energy determination, while NPA charges are mostly insensitive to functional. The evolution of a 1,6-enyne in a single-cleavage or double-cleavage rearrangement is attributed to the barrierless evolution of a common cyclopropyl-gold(I) carbocation non-stationary geometry. Our findings provide insights into reaction pathways and substrate dependence of the cycloisomerization processes.

Abstract
In the present study, the gold(I)-catalyzed reaction of 1,5-allenenes was controlled in such a way that instead of a [2 + 3] cycloaddition, a 5-exo-cyclization with the formation of a carbocation occurred. The latter could be trapped with both oxygen and carbon nucleophiles. In the investigated system, fused tricyclic frameworks with three contiguous stereocenters with excellent chemo- and diastereoselectivity in up to 95% yield were obtained.

Abstract
A bimetallic protocol has been developed to construct (Z)-γ-alkylidenebutenolide compounds from readily available propargyl α-ketoesters. It involves a gold-catalyzed 1,3-acyloxy migration of propargyl α-ketoesters and a carbonyl-ene cyclization of in situ generated allenyl esters. DFT calculations suggest that the copper salt might play dual roles as both chloride abstractor facilitating the generation of highly active gold catalyst and Lewis acid promoting the stepwise intramolecular carbonyl-ene reaction.

Abstract
Three- and four-membered rings, widespread motifs in nature and medicinal chemistry, have fascinated chemists ever since their discovery. However, due to energetic considerations, small rings are often difficult to assemble. In this regard, homogeneous gold catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool to construct these highly strained carbocycles. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of all the major advances and discoveries made in the gold-catalyzed synthesis of cyclopropanes, cyclopropenes, cyclobutanes, cyclobutenes, and their corresponding heterocyclic or heterosubstituted analogs.

Abstract
Efficient combination of two or more reactions into a practically useful purification free sequence is of great significance for the achievement of structural complexity and diversity, and an important approach for the development of new synthetic strategies that are industrially step-economic and environmentally friendly. In this work, a facile and efficient method for the construction of highly functionalized spirocyclo[4.5]decane derivatives containing a synthetically challenging quaternary carbon center has been successfully developed through the realization of a tandem Castro–Stephens coupling/1,3-acyloxy shift/cyclization/semipinacol rearrangement sequence. Thus a series of multi-substituted spirocyclo[4.5]decane and functionalized cyclohexane skeletons with a phenyl-substituted quaternary carbon center have been constructed using this method as illustrated by 24 examples in moderate to good yields. The major advantages of this method over the known strategies are better transformation efficiency (four consecutive transformations in one tandem reaction), product complexity and diversity. As a support of its potential application, a quick construction of the key tetracyclic diterpene skeleton of waihoensene has been achieved. An efficient construction of spirocyclo[4.5]decane derivatives is developed via a Castro–Stephens coupling/1,3-acyloxy shift/cyclization/semipinacol rearrangement sequence.![]()

Abstract
The gold(I)-catalyzed reaction of acetylene gas with alkenes leads to (Z,Z)-1,4-disubstituted 1,3-butadienes and biscyclopropanes depending on the donor ligand on gold(I). Acetylene was generated in situ from calcium carbide and water in a user-friendly procedure. Reaction of acetylene with 1,5-dienes gives rise stereoselectively to tricyclo[5.1.0.02,4 ]octanes. This novel double cyclopropanation has been applied to the one step total synthesis of the natural product waitziacuminone from acetylene and geranyl acetone.

Abstract
Gold is currently one of the most used metals in organometallic catalysis. The ability of gold to activate unsaturated groups in different modes, together with its tolerance to a wide range of functional groups and reaction conditions, turns gold-based complexes into efficient and highly sought after catalysts. Natural products and relevant compounds with biological and pharmaceutical activity are often characterized by complex molecular structures. (Cyclo)isomerization reactions are often a useful strategy for the generation of this molecular complexity from synthetically accessible reactants. In this review, we collect the most recent contributions in which gold(I)- and/or gold(III)-catalysts mediate intramolecular (cyclo)isomerization transformations of unsaturated species, which commonly feature allene or alkyne motifs, and organize them depending on the substrate and the reaction type.

Abstract
Gold(I) complexes bearing sterically demanding phosphine ligands such as tBuXphos catalyze the cascade Rautenstrauch rearrangement/[4 + 3] cycloaddition of 1-ethynyl-2-propenyl esters. The reaction provides an efficient and straightforward route to bicyclo[3.2.1]octa-3,6-dienes with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The formation of the [4 + 3] cycloadducts likely proceeds through the cycloaddition of a gold(I) carbenoid/gold-stabilized allyl cation intermediate with cyclopentadiene arising from Rautenstrauch rearrangement.

Abstract
In this report, the gold-catalyzed intermolecular reaction of vinyl ethers and terminal alkynes is investigated. Utilizing a triazole gold catalyst lessens gold decomposition in the presence of the vinyl ether and affords an alkynylation product instead of the [2 + 2] product. This protocol has been expanded to include glycal substrates, which undergo a one-pot alkynylation-Ferrier reaction to produce functionalized sugars in moderate to excellent yields with high diastereoselectivity.
