Abstract
We herein describe the first example of ligand-controlled, copper-catalyzed regiodivergent asymmetric difunctionalization of terminal alkynes through a cascade hydroboration and hydroallylation process. The catalytic system, consisting of (R)-DTBM-Segphos and CuBr, could efficiently achieve asymmetric 1,1-difunctionalization of aryl terminal alkynes, while ligand switching to (S,S)-Ph-BPE could result in asymmetric 1,2-difunctionalization exclusively. In addition, alkyl substituted terminal alkynes, especially industrially relevant acetylene and propyne, were also valid feedstocks for asymmetric 1,1-difunctionalization. This protocol is characterized by good functional group tolerance, a broad scope of substrates (>150 examples), and mild reaction conditions. We also showcase the value of this method in the late-stage functionalization of complicated bioactive molecules and simplifying the synthetic routes toward the key intermediacy of natural product (bruguierol A). Mechanistic studies combined with DFT calculations provide insight into the mechanism and origins of this ligand-controlled regio- and stereoselectivity.

Abstract
A palladium(II)-catalyzed Markovnikov hydroboration of aryl alkenes with readily available bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) is reported. The reaction proceeded with low catalyst loading (0.5 mol %) in the absence of N- or P-containing ligands, affording the products in up to 90% yield. Trifluoracetic acid serves as the hydrogen source, enabling the synthesis of benzylic boronic esters under mild ambient conditions.

Abstract
In this study, a series of enantioenriched sp3-Ge/B bimetallic modules were successfully synthesized via an enantioselective copper-catalyzed hydroboration of carbagermatrane (Ge)-containing alkenes. Orthogonal cross-coupling selectivity under different Pd-catalyzed conditions was achieved in an enantiospecific manner. Notably, the chiral secondary Ge exhibited a remarkable transmetallation ability prior to primary or secondary Bpin. The effectiveness of this Ge/B bimetallic strategy was further demonstrated through the development of new functional small molecules with Aggregation-Induced Emission (AIE) and Circularly Polarized Luminescence (CPL) performance. This represents the first successful example of synthesis of enantioenriched alkylgermanium reagents that permit enantiospecific cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
We report a concise synthesis of 1,8-diaminonaphthalene-protected diboronic acid (B2(dan)2), which is a promising borylating agent. B2(dan)2 is a bench-stable compound, and it could be utilized for Cu-catalyzed borylation of styrene derivatives. The reaction proceeded in a highly selective manner, and the products were isolated in up to 97% yields. Mechanistic studies revealed that a borate species would be a key intermediate for the borylation reaction.

Abstract
Organoboron showed great potential in the synthesis of various high-value chemical compounds. Direct hydroboration of olefins has been witnessed over time as a mainstream method for the synthesis of organoboron compounds. In this work, an electroreductive anti-Markovnikov hydroboration approach of olefins with readily available B2pin2 to synthesize valuable organoboron compounds with high chemo- and regioselectivities under metal catalyst-free conditions was reported. This protocol exhibited broad substrate scope and good functional-group tolerance on styrenes and heteroaromatic olefins, providing synthetically useful alkylborons with high efficiency and even various deuterium borylation products with good D-incorporation when CD3CN was employed as solvent. Furthermore, gram-scale reactions and extensive functional derivatization further highlighted the potential of this method.

Abstract
A remote C(sp3 )-H bond asymmetric borylation of unactivated alkenes was achieved by bimetallic relay catalysis. The reaction proceeded through reversible and consecutive β-H elimination/olefin insertion promoted by CoH species generated in situ, followed by copper-catalyzed asymmetric protoboration. The use of this synergistic Co/Cu catalysis protocol allowed the enantioselective protoboration of various unactivated terminal alkenes and internal alkenes, as well as an unrefined mixture of olefin isomers, at the distal less-reactive β-position to a functional group, leading to chiral organoboronates.

Abstract
Organoboron reagents represent a unique class of compounds because of their utility in modern synthetic organic chemistry, often affording unprecedented reactivity. The transformation of the carbon-boron bond into a carbon-X (X = C, N, and O) bond in a stereocontrolled fashion has become invaluable in medicinal chemistry, agrochemistry, and natural products chemistry as well as materials science. Over the past decade, first-row d-block transition metals have become increasingly widely used as catalysts for the formation of a carbon-boron bond, a transformation traditionally catalyzed by expensive precious metals. This recent focus on alternative transition metals has enabled growth in fundamental methods in organoboron chemistry. This review surveys the current state-of-the-art in the use of first-row d-block element-based catalysts for the formation of carbon-boron bonds.

Abstract
Catalytic asymmetric C-C bond formation with alkylcopper intermediates as carbon nucleophiles is now textbook chemistry. Related chemistry with boron and silicon nucleophiles where the boryl- and accordingly silylcopper intermediates are catalytically regenerated from bench-stable pronucleophiles had been underdeveloped for years or did not even exist until recently. Over the past decade, asymmetric copper catalysis employing those main-group elements as nucleophiles rapidly transformed into a huge field in its own right with an impressive breadth of enantioselective C-B and C-Si bond-forming reactions, respectively. Its current state of the art does not have to shy away from comparison with that of boron's and silicon's common neighbor in the periodic table, carbon. This Outlook is not meant to be a detailed summary of those manifold advances. It rather aims at providing a brief conceptual summary of what forms the basis of the latest exciting progress, especially in the area of three-component reactions and cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
A series of alkyl and alkenyl p-methoxy arenes containing α,β-disubstituted diamino and amino alcohol groups were synthesized from β-nitro and β-azido benzylic alcohols in the presence of AuCl3 as catalyst. The formation of predominantly syn-disubstituted products were rationalized on the basis of mechanistic considerations and transition state models relying on A1,3-allylic strain. The products could have utility in the design of medicinally relevant compounds and as chiral ligands for asymmetric catalysis. A new synthesis of (+)-sertraline (Zoloft) was achieved.

Abstract
Reported here for the first time is the Ir-catalyzed γ-selective hydroboration of γ-substituted allylic amides under mild reaction conditions. A variety of functional groups could be compatible with reaction conditions, affording γ-branched amides in good yields with ≤97% γ-selectivity. We have also demonstrated that the obtained borylated products could be used in a series of C-O, C-F, C-Br, and C-C bond-forming reactions.

Abstract
Regiocontrol in the rhodium-catalyzed boration of vinyl arenes is typically dominated by the presence of the conjugated aryl substituent. However, small differences in TADDOL-derived chiral monophosphite ligands can override this effect and direct rhodium-catalyzed hydroboration of β-aryl and β-heteroaryl methylidenes by pinacolborane to selectively produce either chiral primary or tertiary borated products. The regiodivergent behavior is coupled with enantiodivergent addition of the borane. The nature of the TADDOL backbone substituents and that of the phosphite moiety function synergistically to direct the sense and extent of regioselectivity and enantioinduction. Twenty substrates are shown to undergo each reaction mode with regioselectivity values reaching greater than 20:1 and enantiomer ratios reaching up to 98:2. A variety of subsequent transformations illustrate the potential utility of each product.

Abstract
A simple silver salt (AgOAc)-catalyzed anti-Markovnikov-selective hydroboration of alkenes, 1,3-dienes, and alkynes with pinacolborane (HBpin) has been described. This strategy provides an efficient and practical method to access various alkyl-, allyl-, and ( E)-alkenylboronate esters in good to excellent yields with regio- and stereoselectivity under ligand- and base-free conditions.

Abstract
Allylic and homoallylic phosphonates bearing an aryl or heteroaryl substituent at the γ- or δ-position undergo rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydroboration by pinacolborane to give functionalized chiral secondary benzylic boronic esters in yields up to 86% and enantiomer ratios up to 99 : 1. Compared to minimally-functionalized terminal and 1,1-disubstituted vinyl arenes, there are relatively few reports of efficient catalytic asymmetric hydroboration (CAHB) of more highly functionalized internal alkenes. Phosphonate substrates bearing a variety of common heterocyclic ring systems, including furan, indole, pyrrole and thiophene derivatives, as well as those bearing basic nitrogen substituents (e.g., morpholine and pyrazine) are tolerated, although donor substituents positioned in close proximity of the alkene can influence the course of the reaction. Stereoisomeric (E)- and (Z)-substrates afford the same major enantiomer of the borated product. Deuterium-labelling studies reveal that rapid (Z)- to (E)-alkene isomerization accounts for the observed (E/Z)-stereoconvergence during CAHB. The synthetic utility of the chiral boronic ester products is illustrated by stereospecific C-B bond transformations including stereoretentive electrophile promoted 1,2-B-to-C migrations, stereoinvertive SE2 reactions of boron-ate complexes with electrophiles, and stereoretentive palladium- and rhodium-catalyzed cross-coupling protocols.

Abstract
Phosphonate-directed catalytic asymmetric hydroboration (CAHB) of β-aryl/heteroaryl methylidenes and trisubstituted alkenes by pinacolborane enables facile access to functionalized, chiral tertiary benzylic boronic esters. Hydroboration is catalyzed by a chiral rhodium catalyst prepared in situ from a Rh(I)-precursor in combination with a simple TADDOL-derived chiral cyclic monophosphite in a 1:1 ratio. The regio- and stereochemistry arises from the combined effects of the relative disposition of the directing group to the alkene, the alkene substitution pattern, and the necessity of an aryl substituent attached to the alkene. A range of aryl and heteroaryl substituents can be accommodated, and for several chiral substrates, the reactions are efficiently catalyst-controlled enabling the choice of diastereomeric products as desired. Stereospecific transformations of the chiral boronic ester afford chiral phosphonates bearing a quaternary carbon stereocenter. The synthetic utility of the products is further demonstrated by α-oxidation of the phosphonate leading to hydroxy- and oxo-phosphonates; the latter readily undergo elimination/substitution reactions to unmask the phosphonate functionality with the formation of aldehydes, alcohols, esters, amides, acids and ketones.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective Cu-catalyzed borylation of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes is reported. The use of a chiral phosphanamine ligand is essential in achieving high chemo-, regio-, diastereo- and enantioselectivity. It provides access to a variety of homoallylic boronates in consistently high yield and enantiomeric excess with 2-aryl and 2-heteroaryl 1,3-dienes as well as sterically demanding 2-alkyl 1,3-dienes. Preliminary investigations based on a non-linear effect study point to a mechanism involving more than one metal center.

Abstract
Catalytic chemo- and enantioselective generation of tertiary benzylic copper complexes from Cu-B(pin) (pin = pinacolato) additions to 1,1-disubstituted alkenes followed by in situ reactions with ketones and carboxylic acid phenol esters to construct multifunctional alkylboron compounds that contain quaternary stereogenic centers is presented. The method is distinguished by the unprecedented reaction mode of tertiary benzylic Cu complexes, allowing reaction with a wide range of carbonyl electrophiles in good yields and with high chemo-, site-, diastereo- and enantioselectivity. The catalytic protocol was performed with easily accessible chiral ligands and copper salts at ambient temperature. Functionalization of multifunctional alkylboron products provides useful building blocks that are otherwise difficult to access.

Abstract
A palladium(ii)-catalyzed hydroboration of aryl alkenes with stable and easy-to-handle (pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) under mild conditions has been developed. Acetic acid acted as the solvent and the hydrogen source, which has been identified by deuterium experiments. Notably, isomerization-hydroboration of allyl benzene derivatives was observed. As a result, a series of benzyl boronic esters were obtained in moderate to excellent yields with exclusive regioselectivity.

Abstract
Catalytic enantioselective boron-hydride additions to 1,3-enynes, which afford allenyl-B(pin) (pin = pinacolato) products, are disclosed. Transformations are promoted by a readily accessible bis-phosphine-Cu complex and involve commercially available HB(pin). The method is applicable to aryl- and alkyl-substituted 1,3-enynes. Trisubstituted allenyl-B(pin) products were generated in 52-80% yield and, in most cases, in >98:2 allenyl:propargyl and 92:8-99:1 enantiomeric ratio. Utility is highlighted through a highly diastereoselective addition to an aldehyde, and a stereospecific catalytic cross-coupling process that delivers an enantiomerically enriched allene with three carbon-based substituents. The following key mechanistic attributes are elucidated: (1) Spectroscopic and computational investigations indicate that low enantioselectivity can arise from loss of kinetic stereoselectivity, which, as suggested by experimental evidence, may occur by formation of a propargylic anion generated by heterolytic Cu-C cleavage. This is particularly a problem when trapping of the Cu-allenyl intermediate is slow, namely, when an electron deficient 1,3-enyne or a less reactive boron-hydride reagent (e.g., HB(dan) (dan = naphthalene-1,8-diaminato)) is used or under non-optimal conditions (e.g., lower boron-hydride concentration causing slower trapping). (2) With enynes that contain a sterically demanding o-aryl substituent considerable amounts of the propargyl-B(pin) isomer may be generated (25-96%) because a less sterically demanding transition state for Cu/B exchange becomes favorable. (3) The phosphine ligand can promote isomerization of the enantiomerically enriched allenyl-B(pin) product; accordingly, lower ligand loading might at times be optimal. (4) Catalytic cross-coupling with an enantiomerically enriched allenyl-B(pin) compound might proceed with high stereospecificity (e.g., phosphine-Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling) or lead to considerable racemization (e.g., phosphine-Cu-catalyzed allylic substitution).

Abstract
Catalytic enantioselective Cu-B(pin) (pin = pinacolato) addition to N-heteroaryl-substituted alkenes followed by protonation promoted by phosphine-Cu complexes is presented. The resulting alkylboron products that contain a N-heteroaryl moiety are afforded in up to 97% yield and 99:1 enantiomeric ratio. The highly versatile C-B(pin) bond can be converted to a range of useful functional groups, delivering a variety of enantiomerically enriched building blocks that are otherwise difficult to access. The utility of this method is further demonstrated by application to a fragment synthesis of biologically active molecule U-75302. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that the adjacent N atom of the heterocycles plays a unique role in high reactivity and enantioselectivity.

Abstract
We report an efficient and highly enantioselective hydroboration of aliphatic 1,1-disubstituted alkenes with pinacolborane using a phosphine-Cu catalyst. The method allows facile preparation of enantiomerically enriched β-chiral alkyl pinacolboronates from a range of 1,1-disubstituted alkenes with high enantioselectivity up to 99% ee. Unprecedented enantiodiscrimination between the geminal alkyl substituents was observed with functional group compatibility in the hydroboration. Furthermore, a catalyst loading as low as 1 mol % furnished the desired product without a decrease in yield or selectivity, demonstrating its efficiency in gram scale synthesis.
