Abstract
Herein, we report a mild palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative allylic alkylation of allyl ester-substituted isoindolinone substrates to afford a variety of 3,3-disubstituted isoindolinone derivatives. The decarboxylative coupling reaction tolerates a range of functional groups, including ketones and alkenyl halides, and does not require protection of the isoindolinone nitrogen. Additionally, the reaction was found to proceed in near-quantitative yield for most substrates evaluated. Based on the isolation of competing cyclopropane and protonation products, a reaction mechanism is proposed.

Abstract
An enantioselective copper-catalyzed 1,2-arylboration reaction of enamines has been developed by employing (R)-xyl-BINAP as a chiral ligand. A number of chiral borate-containing 3,3'-disubstituted isoindolinones were obtained in moderate to good yields and good to excellent enantioselectivities from the reactions of N-(o-iodobenzoyl)enamines and bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) under mild reaction conditions. Synthetic transformations of the products were conducted to demonstrate the practicality of this reaction.

Abstract
An efficient asymmetric synthesis of isochromanone derivatives was realized through Z-selective-1,3-OH insertion/aldol cyclization reaction involving acyclic carboxylic oxonium ylides. The combination of achiral dirhodium salts and chiral N,N′-dioxide–metal complexes, along with the use of α-diazoketones instead of α-diazoesters, enables the cascade reaction efficiently. A variety of benzo-fused δ-lactones bearing vicinal quaternary stereocenters were obtained with good to excellent enantioselectivity, bypassing the competitive 1,1-OH insertion and racemic background aldol reaction. A highly enantioselective cascade Z-selective-1,3-OH insertion/aldol cyclization of ketoacids with diazoketones involving carboxylic oxonium ylides was achieved by using a bimetallic Rh(ii)/chiral N,N′-dioxide-Fe(iii) or Sc(iii) complex catalyst.![]()

Abstract
Multicomponent reactions that involve interception of onium ylides through Aldol, Mannich, and Michael addition with corresponding bench-stable acceptors have demonstrated broad applications in synthetic chemistry. However, because of the high reactivity and transient survival of these in situ generated intermediates, the substitution-type interception process, especially the asymmetric catalytic version, remains hitherto unknown. Herein, a three-component asymmetric allylation of α-diazo carbonyl compounds with alcohols and allyl carbonates is disclosed by employing a ternary cooperative catalysis of achiral Pd-complex, Rh2(OAc)4, and chiral phosphoric acid CPA. This method represents the first example of three-component asymmetric allylic alkylation through an SN1-type trapping process, which involves a convergent assembly of two active intermediates, Pd-allyl species, and enol derived from onium ylides, providing an expeditious access to chiral α,α-disubstituted ketones in good to high yields with high to excellent enantioselectivity. Combined experimental and computational studies have shed light on the mechanism of this novel three-component reaction, including the critical role of Xantphos ligand and the origin of enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Although dirhodium-catalyzed multicomponent reactions of diazo compounds, nucleophiles and electrophiles have achieved great advance in organic synthesis, the introduction of allylic moiety as the third component via allylic metal intermediate remains a formidable challenge in this area. Herein, an attractive three-component reaction of readily accessible amines, diazo compounds, and allylic compounds enabled by a novel dirhodium(II)/Xantphos catalysis is disclosed, affording various architecturally complex and functionally diverse α-quaternary α-amino acid derivatives in good yields with high atom and step economy. Mechanistic studies indicate that the transformation is achieved through a relay dirhodium(II)-catalyzed carbene insertion and allylic alkylation process, in which the catalytic properties of dirhodium are effectively modified by the coordination with Xantphos, leading to good activity in the catalytic allylic alkylation process.

The reaction proceeded through an oxidative C-H olefination and a subsequent cyclization by intramolecular aza-Michael addition, producing a series of diastereoisomeric chiral isoindolinones (20 examples) in generally good yields with a dr value up to 5.5 : 1. The absolute configurations of the newly formed C-stereocenters in the major and minor diastereomers of the catalysis product have been determined by X-ray crystal diffraction analysis to be S and R, respectively. The separation of the major diastereoisomers from the catalysis products and subsequent removal of the N-sulfinyl chiral auxiliary afforded enantiomerically pure (S)-isoindolinones. The application of the obtained (S)-isoindolinones in the synthesis of several biologically active isoindolinones such as (S)-PD172938, (S)-pazinaclone and (S)-pagoclone is presented.

Abstract
The enantioselective reaction of 2H-azirines with oxazol-5-(4H)-ones (oxazolones) using a cinchona alkaloid sulfonamide catalyst has been developed. The reaction proceeded at the C-2 position of oxazolones to afford products with consecutive tetrasubstituted stereogenic centers in high yield with high diastereo- and enantioselectivity. The obtained aziridines were converted into various chiral compounds without loss of enantiopurity.

Abstract
A formal Betti reaction between variously substituted phenols and benzophenone-derived imines to afford α-triphenylmethylamines is reported. The key to the success of this transformation is the in situ generation of the reactive benzophenone iminium species under organocatalytic conditions. Different phenols reacted smoothly, enabling the synthesis of an array of α-triphenylmethylamines, which are highly valued structural motifs in bioactive molecules and chemical sensors.

Abstract
A Rh(II)/Ag(I)-cocatalyzed three-component reaction of propargylic alcohol-Co2(CO)6 complexes with diazo compounds and benzyl alcohols is described, which represents the first trapping process of oxonium ylides with carbocations via the SN1/SN1'-type pathway. This transformation provides an efficient approach for construction of dicobalt hexacarbonyl-complexed 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles. Further derivatization of the product, initiated by the deprivation of the dicobalt species, gives the 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles with the ene alkynyl group and the privileged spirooxindole-vinyldihydropyran structure.

Abstract
An intramolecular C(sp3)-H amidation proceeds in the presence of t-BuOK, molecular oxygen, and DMF. This transformation is initiated by the deprotonation of an acidic N-H bond and selective radical activation of a benzylic C-H bond towards hydrogen atom transfer (HAT). Cyclization of this radical-anion intermediate en route to a two-centered/three-electron (2c,3e) C-N bond removes electron density from nitrogen. As this electronegative element resists such an "oxidation", making nitrogen more electron rich is key to overcoming this problem. This work dramatically expands the range of N-anions that can participate in this process by using amides instead of anilines. The resulting 107-fold decrease in the N-component basicity (and nucleophilicity) doubles the activation barrier for C-N bond formation and makes this process nearly thermoneutral. Remarkably, this reaction also converts a weak reductant into a much stronger reductant. Such "reductant upconversion" allows mild oxidants like molecular oxygen to complete the first part of the cascade. In contrast, the second stage of NH/CH activation forms a highly stabilized radical-anion intermediate incapable of undergoing electron transfer to oxygen. Because the oxidation is unfavored, an alternative reaction path opens via coupling between the radical anion intermediate and either superoxide or hydroperoxide radical. The hydroperoxide intermediate transforms into the final hydroxyisoindoline products under basic conditions. The use of TEMPO as an additive was found to activate less reactive amides. The combination of experimental and computational data outlines a conceptually new mechanism for conversion of unprotected amides into hydroxyisoindolines proceeding as a sequence of C-H amidation and C-H oxidation.

Abstract
BF3·OEt2-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of vinyl azides to in situ generated N-acyl iminium salts obtained from 3-hydroxyisoindolinones is described in this article. The procedure is operationally simple, mild, additive, and metal-free. The reaction proceeds smoothly at ambient temperature with a wide range of 3-hydroxyisoindol-1-ones and vinyl azides to afford 3-oxoisoindoline-1-acetamides (32 examples) in high yields (up to 97%). Furthermore, the synthetic utility of this methodology is depicted by exploiting the reactivity of an amide functionality in the products.

Abstract
The asymmetric aminomethylation reaction of 3-diazooxindoles with electronic-rich arenes and N,O-acetals cooperatively catalyzed by achiral dirhodium complex and chiral phosphoric acid is reported. The reaction provides a novel method for the facile synthesis of chiral 3-aminomethyl oxindoles with an all-carbon quaternary center in good yields (82-98%) with high to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee). The transformation proceeds through a convergent addition of a reactive zwitterionic intermediate with a chiral methylene iminium generated in situ via asymmetric counteranion-directed catalysis (ACDC). This work represents the first asymmetric aminomethylation method of mixed 3,3'-bisindoles with structural diversity.

Abstract
An enantio- and diastereoselective syntheses of 1, 3-disubstituted isoindolines and tetrahydroisoquinolines via CuI-Pybox-diPh catalyzed one-pot imination-alkynylation-aza-Michael sequence has been reported. The three-component reaction produces one C-C and two C-N bonds sequentially with high yield (up to 92%), enantioselectivity (up to 99%), and diastereoselectivity (up to 9:1) in a single operation. Furthermore, the synthetic utility of the product has been demonstrated by LiAlH4 reduction of ester and hydrogenation of alkyne functionality without losing the stereoselectivity.

Abstract
An efficient and mild synthesis of a variety of 3-(2-oxopropyl)-isoindolinone derivatives via a BF3·Et2O catalyzed cascade reaction among 3-hydroxyisoindolin-1-one and phenylacetylene was achieved. Various isoindolinone derivatives were obtained in good to excellent yields. The process, which avoided several drawbacks such as the requirement of concentrated protic acids and metal catalysts, protecting group of nitrogen, high temperature, and multistep synthesis, includes C(sp3)-OH cleavage, C-C coupling, and hydration of alkyne.
