Abstract
Synthesis of diversely functionalized quinoline-2-carboxylates is illustrated through electrochemical cross-dehydrogenative coupling between N-aryl glycinates and methylenecyclopropanes. An extensive range of distinct functionalities is well-compatible under these transition-metal- and oxidant-free mild electrochemical conditions, contributing to a broad substrate scope and practical applicability. Cyclic voltammetric measurements and control experiments suggested a formal [4 + 2] cycloaddition involving radical intermediates, followed by a cyclopropyl ring opening through nucleophilic polar addition, consecutively fabricating C-C and C-N bonds.

Abstract
Phenazines, crucial constituents of nitrogen-containing heterocycles, widely exist in functional compounds. Herein, we report an anodic oxidative (4 + 2) cyclization between anilines and o-phenylenediamines for the uniform construction of phenazines in a simple undivided cell. Dual C-H amination followed by oxidation represents an outstanding step and atom efficiency. A sequence of phenazines is produced with excellent functional group tolerance at room temperature.

Abstract
Preparing valuable olefins from cheap and abundant alkane resources has long been a challenging task in organic synthesis, which mainly suffers from harsh reaction conditions and narrow scopes. Homogeneous transition metals catalyzed dehydrogenation of alkanes has attracted much attention for its excellent catalytic activities under relatively milder conditions. Among them, base metal catalyzed oxidative alkane dehydrogenation has emerged as a viable strategy for olefin synthesis for its usage of cheap catalysts, compatibility with various functional groups, and low reaction temperature. In this review, we discuss recent development of base metal catalyzed alkane dehydrogenation under oxidative conditions and their application in constructing complex molecules.

Abstract
An asymmetric double oxidative [3 + 2] cycloaddition is reported. Oxidation of 3-((2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)amino)indolin-2-ones and β-aryl-substituted aldehydes simultaneously and subsequent asymmetric cycloaddition in the presence of the chiral amino catalyst generated highly functionalized chiral CF3-containing spiro[pyrrolidin-3,2'-oxindole] with four contiguous stereocenters stereoselectively, which is characterized by directly constructing two C-C bonds from four C(sp3)-H bonds. This new method features mild conditions, broad substrate scope, and excellent functional group compatibility.

Abstract
Via a copper-catalyzed three-component annulation reaction, we herein report a new method for the direct and syn-selective construction of cyclic ether-fused tetrahydroquinolines from readily available secondary anilines, saturated five or six-membered cyclic ethers, and paraformaldehyde. The synthesis features operational simplicity, excellent step and atom efficiency, good functionality and substrate compatibility. In comparison with the reported synthetic protocols capable of synthesizing N-alkyl fused tetrahydroquinolines, this newly developed chemistry allows access to both N-alkyl and N-aryl products. The current work complements the preparation of fused tetrahydroquinolines.

Abstract
We describe a synergistic utilization of copper catalysis and proton-transfer catalysis that enables an atom- and step-economical aza-[4 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of readily available N-arylamino carbonyl compounds with simple 1,3-dienes. The reaction proceeds smoothly under an air atmosphere and produces water as the sole side product. Whereas the amines can directly serve as the C- and N-atom donors, this operationally simple protocol provides green, rapid, and efficient access to 1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridines with a broad scope.

Abstract
A Lewis acid catalyzed annulation reaction via arene functionalization of nitrosoarenes and C-C cleavage of (epoxy)styrene to provide arylquinolines is reported. The Lewis acid catalyst altered the annulation pattern providing arylquinolines instead of oxazolidines. The reaction with styrene resulted in a mixture of 2,4-diarylquinoline and 4-arylquinoline, while only 3-arylquinoline was formed from the reaction of epoxystyrene.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed reaction protocol for the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzenes into styrene derivatives has been developed. This reaction procedure proceeded well under mild reaction conditions, providing a practical and efficient strategy for the rapid assembly of biologically and pharmaceutically significant molecules, such as vinyl sulfone. Simple alkyl arenes were functionalized via consecutive β-elimination in the presence of N-sulfonylbenzo[d]imidazole with broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract
Reactions that form C–C bonds are at the heart of many important transformations, both in industry and in academia. From the myriad of catalytic approaches to achieve such transformations, those relying on C–H functionalization are gaining increasing interest due to their inherent sustainable nature. In this short review, we showcase the most recent advances in the field of C–C bond formation via C–H functionalization, but focusing only on those methodologies relying on copper catalysts. This coinage metal has gained increased popularity in recent years, not only because it is cheaper and more abundant than precious metals, but also thanks to its rich and versatile chemistry.1 Introduction2 Cross-Dehydrogenative Coupling under Thermal Conditions2.1 C(sp3)–C(sp3) Bond Formation2.2 C(sp3)–C(sp2) Bond Formation2.3 C(sp2)–C(sp2) Bond Formation2.4 C(sp3)–C(sp) Bond Formation3 Cross-Dehydrogenative Coupling under Photochemical Conditions3.1 C(sp3)–C(sp3) Bond Formation3.2 C(sp3)–C(sp2) and C(sp3)–C(sp) Bond Formation4 Conclusion and Perspective

Abstract
A procedure for K2S2O8-mediated thiocyanation of α-amino carbonyl compounds has been developed for the synthesis of aromatic thiocyanates. A series of α-amino carbonyl compounds have been investigated, and the desired products are obtained in 74%–93% yields. This strategy has the advantages of simple reaction conditions without use of a transition-metal catalyst, high regioselectivity, and high efficiency. Moreover, we found that arylamine thiocyanates can also be obtained from α-amino carbonyl compounds and potassium thiocyanate in the presence of CoCl2·6H2O, I2, and dimethyl sulfoxide through the cleavage of the C–N bond. To explore the reaction mechanism, we designed several control experiments and proposed a possible mechanism using the experimental results and related literature reports.

Abstract
A metal‐free, photoinduced aerobic tandem amine dehydrogenation/Povarov cyclization/aromatization reaction between N‐aryl glycine esters and indoles leads to tetracyclic 11H‐indolo[3,2‐c]quinolines under mild conditions and with high yields. The reaction can be performed by using molecular iodine along with visible light, or by combining an organic photoredox catalyst with a halide anion. Mechanistic studies reveal that product formation occurs through a combination of radical‐mediated oxidation steps with an iminium ion or N‐haloiminium ion [4+2]‐cycloaddition, and the N‐heterocyclic products constitute new analogues of the antiplasmodial natural alkaloid isocryptolepine.

Abstract
A practical visible-light-induced aerobic oxidative dehydrogenative coupling reaction of glycine derivatives with olefins has been developed to efficiently synthesize quinoline-2-carboxylates. This metal-free process proceeds smoothly under mild conditions and exhibits good tolerance of functional groups. Given the low cost of the catalyst and feedstock materials, the mild reaction conditions and the absence of hazardous byproducts, this protocol should find broad applications in the synthesis of quinoline-2-carboxylate derivatives.
