Abstract
Allyl sulfones are important sulfur-containing compounds that have widespread applications in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry and materials science. Herein, nickel-catalysed dehydrosulfonylation of unactivated allyl alcohols with aryl sulfonyl hydrazides without additional active agents under mild conditions was developed. A variety of functional allyl sulfones could be efficiently synthesized in the presence of air-stable Ni(acac)2 as the catalyst and 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (DPPF) as the ligand.

Abstract
A one-pot dehydration cross-coupling reaction between allyl alcohols and sodium sulfinates that provides allyl sulfones in good to excellent yields is presented. Its broad substrate scope includes symmetrical and asymmetrical α,α-diaryl- and α-aryl-substituted allylic alcohols and aryl and alkyl sodium sulfinates. For asymmetrical allylic substrates, the E isomer predominates with examples of excellent stereoselectivity. Control experiments provide the basis for a proposed radical-mediated mechanism. The metal-free procedure applies cheap and commercially available tetrabutylammonium tribromide as the catalyst and H2O as the solvent. Notable features of this simple, efficient, weakly toxic, and environmentally benign strategy include mild and convenient operating conditions and readily accessible starting materials.

Abstract
The Tsuji-Trost reaction between carbonyl compounds and allylic precursors has been widely used in the synthesis of natural products and pharmaceutical compounds. As the α-C-H bond is far more acidic than the β-C-H bond, carbonyl compounds undergo highly regioselective allylation at the α-position and their β-allylation is therefore highly challenging. This innate α-reactivity conversely hampers diversity, especially if the corresponding β-allylation product is targeted. Herein, we present a formal intermolecular β-C-C bond formation reaction of a broad range of aldehydes and ketones with different allyl electrophiles through cooperative nickel and photoredox catalysis. β-Selectivity is achieved via initial transformation of the aldehydes and ketones to their corresponding silyl enol ethers. The overall transformation features mild conditions, excellent regioselectivity, wide functional group tolerance and high reaction efficiency. The introduced facile and regioselective β-allylation of carbonyl compounds proceeding through cooperative catalysis allows the preparation of valuable building blocks that are difficult to access from aldehydes and ketones using existing methodology.

Abstract
Rhodium-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of nitrogen-tethered allenols was investigated for the synthesis of functionalized morpholines. By using this strategy, various N-protected 2,5- and 2,6-disubstituted as well as 2,3,5- and 2,5,6-trisubstituted morpholines were obtained via an atom-economic pathway with high to excellent yields, diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to 99% yield, up to >99 : 1 dr and up to >99.9 ee). The utilities of the synthesized morpholines in ozonolysis, hydration, metathesis and epoxidation reactions were also investigated.

Abstract
A new protocol is herein described for the direct generation of alkylated indolo/benzoimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-6(5H)-one derivatives by using Hantzsch esters as alkylation radical precursors using a photoredox/K2S2O8 system. This oxidative alkylation of active alkenes involves a radical cascade cyclization process and a sequence of Hantzsch ester single electron oxidation, C-C bond cleavage, alkylation, arylation and oxidative deprotonation.

Abstract
The catalysis by a π-allyl-Co/Ni complex has drawn significant attention recently due to its distinct reactivity in reductive Co/Ni-catalyzed allylation reactions. Despite significant success in reaction development, the critical oxidative addition mechanism to form the π-allyl-Co/Ni complex remains unclear. Herein, we present a study to investigate this process with four catalysis-relevant complexes: Co(MeBPy)Br2, Co(MePhen)Br2, Ni(MeBPy)Br2, and Ni(MePhen)Br2. Enabled by an electroanalytical platform, Co(I)/Ni(I) species were found responsible for the oxidative addition of allyl acetate. Kinetic features of different substrates were characterized through linear free-energy relationship (Hammett-type) studies, statistical modeling, and a DFT computational study. In this process, a coordination-ionization-type transition state was proposed, sharing a similar feature with Pd(0)-mediated oxidative addition in Tsuji-Trost reactions. Computational and ligand structural analysis studies support this mechanism, which should provide key information for next-generation catalyst development.

Abstract
Photoredox catalysis has recently emerged as a powerful synthetic platform for accessing complex chemical structures through non-traditional bond disconnection strategies that proceed through free-radical intermediates. Such synthetic strategies have been used for a range of organic transformations; however, in carbohydrate chemistry they have primarily been applied to the generation of oxocarbenium ion intermediates in the ubiquitous glycosylation reaction. In this Review, we present more intricate light-induced synthetic strategies to modify native carbohydrates through homolytic C-H and C-C bond cleavage. These strategies allow access to glycans and glycoconjugates with profoundly altered carbohydrate skeletons, which are challenging to obtain through conventional synthetic means. Carbohydrate derivatives with such structural motifs represent a broad class of natural products integral to numerous biochemical processes and can be found in active pharmaceutical substances. Here we present progress made in C-H and C-C bond activation of carbohydrates through photoredox catalysis, focusing on the operational mechanisms and the scope of the described methodologies.

Abstract
An iron-promoted oxidative tandem alkylation/cyclization of ynones with 4-alkyl-substituted 1,4-dihydropyridines for the efficient synthesis of 2-alkylated indenones is described. The process occurs via oxidative homolysis of a C-C σ-bond in 1,4-dihydropyridines to generate an alkyl radical followed by the addition of C-C triple bonds in ynones and intramolecular cyclization. A wide range of alkyl radicals could be efficiently transferred to generate a series of synthetically useful 2-alkylated indenones with excellent selectivity under mild conditions.

Abstract
The IrIII/NiII-metallaphotoredox-catalyzed enantioselective decarboxylative arylation of α-amino acids has been systematically investigated using density functional theory calculations. The combination of oxidative quenching (IrIII-*IrIII-IrIV-IrIII) or reductive quenching (IrIII-*IrIII-IrII-IrIII) cycle with the nickel catalytic cycle (NiII-NiI-NiIII-NiII) is possible. The favorable reaction mechanism consists of three major processes: single-electron transfer, oxidative addition, and stepwise outer-sphere reductive elimination. The rate-determining step is the oxidative addition. Unexpectedly, the enantio-determining C-C bond formation occurs via an ion-pair intermediate involved in the stepwise outer-sphere reductive elimination process, which is unusual in the IrIII/NiII-metallaphotoredox catalysis. Furthermore, computational results reveal that the high enantioselectivity of this reaction is mainly dependent on the steric effect of substituents on substrates. This theoretical study provides useful knowledge for deep insights into the activity and selectivity of visible-light-mediated enantioselective metallaphotoredox dual catalysis at the molecular and atomic levels and benefits the development of asymmetric synthesis.

Abstract
Despite the rapid progress in C-C bond-forming reactions using Katritzky salts, their deaminative allylation remains a challenge. Inspired by the metallaphotoredox-catalyzed allylic substitution regime, here, we report the deaminative allylation of Katritzky salts via cobalt/organophotoredox dual catalysis. This cross-electrophile coupling enables regioselective allylation using a variety of allylic esters, overcoming the substrate limitations of reported protocols. Mechanistic studies indicate the involvement of a π-allyl cobalt complex as a radicalophile that mediates C-C bond formation.

Abstract
Visible-light-induced inexpensive photocatalyst and transition metal dual catalytic cross-coupling has attracted much attention for efficiently constructing various chemical bonds. The 4CzIPN/Ni0-metallaphotoredox catalyzed enantioselective desymmetrization of cyclic meso-anhydrides with benzyl trifluoroborates has been systematically investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. A radical mechanism merging reductive quenching (PC-*PC-PC--PC) and nickel catalytic cycles (Ni0-NiII-NiIII-NiI-Ni0) is favourable. It consists of seven major processes: single-electron reduction of *PC by benzyl trifluoroborates to generate benzyl radical, ligand exchange, oxidative addition, radical addition, reductive elimination, reduction of NiI by PC- complex via single-electron transfer (SET) process to obtain ground-state PC, and the ion exchange to afford the desired product enantio-enriched keto-acids and regenerate Ni0 catalyst. The oxidative addition is not only the enantio-determining step but also the rate-determining step of the catalytic cycle. In addition, we tried to disclose the origin of high enantioselectivity from both the steric and electronic effects and explain the origin of diastereoselectivity based on the proposed mechanism. Meanwhile, the difference of catalytic activity between Ni0 and NiII as the initial catalysts is caused by the different activation energy barriers based on their respective favourable reaction pathways. This study will hopefully benefit the future understanding of such photoredox-mediated dual catalyzed asymmetric synthesis.

Abstract
Herein we report a nickel/photo-cocatalyzed C(sp2)-H allylation of aldehydes and formamides wherein both allyl acetates and allyl alcohols can be used as the allylating agents. In this reaction, radical-type umpolung of the formyl moiety is enabled by tetrabutylammonium decatungstate as a hydrogen-atom-transfer photocatalyst, whereas nickel serves to cleave the C-O bond of allyl acetates or allyl alcohols. The synergistic effect of these two catalysts provides new access to various β,γ-unsaturated ketones and amides with high selectivities.

Abstract
Cooperative photoredox- and nickel-catalyzed alkylative cyclization reactions of iodoalkynes with 4-alkyl-1,4-dihydropyridines as alkylation reagents under visible light irradiation have been achieved to afford the corresponding alkylated cyclopentylidenes in good to high yields. Introduction of substituents at the propargylic position of iodoalkynes has led to the stereoselective formation of E-isomers. The present reaction system provides a novel synthetic method for alkylative cyclization reactions of both terminal and internal alkynes with cooperative photoredox and nickel catalysis.

Abstract
Organic compounds that show Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF) have become wildly popular as next-generation emitters in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Since 2016, a subset of these have found increasing use as photocatalysts. This review comprehensively highlights their potential by documenting the diversity of the reactions where an organic TADF photocatalyst can be used in lieu of a noble metal complex photocatalyst. Beyond the small number of TADF photocatalysts that have been used to date, the analysis conducted within this review reveals the wider potential of organic donor-acceptor TADF compounds as photocatalysts. A discussion of the benefits of compounds showing TADF for photocatalysis is presented, which paints a picture of a very promising future for organic photocatalyst development.

Abstract
The attachment of homoleptic Ru bis-terpy complexes on graphene oxide significantly improved the photocatalytic activity of the complexes. These straightforward complexes were applied as photocatalysts in a Heck reaction. Due to covalent functionalization on graphene oxide, which functions as an electron reservoir, excellent yields were obtained. DFT investigations of the charge redistribution revealed efficient hole transfer from the excited Ru unit towards the graphene oxide.

Abstract
An efficient nickel-catalyzed removal of alkene protection group under mild condition with high functional group tolerance through chain walking process has been established. Not only phenolic ethers, but also alcoholic ethers can be tolerated with the retention of stereocenter adjacent to hydroxyl group. The new reaction brings the homoallyl group into a start of new type of protecting group.
