Abstract
Chiral phosphonium salt catalysis, traditionally classified as a type of phase transfer catalysis, has proven to be a powerful strategy for the stereoselective preparation of diverse optically active molecules. However, there still remain numerous forbidding issues of reactivity and selectivity in such well-known organocatalysis system. Accordingly, the development of new and high-performance phosphonium salt catalysts with unique chiral backbones is highly desirable, yet challenging. This Minireview describes the prominent endeavours in the development of a new family of chiral peptide-mimic phosphonium salt catalysts with multiple hydrogen-bonding donors and their applications in a plethora of enantioselective synthesis during the past few years. Hopefully, this minireview will pave a way for further developing much more efficient and privileged chiral ligands/catalysts featuring exclusively catalytic ability in asymmetric synthesis.

Abstract
Type II fatty acid synthases are promising drug targets against major bacterial pathogens. Platensimycin (PTM) is a potent inhibitor against β-ketoacyl-[acyl carrier protein] synthase II (FabF) and β-ketoacyl-[acyl carrier protein] synthase I (FabB), while the poor pharmacokinetics has prevented its further development. In this work, thirty-two PTM derivatives were rapidly prepared via Heck, Sonogashira, and one-pot Sonogashira/cycloaddition cascade reactions based on the Gram-scale synthesis of 6-iodo PTM (4). About half of the synthesized compounds were approximately equipotent to PTM against the tested Staphylococcus aureus strains. Among them, the representative compounds 4, A4, and B8 exhibited different plasma protein binding affinity or stability in the human hepatic microsome assay and showed improved in vivo efficacy over PTM in a mouse peritonitis model. In addition, A4 was also effective in an S. aureus-infected skin mouse model. Our study not only significantly expands the known PTM derivatives with improved antibacterial activities in vivo, but showcased that C–C cross-coupling reactions are useful tools to functionalize natural product drug leads.

Abstract
A one-pot method for the selective synthesis of two isomers 4H-chromene and 2,8-dioxabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane derivatives was developed without a catalyst and using EtOH/H2O (4:1, v/v) as the solvent. The reaction was conducted under mild conditions, with forming multiple chemical bonds in one pot and high atom economy, and only a stoichiometric amount of H2O is produced as the byproduct. Its selectivity was controlled by thermodynamics and kinetics, and the reasons for the transformation of the two structures are also discussed.

Abstract
A regioselective [3+2] cyclisation reaction between 2-arylidene-1,3-indanedione and ethyl 2,3-butadienoate catalysed by triphenylphosphine has been demonstrated to synthesize functionalised spirocyclic cyclopentenes. The reaction tolerated various electron-rich and electron-deficient aryl substituted 2-arylidene-1,3-indanediones with high to excellent chemical yields (up to 99%) and moderate to good regioselectivity (up to 5 : 1). DFT studies have also been carried out to understand the regioselective nature of this reaction. The results of Frontier molecular orbital calculations and the activation energy (E a) favour the formation of compound 3avia γ-attack compared to that of 4avia α-attack.

Cycloaddition reactions are of great interest due to their potential and rapid construction of optically enriched spiro-cyclic products. 3-Methyleneindolinones have been proven to be a valuable precursor in cycloaddition reactions for the construction of diverse 3,3'-spirocyclic oxindoles. Their versatile reactivity has provided a new forum for the development of a variety of building blocks and synthetic compounds, including bioactive molecules. Herein, significant accomplishments in the cycloaddition reactions of 3-methyleneindolinones for the synthesis of spirooxindoles have been summarised and elaborated. The review is outlined according to the type of cycloaddition such as [2 + 1], [2 + 2], [3 + 2], [4 + 2] and [5 + 2] cycloaddition reactions.

Abstract
ϵ-Benzosultam derivatives are potential drug candidates with diverse biological activities. A series of chiral ϵ-benzosultams bearing phosphorus functionalities was synthesized by catalytic asymmetric hydrophosphonylation in the presence of a bifunctional phosphonium salt catalyst. The desired hydrophosphonylation products were obtained in good yields with high enantioselectivities, and scale-up reactions and further derivations were successfully accomplished. Some control experiments were also conducted to elucidate the plausible reaction mechanism of this chemical transformation.

Abstract
An enantioselective [2 + 4]-annulation of γ-substituted allenoates with N-acyldiazenes has been developed for the first time. In the presence of an l-proline-derived DMAP analogue, the annulation proceeded smoothly to afford a broad range of 1,3,4-oxadiazine derivatives in good to excellent yields with high stereoselectivities.
