Template-Free Synthesis of Ruthenium Oxide Nanotubes for High-Performance Electrochemical Capacitors

α-NiO/Ni(OH)2/AgNP/F-Graphene Composite for Energy Storage Application

The α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂/AgNP/F-graphene composite, which is silver nanoparticles preanchored on the surface of fluorinated graphene (AgNP/FG) and then added to α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂, is investigated as a potential battery material. The addition of AgNP/FG endows the electrochemical redox reaction of α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂ with a synergistic effect, resulting in enhanced Faradaic efficiency with the redox reactions of silver accompanied by the OER and the ORR. It resulted in enhanced specific capacitance (F g^-1) and capacity (mA h g^-1). The specific capacitance of α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂ increased from 148 to 356 F g^-1 with the addition of AgNP(20)/FG, while it increased to 226 F g^-1 with the addition of AgNPs alone without F-graphene. The specific capacitance of α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂/AgNP(20)/FG further increased up to 1153 F g^-1 with a change in the voltage scan rate from 20 to 5 mV/s and the Nafion-free α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂/AgNP(20)/FG composite. In a similar trend, the specific capacity of α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂ increased from 266 to 545 mA h g^-1 by the addition of AgNP(20)/FG. The performance of hybrid Zn-Ni/Ag/air electrochemical reactions by α-NiO/Ni(OH)₂/AgNP(200)/FG and Zn-coupled electrodes indicates a potential for a secondary battery. It results in a specific capacity of 1200 mA h g^-1 and a specific energy of 660 W h kg^-1, which is divided into Zn-Ni reactions of ∼95 W h kg^-1 and Zn-Ag/air reactions of ∼420 W h kg^-1, while undergoing a Zn-air reaction of ∼145 W h kg^-1.

High-performance asymmetric supercapacitor based on CdCO3/CdO/Co3O4 composite supported on Ni foam

A CdCO₃/CdO/Co₃O₄ composite has been prepared on nickel foam through a combined hydrothermal-annealing method. An asymmetric hybrid supercapacitor (SC) device was assembled with this composite as the positive electrode and activated carbon was the negative electrode. The SC exhibited a high specific capacitance of 84 F g⁻¹ @ 1 mA cm⁻², a maximum energy density of 26.3 W h kg⁻¹, and a power density of 2290 W kg⁻¹, along with a wide potential window of 1.5 V and long cycle life (92% after 6000 cycles). SCs assembled in series powered various light-emitting diodes and moved an electrical mini-motor.

This work presents for the first time a CdCO₃/CdO/Co₃O₄@nickel foam based supercapacitor with high both specific capacitance and energy density, a widespread potential window and a long cycle life.

Airborne concentrations and chemical considerations of radioactive ruthenium from an undeclared major nuclear release in 2017

In October 2017, most European countries reported unique atmospheric detections of aerosol-bound radioruthenium (¹⁰⁶Ru). The range of concentrations varied from some tenths of µBq·m^-3 to more than 150 mBq·m^-3 The widespread detection at such considerable (yet innocuous) levels suggested a considerable release. To compare activity reports of airborne ¹⁰⁶Ru with different sampling periods, concentrations were reconstructed based on the most probable plume presence duration at each location. Based on airborne concentration spreading and chemical considerations, it is possible to assume that the release occurred in the Southern Urals region (Russian Federation). The ¹⁰⁶Ru age was estimated to be about 2 years. It exhibited highly soluble and less soluble fractions in aqueous media, high radiopurity (lack of concomitant radionuclides), and volatility between 700 and 1,000 °C, thus suggesting a release at an advanced stage in the reprocessing of nuclear fuel. The amount and isotopic characteristics of the radioruthenium release may indicate a context with the production of a large ¹⁴⁴Ce source for a neutrino experiment.

One Dimensional Silver-based Nanomaterials: Preparations and Electrochemical Applications

One dimensional (1D) silver-based nanomaterials have a great potential in various fields because of their high specific surface area, high electric conductivity, optoelectronic properties, mechanical flexibility and high electro-catalytic efficiency. In this Review, the preparations of 1D silver-based nanomaterials is classified by structure composed of simple silver nanowires/rods/belts/tubes, core-shells, and hybrids. The latest applications based on 1D silver nanomaterials and their composite materials are summarized systematically including electrochemical capacitors, lithium-ion/lithium-oxygen batteries, electrochemical sensors and electrochemical catalysis. The preparation process, tailored material properties and electrochemical applications are discussed.

Highly ordered sandwich-type (phthalocyaninato)(porphyrinato) europium double-decker nanotubes and room temperature NO2 sensitive properties

Nanotubes of compound 2 showed high sensitivity to NO₂, revealing that a molecular packing mode can tune gas sensing properties.

Synthesis of Antimony Nanotubes via Facile Template-Free Solvothermal Reactions

Uniform antimony (Sb) nanotubes were successfully synthesized via a facile solvothermal method without the need for any surfactants or templates. The Sb nanotubes are confirmed to be pure rhombohedral phase and have better crystallinity. These nanotubes show middle-hollow and open-ended structures, as well as multi-walled structures with the wall thickness of about 10 nm. Also, they have an average size of the diameter of about 50 nm and the length of about 350 nm. On the basis of the structural and morphological studies, a possible rolling mechanism is proposed to explain the formation of Sb nanotubes. It is expected that uniform Sb nanotubes can further be used in wide applications. Graphical Abstract A possible rolling-formation mechanism is proposed for forming pure rhombhedral phase and high crystallinity antimony nanotubes without any surfactants or templates via a facile solvothermal method.
