Abstract
Methods for regioselective ring-opening reactions of N-sulfonyl-protected aziridyl alcohols with azole nucleophiles have been developed. Several classes of azoles, including indazole, substituted pyrazole, benzotriazole, and tetrazole, have been employed as reaction partners, giving rise to C3-selective opening and >3:1 N-selectivity. BF3•OEt2 is the optimal catalyst for most substrate combinations, although examples where diphenylborinic acid (Ph2BOH) provides higher yields, or where the reactions proceed efficiently without a catalyst, are also described. Computational modeling of the BF3•OEt2-catalyzed reaction is consistent with the observed regiochemical outcome. The calculated ring-opening transition state appears to be stabilized by an unconventional OH···FB hydrogen-bonding interaction.

Abstract
Herein, we report an electricity-driven activation of aziridine via direct anodic oxidation to give N-heterocycles and 1,2-bifunctionalized products by excluding any oxidant/reductant or metal catalyst. Many structurally modified aziridines were employed in the presence of different nitriles. A large variety of nucleophiles were screened to furnish chemoselectively O-alkylated and C-alkylated products. Late-stage derivatization of aziridine with natural and medicinally active compounds has also been done. Remarkably, our strategy was found to be a greener, sustainable, and atom-economical approach (E-factor = ca. 0.8). Azetidine was also found to be compatible with our protocol and generated six-membered N-heterocycles. The detailed mechanistic study highlighted that the reaction is driven via the generation of an aziridine radical cation followed by the SN2 nucleophilic attack.

Abstract
1,2-Diamination of alkenes represents an attractive way to generate differentiated vicinal diamines, which are prevalent motifs in biologically active compounds and catalysts. However, existing methods are usually limited in scope and produce diamines where one or both nitrogens are protected, adding synthetic steps for deprotection and further N-functionalization to reach a desired target. Furthermore, the range of amino groups that can be introduced at the internal position is fairly limited. Here we describe a 1,2-diamination of styrenes that directly installs a free amino group at the terminal position and a wide variety of unprotected nitrogen nucleophiles (primary or secondary alkyl or aromatic amines, sulfoximines, N-heterocycles, and ammonia surrogate) at the internal position. Two complementary sets of conditions encompass electronically activated and deactivated styrenes with diverse substitution patterns and functional groups. Moreover, this strategy can be extended to the 1,2-aminothiolation of styrenes.

Abstract
Thioesters have been recognized as a class of powerful bifunctional reagents, namely, great donors of acyl and sulfide moieties. However, such application in value-added synthesis is still very limited to date. Herein, a nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction system of aziridines with thioesters was developed under redox-neutral and mild conditions. This catalytic method provides an atom-economic route for the synthesis of diverse β-sulfanyl amide derivatives with wide substrate scope (43 examples), good functional group tolerance, and regioselectivity.

Abstract
Herein, we report the first example of a highly enantioselective alkylative aziridine ring opening. Under the catalysis of a chiral nickel/pyridine-imidazoline complex, asymmetric C(sp3)-C(sp3) cross-electrophile coupling between racemic N-sulfonyl styrenyl aziridines and readily available primary alkyl bromides furnishes a variety of highly enantioenriched phenethylamine derivatives with complete regiocontrol and good functional group tolerance. Preliminary mechanistic studies support a reaction pathway consisting of regioselective iodolysis of aziridines in situ and subsequent enantioconvergent coupling of the generated β-amino benzyl iodides with alkyl bromides.

Abstract
In general, the P-centered ring-opening of quaternary phosphirenium salts (QPrS) predominantly leads to hydrophosphorylated products, while the C-centered ring-opening is primarily confined to intramolecular nucleophilic reactions, resulting in the formation of phosphorus-containing cyclization products instead of difunctionalized products generated through intermolecular nucleophilic processes. Here, through the promotion of ring-opening of three-member rings by iodine anions and the quenching of electronegative carbon atoms by iodine cations, we successfully synthesize β-functionalized vinylphosphine oxides by the P-addition of QPrS intermediates generated in situ. Multiple β-iodo-substituted vinylphosphine oxides can be obtained with exceptional regio- and stereo-selectivity by reacting secondary phosphine oxides with unactivated alkynes. In addition, a variety of β-functionalized vinylphosphine oxides converted from C-I bonds, especially the rapid construction of benzo[b]phospholes oxides, demonstrates the significance of this strategy.

Abstract
A (3 + 3) annulation of aminocyclopropanes and vinyldiazo compounds enabled by organo-photocatalysis is described. The reaction allows the regioselective synthesis of cyclohexenes bearing adjacent amino and carbonyl groups with broad functional group tolerance. In a departure from previous reports, our work demonstrated that a distonic radical cation can be preferentially intercepted by weakly nucleophilic vinyldiazo compounds, followed by an exclusive 6-endo radical cyclization for ring closure. Based on the interaction between adjacent amino and ester groups, the products can be further converted to cyclohexene-fused 1,3-oxazinane and azetidine.

Abstract
In the long-standing quest to synthesize fundamental building blocks with key functional group motifs, photochemistry in the recent past has comprehensively established its attractiveness. Amino alcohols are not only functionally diverse but are ubiquitous in the biologically active realm of compounds. We developed bench-stable bifunctional reagents that could then access the sparsely reported γ-amino alcohols directly from feedstock alkenes through energy transfer (EnT) photocatalysis. A designed 1,3-linkage across alkenes is made possible by the intervention of a radical Brook rearrangement that takes place downstream to the EnT-mediated homolysis of our reagent(s). A combination of experimental mechanistic investigations and detailed computational studies (DFT) indicates a radical chain propagated reaction pathway.

Abstract
Alkene aziridination is a highly versatile transformation for the construction of chiral nitrogen-containing compounds. Inspired by the success of analogous substrate-directed epoxidations, we report an enantioselective aziridination of alkenyl alcohols, which enables asymmetric nitrene transfer to alkenes with varied substitution patterns, including those not covered by the current protocols. We believe that our method is effective because it is substrate-directed, exploiting a network of attractive non-covalent interactions between the substrate, an achiral dianionic rhodium(II,II) tetracarboxylate dimer, and its two associated cinchona alkaloid-derived cations. It is these cations that provide a defined chiral pocket in which the aziridination can occur. In addition to a thorough evaluation of compatible alkene classes, we advance a practical mnemonic to predict reaction outcome and disclose a range of post-functionalization protocols that highlight the unique synthetic potential of the enantioenriched aziridine-alcohol products.

Abstract
We present a unique strategy for the synthesis of vicinal amino alcohols. Ring opening of aziridines with pendant silanols is compatible with a range of substrates. To engage productively in ring opening, the aziridine must be at least mildly activated, and a variety of such N-substituents are tolerated. The utility of this methodology is highlighted in facile preparations of the natural products (±)-Clavaminol H, (±)-dihydrosphingosine, and (±)-N-hexanoyldihydrosphingosine as well as a natural product analogue (±)-des-acetyl-Clavaminol H.

Abstract
The coordinatively unsaturated sites (CUS) are vital in metal-centered catalysis. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) provide a unique opportunity to generate and stabilize CUS due to their robust structure. Generally, the generation of CUS in MOFs needs prior activation under heat and high vacuum to remove labile molecules occupying the catalytic sites. Herein, we report a solvothermal synthesis of a ready-to-use copper MOF containing accessible pre-existing CUS that does not need activation. The single crystal X-ray diffraction structure reveals a square planar Cu(II) center with two N-methylimidazoles (Mim) and one benzenedicarboxylic acid (BDC) with the formula unit [CuII(BDC)(Mim)2]n (Cu-1D) forming an infinite one-dimensional (1D) chain along the c axis. The 1D chains are stabilized by noncovalent π-π, CH···π, and H-bonding interaction to give 2D (sheet-like) and 3D networks in the solid state. The quantification of non-covalent interaction is studied by Hirshfeld surface analysis, and the formation of a higher architecture in the solid state is confirmed by SEM analysis. The reported Cu-1D MOF acts as a solid heterogeneous catalyst and exhibits efficient catalytic activity in intermolecular and intramolecular cross-coupling reactions. Intermolecular C-heteroatom cross-coupling of a variety of N-heterocycles, aliphatic, aromatic, alicyclic amines and amides (C-N), phenols (C-O), and thiols (C-S) with aryl halides (halide = I, Br) was achieved with 70 to 95% yield, better than the state-of-the-art Cu-based homogenous system. The C-N coupling catalytic cycle is initiated by the in situ reduction of Cu(II) by KOH/DMSO to Cu(I) species. Subsequently, Cu(I) undergoes oxidative addition followed by reductive elimination to form a cross-coupled product. High stereoselectivity was found for the intramolecular C-N coupling reaction to give tetrahydroquinoxalines with an enantiomeric excess (ee) of more than 99%. For a broader application, Cu-1D was applied as the catalyst for the synthesis of a library of aziridines that gives yields of up to 99% with more than 93% recyclability for each cycle.
