Abstract
The synthesis of amides holds great promise owing to their impeccable contributions as building blocks for highly valued functional derivatives. Herein, we disclose the design, synthesis and crystal structure of a mixed-ligand ruthenium(II) complex, [Ru(η6-Cym)(O,O-PLY)Cl], (1) where Cym = 1-isopropyl-4-methyl-benzene and O,O-PLY = deprotonated form of 9-hydroxy phenalenone (HO,O-PLY). The complex catalyzes the aerobic oxidation of various primary amines (RCH2NH2) to value-added amides (RCONH2) with excellent selectivity and efficiency under relatively mild conditions with common organic functional group tolerance. Structural, electrochemical, spectroscopic, and computational studies substantiate that the synergism between the redox-active ruthenium and π-Lewis acidic PLY moieties facilitate the catalytic oxidation of amines to amides. Additionally, the isolation and characterization of key intermediates during catalysis confirm two successive dehydrogenation steps leading to nitrile, which subsequently transform to the desired amide through hydration. The present synthetic approach is also extended to substitution-dependent tuning at PLY to tune the electronic nature of 1 and to assess substituent-mediated catalytic performance. The effect of substitution at the PLY moiety (5th position) leads to structural isomers, which were further evaluated for the catalytic transformations of amine to amides under similar reaction conditions.

Abstract
The C-N bond cleavage represents one kind of important organic and biochemical transformation, which has attracted great interest in recent years. The oxidative cleavage of C-N bonds in N,N-dialkylamines into N-alkylamines has been well documented, but it is challenging in the further oxidative cleavage of C-N bonds in N-alkylamines into primary amines due to the thermally unfavorable release of α-position H from N-Cα-H and the paralleling side reactions. Herein, a biomass-derived single Zn atom catalyst (ZnN4-SAC) was discovered to be a robust heterogeneous non-noble catalyst for the oxidative cleavage of C-N bonds in N-alkylamines with O2 molecules. Experimental results and DFT calculation revealed that ZnN4-SAC not only activates O2 to generate superoxide radicals (·O2 -) for the oxidation of N-alkylamines to generate imine intermediates (C=N), but the single Zn atoms also served as the Lewis acid sites to promote the cleavage of C=N bonds in imine intermediates, including the first addition of H2O to generate α-hydroxylamine intermediates and the following C-N bond cleavage via a H atom transfer process.

Abstract
Azithromycin (AM) detection has become of great interest as being one of the prescribed medicines in the medication protocol in Egypt for the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Herein, a carbon paste electrode (CPE) was simply amended with fumed silica (FS) for determining AM. The characterization of the new material was done by different techniques including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The newly modified fumed silica carbon paste electrode (FSCPE) exhibited a highly sensitive response towards the oxidation of 1.0 mM AM in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) for a pH range of 5.0 - 10.0. The effect of varying AM concentrations was studied in PBS of pH 7.4 with a detection limit of 11 µM and a quantification limit of 37 µM. Eventually, the recently amended electrode attained reasonable sensitivity and constancy for AM detection in actual trials like blood plasma and pharmaceutical drugs.

Abstract
Direct oxidation of α-CH2 group of free amines is hard to achieve due to the higher reactivity of amine moiety. Therefore, oxidation of amines involves the use of sophisticated metallic reagents/catalyst in the presence or absence of hazardous oxidants under sensitive reaction conditions. A novel method for direct C-H oxygenation of aliphatic amines through a metal-free activation of molecular oxygen has been developed. Both activated and unactivated free amines were oxygenated efficiently to provide a wide variety of amides (primary, secondary) and lactams under operationally simple conditions without the aid of metallic reagents and toxic oxidants. The method has been applied to the synthesis of highly functionalized amide-containing medicinal drugs, such as O-Me-alibendol and -buclosamide.

Abstract
We report the development of an iron-catalyzed method for the selective oxyfunctionalization of benzylic C(sp(3))-H bonds in aliphatic amine substrates. This transformation is selective for benzylic C-H bonds that are remote (i.e., at least three carbons) from the amine functional group. High site selectivity is achieved by in situ protonation of the amine with trifluoroacetic acid, which deactivates more traditionally reactive C-H sites that are α to nitrogen. The scope and synthetic utility of this method are demonstrated via the synthesis and derivatization of a variety of amine-containing, biologically active molecules.

Abstract
De novo syntheses of amides often generate stoichiometric amounts of waste. Thus, recent progress in the field has focused on precious metal catalyzed, oxidative protocols to generate such functionalities. However, simple tertiary alkyl amines cannot be used as starting materials in these protocols. The research described herein enables the oxidative synthesis of amides from simple, noncyclic tertiary alkyl amines under synthetically useful, mild conditions through a biologically inspired approach: Fe-catalyzed Cα-H functionalization. Mechanistic investigations provide insight into reaction intermediates and allow the development of a mild Cα-H cyanation method using the same catalyst system. The protocol was further applied to oxidize the drug Lidocaine, demonstrating the potential utility of the developed chemistry for metabolite synthesis.

Abstract
The mechanism of the unique lactam formation from amines and water with concomitant H2 liberation with no added oxidant, catalyzed by a well-defined acridine-based ruthenium pincer complex was investigated in detail by both experiment and DFT calculations. The results show that a dearomatized form of the initial complex is the active catalyst. Furthermore, reversible imine formation was shown to be part of the catalytic cycle. Water is not only the oxygen atom source but also acts as a cocatalyst for the H2 liberation, enabled by conformational flexibility of the acridine-based pincer ligand.

Abstract
Direct conversion of cyclic amines to lactams utilizing water as the only reagent is catalyzed by pincer complex 2. In contrast to previously known methods of amine-to-amide conversion, this reaction occurs in the absence of oxidants and is accompanied by liberation of H2, with water serving as a source of oxygen atom. Formation of a cyclic hemiaminal intermediate plays a key role in enabling such reactivity. This represents an unprecedented, conceptually new type of amide formation reaction directly from amines and water under oxidant-free conditions.

Abstract
Using density functional theory calculations, we report on the adsorption of methylamine on gold and compare its adsorption to a selection of alkylamines, methanol and methanethiol. On the (111) surface, the amines, thiol and alcohol bind in the ontop site with a preference over hollow and bridge sites of 0.3 eV, 0.2 eV and 0.1 eV for methylamine, methanethiol and methanol, respectively. The effect of steps is considered on the (211) surface of gold and we find that methylamine adsorbs 0.2 eV more strongly in the step ontop site of the surface than on the (111) surface. For oxygen atom pre-coverages of 0.04-0.25 ML on the (111) surface, we find cooperative adsorption of amines and oxygen atoms. The energetic costs of adsorbate tilt from the surface normal and of rotation about the gold-heteroatom bond are compared among the studied surfaces and conditions.
