Abstract
The perylene derivative 2-(3-perylenyl)-4-methylpyridine (HPerPy) was prepared and used to synthesize [Ag(HPerPy)(PPh3)(OClO3)], with the perylene ligand bonded to the metal centre only by the pyridine nitrogen. The treatment of HPerPy with [Pd(OAc)2] in methanol or acetic acid led to acetate bridged dimers (μ-OOCCH3)2[Pd(PerPy)]2, six-membered or five-membered cycled at the perylenyl fragment. Substitution reactions afforded mononuclear compounds [Pd(PerPy)(acac)] (six-member or five-member cycled) and [Pd(PerPy)(S2COMe)] (six-member or five-member cycled). The reaction of HPerPy with a platinum(ii) fragment led to a five-membered cyclometallated Pt(ii) complex [Pt(PerPy)(acac)]. The oxidative addition with MeI gave the corresponding cyclometallated Pt(iv) compound [Pt(PerPy)(acac)MeI]. X-ray single crystal studies of compounds [Ag(HPerPy)(PPh3)(OClO3)], (μ-OOCCH3)2[Pd(PerPy)]2-five-membered, [Pd(PerPy)(acac)]-six-membered, [Pd(PerPy)(S2COMe)]-five-membered, [Pt(PerPy)(acac)]-five-membered, and [Pt(PerPy)(acac)MeI]-five-membered confirmed the proposed structures. The UV-Vis spectra show one intense absorption with vibronic coupling in the visible region with maxima in the range of 448-519 nm. DFT calculations were carried out for the absorption spectra of the HPerPy molecule and representative complexes [M(PerPy)(acac)] (M: Pd, Pt; five and six-membered isomers) and [Pt(PerPy)(acac)MeI], showing that the lowest energy most intense transition in the complexes corresponds to the HOMO → LUMO transition in the perylene moiety, although affected by the metallacycle size and the metal nature. All the compounds are fluorescent in solution, due to the perylene fragment. The emission spectra display maxima in the range of 468-549 nm, with quantum yields from 1.1 to 82%. The attenuation of the intensity of fluorescence by the presence of heavy atoms and the formation of metallacycles has been experimentally determined and sequenced.

Abstract
New type isomers that differ in metal-metal bond type are isolated. One is the Pt-Hg-Pt complex, which has two metal-metal covalent bonds, Pt-Hg = 2.5459(8) and 2.5483(7) Å, and the other is the Pt→Hg-Pt complex, which has one metal-metal covalent bond, Pt-Hg = 2.5744(6) Å, and one metal-metal dative bond, Pt→Hg = 2.6635(7) Å.

Abstract
In this review, the crystal structures of seventeen heterometallic one-dimensional compounds 1-17 are shown, and their electronic structures are discussed based on the diffuse reflectance spectra and other physical measurements. Compounds 1-17 comprise two kinds of complexes with HOMO-LUMO interactions at σ-type (dz2) orbitals between platinum and heterometal atoms, where two or three kinds of metal are regularly aligned through metal-metal bonds. In [{PtRh(piam)2(NH3)2Cl2.5}2{Pt2(piam)2(NH3)4}2]n(PF6)6n·2nMeOH·2nH2O (3, piam = pivalamidate), the platinum and rhodium atoms are aligned as -Pt-Rh-Pt-Pt-Pt-Pt-Rh-Pt-Cl- with a mixed valence, where an unpaired electron hops from one Rh atom to another. [{Rh2(O2CCF3)4}{Pt2(piam)2(NH3)4}2]n(CF3CO2)4n·2nEtOH·2nH2O (6) with -Pt-Pt-Rh-Rh-Pt-Pt- alignment has a conduction band (CB) and a valence band (VB) attributed to σ-type orbitals, exhibiting narrower gaps between CB and VB than other analogues. [{Ru2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2(piam)2(NH3)4}2]n(PF6)4n·4nH2O (14) with -Pt-Pt-Ru-Ru-Pt-Pt- and [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2Cu(piam)4(NH3)4}]n(PF6)2n (15) with -Rh-Rh-Pt-Cu-Pt- are paramagnetic chains, where one or two unpaired electrons reside at each metal per repeating unit. Thus, this system is diverse in modulating the electronic structures, band structures and the expected physical properties based on the unique oxidation states and redox properties attributed to the metal-metal interaction.

Abstract
One-dimensional (1-D) chain complexes constructed by metal-metal bonds containing three types of metal species-platinum, rhodium, and copper-have been rationally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analyses and physical measurements. The paddlewheel or lantern type complex, [Rh2(O2CCH3)4] (i.e., [Rh2]), has a vacant σ* orbital which accepts the electrons from the filled dz(2) orbital of cis-[Pt(piam)2(NH3)2]·2H2O (1, i.e. [Pt], where piam = pivalamidate) to afford a tetranuclear complex, [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt(piam)2(NH3)2}2]·2H2O (2). Compound 2 forms a linear alignment as [Pt]-[Rh2]-[Pt] with unbridged Rh-Pt bonds, where the oxygen atoms of the piam ligands in the [Pt] are noncoordinated, showing the capability of binding another metal ion. Simply mixing [Rh2] and the heterometallic trinuclear complex [Pt2Cu(piam)4(NH3)4](PF6)2 (3, i.e. [Pt-Cu-Pt]) in a ratio of 1:1 in MeOH, EtOH, or Me2CO affords [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2Cu(piam)4(NH3)4}]n(PF6)2n (4), [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2Cu(piam)4(NH3)4}]n(PF6)2n (5), or [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2Cu(piam)4(NH3)4}]n(PF6)2n·6nMe2CO (6), respectively. Compounds 4-6 form infinite chains with the repetition of -{[Rh2]-[Pt-Cu-Pt]}n-, which to our knowledge, are the first examples of heterometallic 1-D chains comprised of three types of metal species with direct metal-metal bonds. The CF3CO2(-), ClO4(-), and water molecules influence the crystal packing to form an octanuclear complex of [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2Cu(piam)4(NH3)4}2](CF3CO2)2(ClO4)2·2H2O (7) with [Pt-Cu-Pt]-[Rh2]-[Pt-Cu-Pt] alignment. Considering the crystal structures and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) measurements in 4-7, the oxidation states of the metal atoms are -{[Rh2(II,II)]-[Pt(II)-Cu(II)-Pt(II)]}n- or [Pt(II)-Cu(II)-Pt(II)]-[Rh2(II,II)]-[Pt(II)-Cu(II)-Pt(II)], which are unchanged from those in the starting compounds. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of 4-7 show axially symmetric spectra with g∥ > g⊥, indicating that the HOMO (SOMO) is a Cu d(x(2)-y(2)) orbital. In 7, the hyperfine coupling in the spectrum indicates that the unpaired spin on Cu is perturbed by the Pt atoms.

Abstract
Seven Pt-Ag coordination polymers [Pt(NH3)2(NHCO(t)Bu)2Ag(H2O)](ClO4) (1), [Pt2(dap)2(NHCO(t)Bu)4Ag2(NO3)(ClO4)] (dap = 1,2-diaminopropane, 2), [Pt2(en)2(NHCO(t)Bu)4Ag2(m-C6H4(CO2)2)].3H2O (en = ethylenediamine, 3), [Pt2(NH3)2(NHCO(t)Bu)2Ag2(p-C6H4(CO2)2)].2H2O (4), [Pt3(en)3(NHCO(t)Bu)6Ag2(p-C6H4(CO2)2)(1.5)].6H2O (5), [Pt(NH3)2(NHCO(t)Bu)4Ag(4-C5H4NCO2)2].10H2O (6), and [Pt2(en)2(NHCO(t)Bu)4Ag2(4-C5H4NCO2)](ClO4) (7) were synthesized from the corresponding [Pt(RNH2)2(NHCO(t)Bu)2] and Ag salts, respectively, and their structures were determined by X-ray crystallography. The Pt and Ag units aggregate into one-dimensional chains based on Pt-Ag backbones. Compounds 1, 2, and 6 possess an extended zigzag Pt-Ag chain motif, and the metallic chains arrange in a parallel fashion into layered structures. Compounds 3-5, and 7 form 2-D brick wall sheets due to the coordination of the bifunctional anions to the Ag+ ions of the neighboring chains. These polymers are constructed based on the Pt-Ag interactions and the coordination of amidate oxygen atoms to Ag ions. There are three kinds of short Pt-Ag bonds observed in the structures of these compounds. The Pt-Ag metallic backbone is formed by the stacking unsupported Pt-Ag bonds, the amidate doubly bridged Pt-Ag bonds, and the amidate singly bridged Pt-Ag bonds. In the chains, the Pt-Ag bond distances are quite short, and appear in the range of 2.78-2.97 A, which are comparable to known Pt-Ag dative bonds.

Abstract
The monohapto neutral 2-(diphenylphosphino)aniline (PNH(2)) complexes [Au(C(6)F(5))(2)X(PNH(2))] (X = C(6)F(5) (1), Cl (2)) have been obtained from [Au(C(6)F(5))(3)(tht)] or [Au(C(6)F(5))(2)(micro-Cl)](2) and PNH(2), and the cationic [Au(C(6)F(5))(2)(PNH(2))]ClO(4) (3) has been similarly prepared from [Au(C(6)F(5))(2)(OEt(2))(2)]ClO(4) and PNH(2) or from 2 and AgClO(4). The neutral amido complex [Au(C(6)F(5))(2)(PNH)] (4) can be obtained by deprotonation of 3 with PPN(acac) (acac = acetylacetonate) or by treatment of the chloro complex 2 with Tl(acac). It reacts with [Ag(OClO(3))(PPh(3))] or [Au(OClO(3))(PPh(3))] to give the dinuclear species [Au(C(6)F(5))(2)[PNH(MPPh(3))]]ClO(4) (M = Ag (5), Au (6)). The latter can also be obtained by reaction of equimolar amounts of 3 and [Au(acac)(PPh(3))]; when the molar ratio of the same reagents is 1:2, the trinuclear cationic complex [Au(C(6)F(5))(2)[PN(AuPPh(3))(2)]]ClO(4) (7) is obtained. The crystal structures of complexes 2-4 and 7 have been established by X-ray crystallography; the last-mentioned displays an unusual Au(I)-Au(III) interaction.

Abstract
By reaction of [NBu(4)](2)[Pt(2)(&mgr;-C(6)F(5))(2)(C(6)F(5))(4)] with 1,8-naphthyridine (napy), [NBu(4)][Pt(C(6)F(5))(3)(napy)] (1) is obtained. This compound reacts with cis-[Pt(C(6)F(5))(2)(THF)(2)] to give the dinuclear derivative [NBu(4)][Pt(2)(&mgr;-napy)(&mgr;-C(6)F(5))(C(6)F(5))(4)] (2). The reaction of several HX species with 2 results in the substitution of the bridging C(6)F(5) by other ligands (X) such as OH (3), Cl (4), Br (5), I (6), and SPh (7), maintaining in all cases the naphthyridine bridging ligand. The structure of 3 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/n, with a = 12.022(2) Å, b = 16.677(3) Å, c = 27.154(5) Å, beta = 98.58(3) degrees, V = 5383.2(16) Å(3), and Z = 4. The structure was refined to residuals of R = 0.0488 and R(w) = 0.0547. The complex consists of two square-planar platinum(II) fragments sharing a naphthyridine and OH bridging ligands, which are in cis positions. The short Pt-Pt distance [3.008(1) Å] seems to be a consequence of the bridging ligands.
