Halogenodisilanes: precursors for new disilane derivatives

Synthesis and Characterization of Ge(II), Sn(II), and Pb(II) Monoamides with −NH2 Ligands

The synthesis and characterization of the first divalent germanium, tin, and lead monoamide derivatives of the parent amide group -NH(2) are presented. They have the general formula (ArMNH(2))(2) (M = Ge, Ar = Ar'(C(6)H(3)-2,6-Pr(i)(2)) or Ar* (C(6)H(3)-2,6(C(6)H(2)-2,4,6-Pr(i)(3))); M = Sn, Ar = Ar*; M = Pb, Ar = Ar*). For germanium and tin, they were obtained by reacting the corresponding terphenyl halides of the group 14 elements with liquid ammonia in diethyl ether. The lead amide derivative (Ar*PbNH(2))(2) was synthesized by reaction of LiNH(2) with Ar*PbBr in diethyl ether. The compounds were characterized by IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopies and by X-ray crystallography in the case of the (Ar'GeNH(2))(2) or (Ar*SnNH(2))(2) derivatives. They possess dimeric structures with two -NH(2) groups bridging the germanium and tin centers. For lead, the reaction with ammonia led to isolation of a stable ammine complex of formula Ar*PbBr(NH(3)) which was characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopies and by X-ray crystallography. It is the first structural characterization of a divalent lead ammine complex.

Stereoselective Synthesis of Optically Active Disilanes and Selective Functionalization by the Cleavage of Silicon−Naphthyl Bonds with Bromine

Optically active disilanes with one chiral silicon center, (R)-1,2-dimethyl-1-(naphth-1-yl)-1,2,2-triphenyldisilane and (R)-1,2,2-trimethyl-2-(4-methoxynaphth-1-yl)-1-(naphth-1-yl)-1-phenyldisilane, were obtained by the reaction of (S)-methyl(naphth-1-yl)phenylchlorosilane (> 99% ee) with methyldiphenylsilyllithium or by the reaction of methyldiphenylchlorosilane with optically active (S)-methyl(naphth-1-yl)phenylsilyllithium and by the reaction of (S)-methyl(naphth-1-yl)phenylchlorosilane (> 99% ee) with dimethyl(4-methoxynaphth-1-yl)silyllithium. Under the optimized conditions, the reactions proceeded with almost complete inversion for the cholorosilanes and retention for the silyl anions. Optically active disilanes with two chiral centers, (1R,2R)-1,2-dimethyl-1,2-di(naphth-1-yl)-1,2-diphenyldisilane and (1S,2S)-1,2-di(4-methoxynaphth-1-yl)-1,2-dimethyl-1,2-diphenyldisilane, were obtained in high optical purity by the reactions of corresponding optically active halogenosilanes (Cl or F) with optically active silyllithiums. The silicon-silicon bond and the silicon-naphthyl bond of (R)-1,1,2-trimethyl-1,2-di(naphth-1-yl)-2-phenyldisilane and (1R,2R)-1,2-dimethyl-1,2-di(naphth-1-yl)-1,2-diphenyldisilane were cleaved without selectivity on bromination. The silicon-(4-methoxynaphth-1-yl) bond of (R)-1,2,2-trimethyl-2-(4-methoxynaphth-1-yl)-1-(naphth-1-yl)-1-phenyldisilane was regiospecifically cleaved, followed by the stereoselective cleavage of the remaining chiral silicon-naphthyl bond (94% inversion). Although the silicon-(4-methoxynaphth-1-yl) bonds of (1S,2S)-1,2-di(4-methoxynaphth-1-yl)-1,2-dimethyl-1,2-diphenyldisilane (> 99% ee) were regioselectively cleaved without silicon-silicon bond scission, remarkable racemization could not be avoided during the one-pot reaction.

Synthesis, characterization, and polycondensation of new stable α,ω-organo(bis-silanediols)

The synthesis and characterization of stable bis(dihydroxymethylsilyl) derivatives are described. These compounds were obtained as microcrystalline powders by controlled hydrolysis in a biphasic medium (ethyl ether – water) of the corresponding bis(dimethoxymethylsilyl) organic precursors containing phenyl, biphenyl, stilbenyl, diphenyl acetylene, and diphenylbut-1,3-diyne groups. All the solids obtained exhibited a layered structure. Condensation of the bis-silanediols could be effected by fluoride catalysis in solution at ambient temperature or simply by heating in solid state. The polysiloxanes obtained from the bis-silanediols have been compared with those obtained by hydrolysis–polycondensation of the corresponding bis-dimethoxysilanes. The thermal route led to highly polycondensed solids arranged into thin plates as evidenced by TEM analysis; furthermore, in the case of the longer spacer, the organization was controlled by the arrangement of the Si-O-Si layers instead of the spacer. The X-ray study of these materials clearly evidenced the drastic influence of the length of the organic spacer, the polycondensation route and the nature of the leaving group (hydroxy or methoxy) on the short-range organization of the solids. Linear and cyclic polysilanes containing the bis(trimethylsilyl)amino group: synthesis, reactions, and spectroscopic characterization

The reaction of linear (Si(n)Cl(2)(n)(+2); n = 3-5) and cyclic (Si(5)Cl(10)) perchloropolysilanes with 1 or 2 equiv of LiN(SiMe(3))(2) results in the formation of the bis(trimethylsilyl)amino derivatives (Me(3)Si)(2)NSi(3)Cl(7) (1), (Me(3)Si)(2)NSi(4)Cl(9) (2), (Me(3)Si)(2)N(SiCl(2))(n)N(SiMe(3))(2) (n = 3, 4; n = 4, 5; n = 5, 6), cyclo-(Me(3)Si)(2)NSi(5)Cl(9) (7), and cyclo-[(Me(3)Si)(2)N](2)Si(5)Cl(8) (8). 1-8 easily can be hydrogenated with LiAlH(4) to give the corresponding amino and diamino polysilanyl hydrides. The monosubstituted and cyclic compounds 1, 2, 7, and 8 additionally afford Si-Si bond scission products, which cannot be separated in all cases. Chloro- and dichloro derivatives of Si(3)H(8), n-Si(4)H(10), and n-Si(5)H(12) are obtained from the corresponding aminosilanes and dry HCl. All compounds were characterized by standard spectroscopic techniques. For Si-H derivatives the coupled (29)Si NMR spectra were analyzed to obtain an unequivocal structural proof.
