Abstract
Alkylation of the C-terminus acids in small peptides allows direction to amine and amide coordination, while changing the peptide composition to form tetradentate κ4[n,5,5], where n = 5-, 6-, 7-, or 8-membered ring coordination geometries, can be achieved. The alkylated tripeptide ligands, TrpAlaGly(OMe), β-Asp(OtBu)AlaGly(OMe), Asp(OtBu)AlaGly(OMe), and the fully methylated GSH, γ-Glu(OMe)Cys(SMe)Gly(OMe), were synthesized and their coordination properties to [Pd(en)(H2O)2]2+ were studied. pH-dependent coordination was analyzed by NMR spectroscopy and the coordination to the alkylated tripeptides at selected pH values inferred from their NMR spectra. If selective coordination of amine/amide donors results in metal complexation, allowing for flexible and adjustable ligand frameworks, then this strategy could potentially be extended to other metal ions and peptide system.

Abstract
New palladium(II)-phthalimidato complexes have been synthesized, isolated, and structurally characterized. As demonstrated from over 30 examples, they constitute superior catalysts for oxidative amination reactions of alkenes with phthalimide as the nitrogen source. This work streamlines vicinal difunctionalization of alkenes and provides access to significantly improved and experimentally simplified synthetic protocols.

Abstract
The coordination chemistry of short chain peptides with transition metals is described in terms of the available crystal structures. Despite their high interest as synthetic models for metalloproteins and as building blocks for molecular materials based on the tuneable properties of oligopeptides, single crystal X-ray diffraction studies are scarce. A perusal of the most relevant results in this field allows us to define the main characteristics of oligopeptide-metal interactions, the fundamental problems for the crystallization of these complexes, and some hints to identify future promising approaches to advance the development of metallopeptide chemistry.

Abstract
Peptide-protein interactions are important mediators of cellular-signaling events. Consensus binding motifs (also known as short linear motifs) within these contacts underpin molecular recognition, yet have poor pharmacological properties as discrete species. Here, we present methods to transform intact peptides into stable, templated macrocycles. Two simple steps install the template. The key reaction is a palladium-catalyzed macrocyclization. The catalysis has broad scope and efficiently forms large rings by engaging native peptide functionality including phenols, imidazoles, amines, and carboxylic acids without the necessity of protecting groups. The tunable reactivity of the template gives the process special utility. Defined changes in reaction conditions markedly alter chemoselectivity. In all cases examined, cyclization occurs rapidly and in high yield at room temperature, regardless of peptide composition or chain length. We show that conformational restraints imparted by the template stabilize secondary structure and enhance proteolytic stability in vitro. Palladium-catalyzed internal cinnamylation is a strong complement to existing methods for peptide modification.

Abstract
The N- and C-terminal blocked hexapeptide Ac-Leu-Ala-His-Tyr-Asn-Lys-amide (LAHYNK) representing the 80–85 fragment of histone H2B was synthesized and its interactions with Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions were studied by potentiometric, UV-Vis, CD, EPR, and NMR spectroscopic techniques in solution. Our data reveal that the imidazole N(3) nitrogen atom is the primary ligating group for both metal ions. Sequential amide groups deprotonation and subsequent coordination to metal ions indicated an {Nimidazole, 3Namide} coordination mode above pH∼9, in all cases. In the case of Cu(II)-peptide system, the almost exclusive formation of the predominant species CuL in neutral media accounting for almost 98% of the total metal ion concentration at pH 7.3 strongly indicates that at physiological pH values the sequence -LAHYNK- of histone H2B provides very efficient binding sites for metal ions. The imidazole pyrrole N(1) ionization (but not coordination) was also detected in species
CuH−4L present in solution above pH ∼ 11.

Abstract
Palladium(II) complexes of the peptides GlyMet, GlyMetGly and GlyGlyMet containing methionyl residues were studied by potentiometric and 1H NMR spectroscopic methods. The coordination of terminal amino and deprotonated amide nitrogen and thioether sulfur donor atoms was suggested in the mono complexes of GlyMet and GlyMetGly. The fourth coordination site of these complexes can be occupied by solvent molecule, chloride or hydroxide ions or by another ligand molecule in the bis or mixed ligand complexes. The second ligand coordinates monodentately via the thioether function in acidic media and the amino group under neutral or basic conditions. The stoichiometry of the major species formed in the palladium(II)-GlyGlyMet system is [PdH(-2) L]- and this is coordinated by the amino, two-amide and the thioether donor functions. Thioether bridged mixed metal complexes formed in the reaction of [Pd(dien)]2+ and [Cu(GlyMetH(-1))] or [Ni(GlyMetGlyH(-2))]- also have been detected by spectroscopic techniques.

Abstract
cis-Dichloro(d,l-2,3-diaminopropionate ethyl ester)palladium(II), cis-[Pd(Etdap)Cl(2)] (I), and cis-dichloro(d,l-2,4-diaminobutyrate ethyl ester)palladium(II), cis-[Pd(Etdab)Cl(2)] (II), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and TG-DTA thermal analysis. The equilibrium model and log beta(pqr) constants of hydrolytic species of I and II were also investigated by potentiometric methods (I = 0.15 M (NaClO(4)) and 37 degrees C). Aqueous solutions of cis-[Pd(Etdaa)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2) (Etdaa = Etdap (III) or Etdab (IV)) were prepared by stoichiometric reaction of I or II with AgClO(4). Thus, log beta(pqr) of the corresponding cis-aquahydroxo (pqr = 1,0,-1) and di(&mgr;-hydroxo) (pqr = 2,0,-2) species were obtained from E(H(+)) data of alkalimetric titrations of solutions of III or IV. Such constants were then used as fixed values to obtain log beta(pqr)() of chloro-containing species (cis-dichloro (1,2,0), cis-chloroaqua (1,1,0), and cis-chlorohydroxo (1,1,-1)) from E(H(+)) and E(Cl(-)) data pairs simultaneously obtained by titration of solutions of III or IV with NaOH and NaCl. All log beta(pqr) were fitted by the SUPERQUAD program. Appropriate log beta(pqr)() sets give good simulations of experimental titration curves and several species distribution diagrams. In addition the interaction of I and/or II with DNA in vitro and in vivo was studied by various methods. UV spectral data and melting and renaturation curves indicate that both compounds destabilize the DNA helicoidal structure. Compound II disrupts in vivo the structure and transcription process of polytene chromosomes of Drosophila hydei.

Abstract
Cis-Dichloro(diaminosuccinic acid)palladium(II), cis-[Pd(H2dasa)Cl2] (I), or cis-dichloro(diaminosuccinate diethyl ester)palladium(II), cis-[Pd(Et2dasa)Cl2] (II) reacts with two equivalents of AgClO4 to give insoluble Pd(dasa) or an aqueous solution of [Pd(Et2dasa) (H2O)2](ClO4)2, respectively. Three solutions of this salt were titrated with NaOH (I = NaClO4 (0.15M),37 degrees C), and 133 E(H+) data (3.5 < or = pH < or = 7) were treated by SUPERQUAD to fit log beta pqr of cis-aquahydroxo-(pqr = 10-1, -5.25(3)) and di-mu-hydroxo-species (20-2, -6.55(1)). At pH > 7 the ester hydrolysis prevents the calculation of log beta 10-2 for the cis-dihydroxo-complex. Another three solutions of such salt were titrated (I = 0.15M (NaClO4), 37 degrees C) with NaOH and NaCl simultaneously using two potentiometric systems (which measure H+ or Cl-). From 147 E(H+) and E(Cl-) data pairs and the above fixed log beta pqr, SUPERQUAD calculations yield log beta pqr for cis-chloro-aqua (pqr = 110, 3.65(1)), cis-chloro-hydroxo (11-1, -2.68 (4)), and cis-dichloro-species (120, 5.86(3)). Simulated and experimental titrations are in good agreement. Circular dichroism spectra of native DNA and drug:DNA complexes suggest that cis-Pd(H2dasa) and cis-Pd(Et2dasa) chelate moieties induce an opening and rotation of the stacked bases in the double helix. This finding is explained by the abundance of each one and of the total neutral and charged species of II in the tested CD solution.
