Abstract
The coordination compounds featuring a {Cu4O4} core, typically bridged by hydroxo or alkoxo groups, are particularly intriguing due to their notable magnetic properties and catalytic activity. In this study, we explored the synthesis and characterization of four new Schiff base ligands and their subsequent complexation with CuII salts, which resulted in the formation of three tetranuclear complexes: [Cu4(L1)4]·2H2O (1), [Cu4(L2)2(HL2)2](Cl)(NO3)·5H2O (2), and [Cu4(L3)4] (3), as well as one dinuclear complex: [Cu2(L4)2] (4). These tetranuclear complexes all feature a {Cu4O4} core, but with differing coordination environments around the CuII centers. For instance, complex 1 exhibits μ3-phenoxido bridges and a distorted octahedral geometry, while complex 3 features μ3-alkoxido bridges and a square pyramidal geometry. Complex 2 displays an open cubane core with mixed μ2-phenoxido and μ3-alkoxido bridges, with both square planar (CuNO4) and octahedral (CuNO5) geometries. In addition, dinuclear complex 4 was synthesized, featuring square planar CuII centers linked by μ2-alkoxido bridges. The magnetic studies revealed that 1 and 2 exhibit strong antiferromagnetic coupling, which is attributed to their larger Cu-O-Cu bond angles, while complex 3 demonstrates moderate ferromagnetic behavior, associated with smaller bond angles. Literature reports indicate that {Cu4O4} cubane cores generally show ferromagnetic interactions at bond angles near 104°, but in complex 3, we observed moderate ferromagnetic interactions with a Cu-O-Cu bridging angle of 108.41(9)°, making it one of the highest bond angles observed for ferromagnetic interactions in a {Cu4O4} cubane-like system. The planar dinuclear complex 4 exhibits extremely strong antiferromagnetic coupling, which is attributed to the ideal Cu-O-Cu bridging angles and the planar Cu-O-O-Cu core. Additionally, EPR measurements of complex 3 at 4 K reveal a well-isolated S = 2 ground state, separated by a gap of 65.8 cm-1 from the three closest degenerate spin levels (S = 0, 1, and 1). Finally, all four complexes were used as catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of 2-aminophenol, and the mechanism of the oxidation process was elucidated by EPR spectroscopy.

Abstract
Four Pd(II) complexes, (dpk)PdCl2 (complex-1), and (dpk)Pd(OAc)2 (complex-2) have been prepared using di(2-pyridyl) ketone as the chelate ligand (dpk). The (dpk·EtOH)PdCl2 (complex-3) and (dpk·EtOH)Pd(OAc)2 (complex-4) were synthesized by selectively introducing complex-1 and complex-2 to an EtOH in situ nucleophilic addition reaction on the O=C of the dpk ligand, respectively. All complexes were characterized using CHN-EA, UV-vis, FT-IR, FAB-MS, EDX, TGA, and NMR physicochemical tools. The XRD-crystallography technique was employed to ascertain the structure of complex-3. The analysis revealed a monoclinic/P21/c crystal system characterized by a square planar structure oriented in the cis direction around the Pd center. Several C-H···Cl and O-H···O H-bonds constructing 2D-S12 and S7 synthons were confirmed via XRD/HSA interactions. The influence of EtOH addition to the O=C group of dpk in (dpk)PdCl2 was documented by using UV-vis/FT-IR spectra and TGA analysis. As catalysts, all complexes have demonstrated a notable catalytic function in the Heck reaction, resulting in a high yield under gentle conditions using iodobenzene and methyl acrylate as model reactions. Moreover, the complex-1 and complex-3 docking activity was evaluated against 1BNA-DNA.

Diversity of Coordination Modes in a Flexible Ditopic Ligand Containing 2-Pyridyl, Carbonyl and Hydrazone Functionalities: Mononuclear and Dinuclear Cobalt(III) Complexes, and Tetranuclear Copper(II) and Nickel(II) Clusters. Abstract
Syntheses, crystal structures and characterization are reported for four new complexes [Cu4Br2(L)4]Br2 (1), [Ni4(NO3)2(L)4(H2O)](NO3)2 (2), [Co2(L)3](ClO4)3 (3) and [Co(L)2](ClO4) (4), where L− is the monoanion of the ditopic ligand N′-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)pyridine-2-carbohydrazide (LH) built on a picolinoyl hydrazone core fragment, and possessing a bidentate and a tridentate coordination pocket. The tetranuclear cation of 1·0.8H2O·MeOH is a strictly planar, rectangular [2 × 2] grid. Two 2.21011 L− ligands bridge adjacent CuII atoms on the short sides of the rectangle through their alkoxide oxygen atoms, and two 2.11111 ligands bridge adjacent CuII atoms on the long sides of the rectangle through their diazine groups; two metal ions are 5-coordinate and two are 6-coordinate. The tetranuclear cation of 2·0.2H2O·3EtOH is a square [2 × 2] grid. The two 6-coordinate NiII atoms of each side of the square are bridged by the alkoxide O atom of one 2.21011 L− ligand. The dinuclear cation of 3·0.8H2O·1.3MeOH contains two low-spin octahedral CoIII ions bridged by three 2.01111 L− ligands forming a pseudo triple helicate. In the mononuclear cation [Co(L)2]+ of complex 4, the low-spin octahedral CoIII center is coordinated by two tridentate chelating, meridional 1.10011 ligands. The crystal structures of the complexes are stabilized by a variety of π–π stacking and/or H-bonding interactions. Compounds 2, 3 and 4 are the first structurally characterized nickel and cobalt complexes of any form (neutral or anionic) of LH. The 2.01111 and 1.10011 coordination modes of L−, observed in the structures of complexes 3 and 4, have been crystallographically established for the first time in coordination complexes containing this anionic ligand. Variable-temperature, solid-state dc magnetic susceptibility and variable-field magnetization studies at 1.8 K were carried out on complexes 1 and 2. Antiferromagnetic metal ion···metal ion exchange interactions are present in both complexes. The study reveals that the cation of 1 can be considered as a practically isolated pair of strongly antiferromagnetically coupled (through the diazine group of L−) dinulear units. The susceptibility data for 2 were fit to a single-J model for an S = 1 cyclic tetramer. The values of the J parameters have been rationalized in terms of known magnetostructural correlations. Spectral data (infrared (IR), ultraviolet/visible (UV/VIS), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for the diamagnetic complexes) are also discussed in the light of the structural features of 1–4 and the coordination modes of the organic and inorganic ligands that are present in the complexes. The combined work demonstrates the ligating flexibility of L−, and its usefulness in the synthesis of complexes with interesting structures and properties.

Modeling the Solvent Extraction of Cadmium(II) from Aqueous Chloride Solutions by 2-pyridyl Ketoximes: A Coordination Chemistry Approach. Molecules 2019; 24:molecules24122219. Abstract
The goal of this work is to model the nature of the chemical species [CdCl2(extractant)2] that are formed during the solvent (or liquid-liquid) extraction of the toxic cadmium(II) from chloride-containing aqueous media using hydrophobic 2-pyridyl ketoximes as extractants. Our coordination chemistry approach involves the study of the reactions between cadmium(II) chloride dihydrate and phenyl 2-pyridyl ketoxime (phpaoH) in water-containing acetone. The reactions have provided access to complexes [CdCl2(phpaoH)2]∙H2O (1∙H2O) and {[CdCl2(phpaoH)]}n (2); the solid-state structures of which have been determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. In both complexes, phpaoH behaves as an N,N'-bidentate chelating ligand. The complexes have been characterized by solid-state IR and Raman spectra, and by solution 1H NMR spectra. The preparation and characterization of 1∙H2O provide strong evidence for the existence of the species [CdCl2(extractant)2] that have been proposed to be formed during the liquid-liquid extraction process of Cd(II), allowing the efficient transfer of the toxic metal ion from the aqueous phase into the organic phase.

Abstract
Four tetrameric nickel(II) pseudohalide complexes have been synthesized and structurally, spectroscopically, and magnetically characterized. Compounds 1-3 are isostructural and exhibit the general formula [Ni(2)(dpk·OH)(dpk·CH(3)O)(L)(H(2)O)](2)A(2)·2H(2)O, where dpk = di-2-pyridylketone; L = N(3)(-), and A = ClO(4)(-) for 1, L = NCO(-) and A = ClO(4)(-) for 2, and L = NCO(-) and A = NO(3)(-) for 3. The formula for 4 is [Ni(4)(dpk·OH)(3) (dpk·CH(3)O)(2)(NCO)](BF(4))(2)·3H(2)O. The ligands dpk·OH(-) and dpk·CH(3)O(-) result from solvolysis and ulterior deprotonation of dpk in water and methanol, respectively. The four tetramers exhibit a dicubane-like core with two missing vertexes where the Ni(II) ions are connected through end-on pseudohalide and oxo bridges. Magnetic measurements showed that compounds 1-4 are ferromagnetic. The values of the exchange constants were determined by means of a theoretical model based on three different types of coupling. Thus, the calculated J values (J(1) = J(2), J(3), and D) were 5.6, 11.8, and 5.6 cm(-1) for 1, 5.5, 12.0, and 5.6 cm(-1) for 2, 6.3, 4.9, and 6.2 cm(-1) for 3, and (J(1), J(2), J(3), and D) 6.9, 7.0, 15.2, and 4.8 cm(-1) for 4.

Abstract
The title complex, [Cu(C11H10N2O2)2](BF4)2·2H2O, was isolated as a dihydrate from a 1:2 molar mixture of copper(II) tetrafluoridoborate hexahydrate with di-2-pyridyl ketone in aqueous solution. The centrosymmetric complex cation is structurally similar to that found in previously reported salts and exhibits Cu—O bonds deviating by 25 degrees from an octahedral geometry by the so-called ‘off-axis angle’ distortion. The BF4− anion exhibits a two site disorder of the fluorine atoms [ratio 0.210 (8):0.790 (8)].

Abstract
A series of metal complexes were achieved from the metal-assisted solvolysis reaction of di-pyridylketone azine (dpka). The tetranuclear nickel cluster , [Ni(2)[dpk(O)(OH)][dpk(O)(OCH(3))](N(3))(2)](2), is centrosymmetric with a central core described as an edge-shared triangle core. Neighboring Ni(II) ions are alternately bridged by (micro(2)-N(3), micro(3)-O) and (micro(2)-O, micro(3)-O) double bridges. Complex , [Cu(4)[dpk(O)(OCH(3))](4)(N(3))(2)](CuCl(2))(2) contains a tetranuclear cluster and two identical [CuCl(2)]M(-) anions. The tetranuclear structure has two crystallographically imposed twofold axes, in which the four copper ions are arranged to be rhombic shape. The neighboring copper(ii) ions along the lateral are bridged by single micro(2)-O from the ligand dpk(O)(OCH(3)) and the short diagonal copper ions are bridged by two symmetric end-on azides. In dinuclear Cu(ii) complex [Cu(2)[dpka(OCH(2)CH(3))]Cl(2)](ClO(4)) (3), the metal centers are coordinated in a planar configuration and bridged by a -N-N- bridge. It is also observed that the Cl atom coordinated to one Cu(II) center is also weakly coordinated to another inversion related Cu(II) to generate a centrosymmetric dimer. The metal centers in one-dimensional polymeric Cu(ii) complex [Cu(2)[dpka(OCH(3))](N(3))(2)(ClO(4))](n) (4), however, are bridged by a -N-N- bridge and an end-to-end azide bridge, alternately. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate that shows ferromagnetic interaction within the tetranuclear cluster, and that displays moderately strong antiferromagnetic interaction (J = -56.7 cm(-1)) for the bis(micro-N(3)) bridge. For compound , it shows strong antiferromagnetic coupling (J = -286 cm(-1)) between the intradinuclear Cu(II) ions mediated by the single N-N bridge and negligible magnetic interactions between the adjacent dinuclear Cu(II) ions mediated by the single end-to-end azide bridge. The mechanism of the metal-assisted solvolysis reaction was also discussed.

Abstract
Two different one pot routes to a variety of metal cubane compounds are reported; one route is based on an in situ benzilic acid type rearrangement and the other involves in situ nucleophilic attack at a ketone. Diketosuccinic acid in basic solution in the presence of certain divalent metal ions undergoes a benzilic acid type rearrangement to generate the carbon oxyanion, C(CO(2) (-))(3)O(-), which serves as a cubane-forming bridging ligand in a series of octanuclear complexes of composition [M(8){C(CO(2))(3)O}(4)](H(2)O)(12) (M=Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn). At the heart of each of these highly symmetrical aggregates is an M(4)O(4) cubane core, each oxygen component of which is provided by the alkoxo centre of a C(CO(2) (-))(3)O(-) ligand. Reaction of 2,2'-pyridil, (2-C(5)H(4)N)COCO(2-C(5)H(4)N), and calcium nitrate in basic alcoholic solution, which proceeds by a similar benzilic acid type rearrangement, gives the cubane compounds, [Ca(4)L(4)(NO(3))(4)] in which L=(2-C(5)H(4)N)(2)C(COOR)O(-) (R=Me or Et). Nucleophilic attack by bisulfite ion at the carbonyl carbon atom of 2,2'-dipyridyl ketone in the presence of certain divalent metals generates the electrically neutral complexes, [{(C(5)H(4)N)(2)SO(3)C(OH)}(2)M] (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn and Cd). Cubane-like complexes [M(4){(C(5)H(4)N)(2)SO(3)C(O)}(4)] (M=Zn, Mn) can be obtained directly from 2,2'-dipyridyl ketone in one-pot reaction systems (sealed tube, 120 degrees C) if a base as weak as acetate ion is present to deprotonate the OH group of the initial [(C(5)H(4)N)(2)SO(3)C(OH)](-) bisulfite addition compound; the [(C(5)H(4)N)(2)SO(3)C(O)](2-) ligand in this case plays the same cubane-forming role as the ligands C(COO(-))(3)O(-) and (2-C(5)H(4)N)(2)C(COOR)O(-) above. When excess sodium sulfite is used in similar one-pot reaction mixtures, the monoanionic complexes, [M(3)Na{(C(5)H(4)N)(2)SO(3)C(O)}(4)](-) (M=Zn, Mn, Co) with an M(3)NaO(4) cubane core, are formed directly from 2,2'-dipyridyl ketone.
