A New Transition Metal-Main Group Oxide Cluster in the Oxovanadium-Borate System: Hydrothermal Synthesis and Structure of (H(3)O)(12)[(VO)(12){B(16)O(32)(OH)(4)}(2)].28H(2)O

A highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for selective oxidation of sulfides derived from an open-framework copper borovanadate containing a unique crown-shaped anion

A novel 3D open-framework copper borovanadate with a unique crown-shaped anion [(V^IVO)₈(V^VO)₄B₃₂O₆₄(OH)₈]^12- and the largest ratio of Cu²⁺/borovanadate anions (6/1) has been successfully synthesized and systematically studied. The compound not only possesses high stability in a wide pH range of 3.2-10.8 (DMF solution), but also exhibits excellent catalytic activities for selective oxidation of sulfides.

Vanadoborates: cluster-based architectures, preparation and properties

The different connections of [VO_x] (x = 4, 5, 6) and [AO_x] (A = B, x = 3, 4; A = P, x = 4) polyhedral units ultimately result in a fascinating variety of vanadoborate anionic clusters.

Study on the source of magnetic properties of three novel boratopolyoxovanadates via two-dimensional infrared correlation spectroscopy

Three novel polyoxovanadoborates namely [V₁₂B₁₈O₄₆(OH)₁₄(H₂O)_0.75]·20.5H₂O 1, Na₂[V₁₂B₁₈O₄₈(OH)₁₂(H₂O)_0.5]·26.5H₂O 2 and Cd_0.5{[Na(H₂O)₂]2[Na(H₂O)]₂[Na(H₂O)₃]2V₁₂B₁₈O₅₃(OH)₇(H₂O)_0.5}·11H₂O 3 have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The boratopolyoxovanadate cage [V₁₂B₁₈O₆₀] backbones in 1-3 are constructed by the combination of two hexameric oxovanadate units [V₆O₉] and one puckered [B₁₈O₄₂] ring via sharing O atoms. All three compounds were obtained under alkaline conditions, and the cluster anions were all [V₁₂B₁₈O₆₀]. But the cations were different, it is inferred that the protonation of the three compound cluster ions is different, respectively [V₁₂B₁₈O₄₆(OH)₁₄(H₂O)_0.75] in 1, [V₁₂B₁₈O₄₈(OH)₁₂(H₂O)_0.5]^2- in 2 and [V₁₂B₁₈O₅₃(OH)₇(H₂O)_0.5]^7- in 3. The V oxidation states ratio of V^IV to V^V were 2:1 confirmed by valence bond calculation and XPS. We studied the magnetic properties of three compounds by two methods: The variable temperature magnetic susceptibility and the 2D IR COS under magnetic perturbation. From the 2D IR COS under magnetic perturbation map, it is showed that all three: (1) the presence of V^IV. (2) Certain quasi-aromaticity from B₃O₃ six-membered ring. (3) The difference of protonation and the charge of the cluster anions. This work enriches the theory of two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy and also provides a new approach to the study of magnetic materials.

A New 3-D Open-Framework Zinc Borovanadate with Catalytic Potentials in α-Phenethyl Alcohol Oxidation

A novel 3-D open-framework zinc borovanadate [Zn₆(en)₃][(V^IVO)₆(V^VO)₆O₆(B₁₈O₃₆(OH)₆)·(H₂O)]₂·14H₂O (1, en = ethylenediamine) was hydrothermally obtained and structurally characterized. The framework was built from [V₁₂B₁₈O₅₄(OH)₆(H₂O)]¹⁰⁻ polyanion clusters bridged by Zn(en) complex fragments. The compound not only possessed a three-dimensional open-framework structure with unique plane-shaped channels, but also exhibited excellent catalytic activities for the oxidation of α-phenethyl alcohol.

N→Sn-Coordinated Stannaoxidoborates Containing a SnB4O6 Unit

We report here the synthesis of new N→Sn-coordinated stannaoxidoborates H[LSnB4O6R4] {L = [2,6-(Me2NCH2)C6H3](-) and R = Ph (6), 4-Br-Ph (7), 3,5-(CF3)2-Ph (8), and 4-CHO-Ph (9)} containing a nonsymmetric SnB4O6 unit. Compounds 6-9 represent new derivatives of the pentaborates [B5O6R4](-) in which the central boron is substituted by a tin atom. Compounds 6-9 were characterized by means of elemental analysis, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and NMR spectroscopy and in the case of 6-8 also by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structures of N→Sn-coordinated stannaoxidoborates 6-8 consist of a spirobicyclic arrangement, with two six-membered SnB2O3 rings at the tin atom providing the new stannaoxidoborate [LSnB4O6R4](-) motif, which is compensated for by the proton atom coordinated to the Me2N group of the ligand L. The linear and thermal properties of 6-9 were studied with the help of electronic absorption spectra and differential scanning calorimetry. In addition, the presence of the nonsymmetric stannaoxidoborate SnB4O6 unit in 6, 7, and 9 prompted us to investigate their second-order nonlinear-optical properties.

A new family of anionic organic-inorganic hybrid doughnut-like nanostructures

A family of soluble organic-inorganic hybrid doughnut-like anions, hydoughnuts, has been prepared by the self-assembly of polyoxovanadate anions and 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate (bdc) linkers. Derivatives of the parent hydoughnut, [(V4O8Cl)4(bdc)8](4-), can be obtained by changing the counter-ion or by using a variant of bdc.

Layered V-B-O polyoxometalate nets linked by diethylenetriamine complexes with dangling amine groups

Two layered V-B-O contained polyoxometalate (POM) net structures, denoted as SUT-12 and SUT-13, are reported here. SUT-12 was synthesized by the boric acid flux method, and it represents the first 2D structure constructed from the V6B20 vanadoborate cluster. SUT-13 was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and constructed from V12B6P12 vanadium borophosphate clusters. In both structures, the vanadoborate or vanadium borophosphate clusters were linked through in situ formed Zn(DETA)2 or Cu(DETA)2 complexes. Surprisingly, for all DETA molecules in the two metal complexes, there is one dangling amine group when it is coordinated to the metal. The phenomenon of the dangling amine group feature is abnormal and the Cu(DETA)2 complexes in SUT-13 were taken as an example and studied by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations in order to understand this unusual feature.

A pillared–layered zincoborate with an anionic network containing unprecedented zinc oxide chains

The first pillared–layered 3D zincoborate framework built by Zn–O–B networks and 1,6-diaminohexane pillars, in which the {Zn₂} and {Zn₆} clusters linked alternately to form zigzag chains and joined by BO₃ units, resulting in 2D networks that were further decorated by B₃O₇H₂ clusters.

Synthesis and structure of QD-6: a novel aluminoborate constructed from unprecedented [B@Al6O24] and polyborate clusters

A novel aluminoborate (NH(4))(6)[C(5)NH(12)](6)[Al(12)B(65)O(105)(OH)(33)]·(H(2)O)(15) (QD-6), has been synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, TGA, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffractions. This compound crystallizes in the rhombohedral space group R3 (No. 148) with the lattice constants a = 23.7421(2) Å, c = 24.7699(3) Å, V = 12091.9(2) Å(3), and Z = 3. QD-6 consists of two unprecedented aluminoborate clusters, [Al(6)B(34)O(54)(OH)(18)](6-) and [Al(6)B(31)O(51)(OH)(15)](6-), which are built from the same hexagon-like [B@Al(6)O(24)] clusters and [B(11)O(17)(OH)(6)] or [B(10)O(16)(OH)(5)] polyborates.

Synthesis of elliptical vanadoborates housing bimetallic centers [Zn4(B2O4H2)(V10B28O74H8)]8? and [Mn4(C2O4)(V10B28O74H8)]10?

The hydrothermal synthesis of three new vanadoborate compounds with elliptical (V10B28O74H8) clusters is described. The clusters contain pairs of bimetallic Zn2 or Mn2 units.
