Abstract
Network topology analysis is applied to a large number of mineral and synthetic oxalates, and is shown to be a superior method in describing and communicating the structure of these materials, including the first natural MOF weddellite.

Abstract
The similar bis-bidentate coordination mode of oxalato and anilato-based ligands is exploited here to create the first examples of 2D and 3D heterometallic lattices based on anilato ligands combining M(I) and a M(III) ions, phases already observed with oxalato but unknown with anilato-type ligands. These lattices are prepared with alkaline metal ions and magnetic chiral tris(anilato)metalate molecular building blocks: [M(III)(C6O4X2)3](3-) (M(III) = Fe and Cr; X = Cl and Br; (C6O4X2)(2-) = dianion of the 3,6-disubstituted derivatives of 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone, H4C6O4). The new compounds include two very similar 2D lattices formulated as (PBu3Me)2[NaCr(C6O4Br2)3] (1) and (PPh3Et)2[KFe(C6O4Cl2)3](dmf)2 (2), both presenting hexagonal [M(I)M(III)(C6O4X2)3](2-) honeycomb layers with (PBu3Me)(+) in 1 or (PPh3Et)(+) and dmf in 2 inserted between them. Minor modifications in the synthetic conditions yield the novel 3D lattice (NEt3Me)[Na(dmf)][NaFe(C6O4Cl2)3] (3), in which hexagonal layers analogous to 1 and 2 are interconnected through Na(+) cations, and (NBu3Me)2[NaCr(C6O4Br2)3] (4), the first heterometallic 3D lattice based on anilato ligands. This compound presents two interlocked chiral 3D (10,3) lattices with opposite chiralities. Attempts to prepare 4 in larger quantities result in the 2D polymorph of compound 4 (4'). Magnetic properties of compounds 1, 3, and 4' are reported, and in all cases we observe, as expected, paramagnetic behaviors that can be satisfactorily reproduced with simple monomer models including a zero field splitting (ZFS) of the corresponding S = 3/2 for Cr(III) in 1 and 4' or S = 5/2 for Fe(III) in 3.

Abstract
The literature on open-framework materials has shown numerous examples of porous solids with additional structural, chemical, or physical properties. These materials show promise for applications ranging from sensing, catalysis and separation to multifunctional materials. This critical review provides an up-to-date survey to this new generation of multifunctional open-framework solids. For this, a detailed revision of the different examples so far reported will be presented, classified into five different sections: magnetic, chiral, conducting, optical, and labile open-frameworks for sensing applications. Abstract
Tris-chelated metal complexes with octahedral geometry are sometimes used as building blocks for "self assembly" and "crystal engineering". These versatile building blocks easily form honey-comb type 2D nets. However, in this Perspective we discuss the different types of 3D nets that can be formed with these starting materials using Wells classification, and concentrate on the (10,3) nets. We show that several of these, and not only the (10,3)-a net, are possible by analysing the geometrical requirements of each net. We note that each possible net implies a specific assembly order of Delta or Lambda chirality of the building blocks.

Abstract
2,2'-Biimidazoles were synthesized by palladium(0)-catalyzed coupling of 2-iodoimidazoles bearing an alkyl and an ester group at the 4- and 5-positions, respectively. The products were found to be fluorescent and moderately soluble in organic solvents. Three biimidazoles were subjected to single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In all three instances, adjacent molecules were found to be bound together in the solid state by pairs of N-H...N hydrogen bonds, forming twisted ribbon-like columns which resemble double helices. The amount of helical twist observed between neighboring biimidazole subunits in these helices varies with the identity of the alkyl and ester groups; in two cases it is approximately 60 degrees, whereas in the third it is about 90 degrees. Mass spectra of six different biimidazoles display ions with masses corresponding to dimers; this indicates that these compounds retain some affinity for each other in the gas phase. The three most soluble biimidazoles also show mass spectrometric peaks ascribable to trimers and tetramers. The solution-phase aggregation tendencies of these latter three compounds were studied by vapor pressure osmometry. In each case, the apparent molecular weight in 1,2-dichloroethane solution is higher than would be expected for free monomers.
