Abstract
Examples of carbon-carbon bond-forming cyclisation reactions, involving allyl cations generated by the thermal ring-opening of halocyclopropanes, have been scarcely reported. In this contribution, we are describing the results of a study conducted with N-dihalocyclopropylamide substrates, designed as precursors of cyclic iminium intermediates that were aimed at participating in intramolecular reactions with electron-rich aromatic groups. Competitive side-reactions were identified, and access to the desired polycyclic products was carefully evaluated. The results were found to be strongly dependent on the substitution pattern of the nucleophilic aromatic moieties, as well as on the sizes of the rings of the target products. In spite of the rather moderate yields generally obtained, this approach represents a particularly short and inexpensive route to various interesting nitrogen-containing polycyclic systems, namely benzoindolizidine, benzoquinolizidine, piperidinobenzoazepane and azepanoisoquinoline compounds.

Abstract
It is a reasonable question to ask, why, as of 1965 when the five Woodward-Hoffmann communications appeared, did no other organic chemist discover the orbital symmetry rules for pericyclic reactions? Two theoretical chemists - Luitzen Oosterhoff (in 1961) and Kenichi Fukui (in 1964) had discovered portions of the orbital symmetry rules before Woodward and Hoffmann. Why not organic chemists? Indeed, perhaps the greatest motivation to discover the mechanism of a mysterious reaction is to uncover key examples of that mysterious reaction in your very own laboratory. The stories of 20 chemists and R. B. Woodward are discussed in this paper which is Paper 6 in a 27-paper series on the history of Woodward-Hoffmann rules. Social, political, and scientific explanations will also be presented as partial explanations as to why none of these individuals - except Woodward with Hoffmann - solved the pericyclic no-mechanism problem.

Abstract
Herein, we describe a protocol for the ring-opening arylation of 1-arylcyclopropyl tosylates, in which boronic acids promote ring-opening and a Ni catalyst facilitates arylation in high regioselectivity. A number of 2-arylated allyl derivatives are synthesized, which are relevant motifs found in biologically active molecules.

Abstract
The ability to understand and predict reactivity is essential for the development of new reactions. In the context of Ni-catalyzed C(sp3)-O functionalization, we have developed a unique strategy employing activated cyclopropanols to aid the design and optimization of a redox-active leaving group for C(sp3)-O arylation. In this chemistry, the cyclopropane ring acts as a reporter of leaving-group reactivity, since the ring-opened product is obtained under polar (2e) conditions, and the ring-closed product is obtained under radical (1e) conditions. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that the optimal leaving group is redox-active and are consistent with a Ni(I)/Ni(III) catalytic cycle. The optimized reaction conditions are also used to synthesize a number of arylcyclopropanes, which are valuable pharmaceutical motifs.

Abstract
The reaction of excess TMSCl and LiCCl2 Br at low temperature is a technically simple high yield route to TMSCCl2 Br. The latter is a stable source of the dichlorobromomethide carbanion, which undergoes 1,4-addition with cyclic nitroalkenes and (E)-fumarates leading to dichlorocyclopropanes after bromide expulsion. For nitrostyrenes the reaction arrests at the 1,4-addition product. Low temperature NMR spectroscopy studies and DFT calculations suggest the formation of an "ate" species [(nitronate)SiFMe3 ](-) which, upon boil-off of TMSF at 10-20 °C, yields the cyclopropane. DFT calculations also support the experimental differences between fluoride and acetate as promotors.

Abstract
We report herein facile acid-catalyzed isomerization of 1-(1'-cycloalkenyl)cyclopropyl sulfonates under mild conditions. The remarkable ease of ring opening is attributed to the presence of a 1'-alkyl substituent. Also included is a palladium-catalyzed ring opening reaction of 1-(1'-cycloalkenyl)cyclopropyl tosylates for convenient preparation of substituted 1,3-dienylamines, which complements previously reported nucleophilic substitution reactions of (1-vinyl)cyclopropyl tosylates.
