Abstract
Facile and modular access to stereodefined disubstituted aldehyde-derived silyl enol ethers allowed their successful application in a stereoselective aldol reaction affording the products with excellent yields and diastereomeric ratios. The counter-intuitive stereochemical behavior of this Mukaiyama-aldol reaction is accounted for by a non-classical open transition state.

Abstract
The Mukaiyama aldol reaction is a widely applied carbon-carbon bond forming reaction. However, despite numerous well-established methods using aldehydes as acceptors, only few examples exist with ketones. Here we report a highly practical catalytic approach to this transformation, namely, the triflimide catalyzed Mukaiyama aldol reaction of silyl ketene acetals with ketones. This method exhibits a broad substrate scope, is very rapid, tolerates functionalized substrates, and requires only parts-per-million catalyst loadings with preparative scale reactions up to hundreds of grams in excellent purity (>99 %).

Abstract
1,2-Bis(boronic esters), derived from the enantioselective diboration of terminal alkenes, can be selectively homologated at the primary boronic ester by using enantioenriched primary/secondary lithiated carbamates or benzoates to give 1,3-bis(boronic esters), which can be subsequently oxidized to the corresponding secondary-secondary and secondary-tertiary 1,3-diols with full stereocontrol. The transformation was applied to a concise total synthesis of the 14-membered macrolactone, Sch 725674. The nine-step synthetic route also features a novel desymmetrizing enantioselective diboration of a divinyl carbinol derivative and high-yielding late-stage cross-metathesis and Yamaguchi macrolactonization reactions.

Abstract
In the presence of a strong carbon acid, the sequential Mukaiyama-Michael reaction using two different Michael acceptors proceeded and the reaction of ketene silyl acetal derived from EtOAc with α-pyrones as primal acceptors yielded the corresponding cyclic ketene silyl acetals, which were reactive enough to undergo the following reaction with second acceptors.

Abstract
“Super silyl” governed diastereoselective Mukaiyama aldol reaction for the construction of protected α,β-dioxyaldehydes and 1,2,3-triols via Lewis acid catalysis.
A highly diastereoselective approach for the synthesis of protected α,β-dioxyaldehydes derived from (Z)-tris(trimethylsilyl)silyl “super silyl” enol ethers is described. A general and highly syn-stereoselective aldol reaction directed by the “super silyl” group catalyzed by triflimide (HNTf2) is developed providing α,β-dioxyaldehydes and 1,2,3-triol fragments which can be a useful platform for the elaboration of natural and unnatural sugar derivatives.

Abstract
The aryloxypyrazole structure is present in a number of bioactive molecules. Four 1,5-diaryl-3-oxypyrazoles containing benzoyl (I), thiazolidinethione (II and III) or per-O-acetylated glucopyranosyl (IV) moieties were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds I and II crystallize in a triclinic P-1 system, whereas III and IV crystallize in an orthorhombic Pbca and a monoclinic P21 space groups, respectively. The dihedral angles between the two benzene rings of the pyrazole are 61.33° (I), 62.87° (II), 57.09° (III) and 70.25° (IV). The structures were stabilized by classical intra- (C-H···S for II and III, C-H···O for IV) and intermolecular (C-H···O for I and IV) H-bonds, as well as intermolecular C-H···π stacking interactions. The theoretical FTIR results showed good agreement with the experimental data. Compounds IV, II and III showed moderate fungicidal activity against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Gibberella zeae. The structure-activity relationships were discussed.

Abstract
Super silyl haloesters including chloro- and bromoacetate were synthesized and utilized for aldol reactions to give syn-β-hydroxy-α-haloacetates in good yields with high diastereoselectivities. β-Hydroxy-α-fluoroacetate was obtained by lithiation of super silyl bromofluoroacetate. Sequential Darzens reactions provided cis-glycidic esters in moderate yields.

Abstract
Double-action haloketones: A super silyl group enabled the first highly diastereoselective Mukaiyama aldol reactions of α-chloro- and α-fluoroketones with a wide range of aldehydes, providing anti-β-siloxy-α-haloketones. This process is compatible with one-pot double-aldol methodology and allows for rapid access to new halogen-modified polyketide fragments bearing up to four contiguous stereocenters.

Abstract
The Mukaiyama cross-aldol reaction of α-fluoro-, α-chloro-, and α-bromoacetaldehyde-derived (Z)-tris(trimethylsilyl)silyl enol ethers is described, furnishing anti-β-siloxy-α-haloaldehydes. A highly diastereoselective, one-pot, sequential double-aldol process is developed, affording novel β,δ-bissiloxy-α,γ-bishaloaldehydes. Reactions are catalyzed by C(6)F(5)CHTf(2) and C(6)F(5)CTf(2)AlMe(2) (0.5-1.5 mol %) and provide access to halogenated polyketide fragments.

Abstract
In this communication, we report that substrate-controlled 1,5-syn and -anti stereoinduction in the aldol reaction of beta-tris(trialkylsilyl)siloxy methyl ketones can be achieved with high diastereoselectivities. Tris(trialkylsilyl)silyl groups are easily prepared and play an important role in the selectivities of these reactions. Furthermore, all of the 1,3,5-triol stereoisomers can easily be prepared from beta-siloxy methyl ketones in no more than three steps.

Abstract
This review focuses on the development of acid catalysis for selective organic transformations conducted in our laboratories for the past 30 years. Several important concepts in designing of catalysts are described with some examples. Further, recent developments in super Brønsted acid and their applications in a one-pot procedure to construct complex molecules with high diastereoselectivities are described.(Communicated by Hitosi NOZAKI, M.J.A.).
