Abstract
Chiral phosphoric acids (CPAs) have emerged as highly effective Brønsted acid catalysts in an expanding range of asymmetric transformations, often through novel multifunctional substrate activation modes. Versatile and broadly appealing, these catalysts benefit from modular and tunable structures, and compatibility with additives. Given the unique types of noncovalent interactions (NCIs) that can be established between CPAs and various reactants─such as hydrogen bonding, aromatic interactions, and van der Waals forces─it is unsurprising that these catalyst systems have become a promising approach for accessing diverse chiral product outcomes. This review aims to provide an in-depth exploration of the mechanisms by which CPAs impart stereoselectivity, positioning NCIs as the central feature that connects a broad spectrum of catalytic reactions. Spanning literature from 2004 to 2024, it covers nucleophilic additions, radical transformations, and atroposelective bond formations, highlighting the applicability of CPA organocatalysis. Special emphasis is placed on the structural and mechanistic features that govern CPA-substrate interactions, as well as the tools and techniques developed to enhance our understanding of their catalytic behavior. In addition to emphasizing mechanistic details and stereocontrolling elements in individual reactions, we have carefully structured this review to provide a natural progression from these specifics to a broader, class-level perspective. Overall, these findings underscore the critical role of NCIs in CPA catalysis and their significant contributions to advancing asymmetric synthesis.

Abstract
A highly stereoselective Brønsted-acid catalyzed synthesis of densely substituted spiroisoindolinones from enamides and 3-hydroxy-isoindolinones is described. With simple Brønsted-acids, such as para-toluene sulfonic acid, spiroisoindolinones with three contiguous stereogenic centers are formed in high yields (up to 97 %) and diastereoselectivities (up to >98 : <2 : 0 : 0 dr) under mild reaction conditions. With the use of a chiral phosphoric acid catalyst, a diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of the corresponding spiroisoindolinones was achieved. Mechanistic investigations indicate a step-wise mechanism via an initial addition of the enamide to an electrophilic N-acylimine species followed by an intramolecular aza-Friedel-Crafts reaction. Addition of a strong Lewis acid can be used to facilitate the second step for less reactive substrates.

Abstract
Asymmetric synthesis presents many challenges, with the selective formation of chiral bridged polyheterocycles being a notable example. Cycloadditions using bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes (BCB) offer a promising solution along those lines, yet, despite significant advances in that emerging area, asymmetric control has remained limited thus far. Here, we describe an organocatalytic, enantioselective formal (3 + 3)-cycloaddition of BCBs with 1H-indol-3-yl((hetero)aryl)methanol derivatives. This approach enables the rapid and efficient synthesis of chiral tetrahydro-1H-1,3-methanocarbazole derivatives (34 examples) from readily available starting materials, with very good stereochemical control (up to 98:2 er). Successful scale-up experiments and product modification demonstrated the potential of this methodology. Control experiments and DFT calculations provide insights into the mechanistic pathway.

Abstract
This study develops a biogenetic synthesis strategy using electrooxidation and heterodimerization of N-substituted pyrrolidine-1-carboxamides to create diverse analogues of the fissoldhimine alkaloid core. Under acidic conditions, 2-alkoxypyrrolidine-1-carboxamides from Shono oxidation formed endo-heterodimers with high yields and diastereoselectivity. Enantioselective heterodimerization using chiral phosphoric acid catalysis produced exo-heterodimers with high enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Dearomatization approaches are attractive for their abilities to transform simple, planar arenes into complex, three-dimensional architectures. In particular, visible-light driven dearomatization strategies are significant because of their mild, green, and sustainable nature, enabling the fabrication of new chemical bonds via an electron transfer or energy transfer process. Indole compounds, being potentially bioactive and readily accessible, can be employed efficiently as building blocks for constructing diverse annulated frameworks under photocatalysis. Highly stereoselective radical cascade reactions of appropriate indole systems can provide complex cyclic scaffolds bearing multiple stereocenters. In fact, the past few years have witnessed the renaissance of dearomative cycloadditions of indoles via visible-light-induced photocatalysis. The present review highlights recent advances (2019-mid 2024) in visible-light-driven dearomative annulation of indoles leading to formation of polycyclic indolines, including angularly fused and spiro indolines. Most of the reactions described in this review are simple, providing quick access to the desired products. Additionally, characteristic reaction mechanisms are offered to provide an understand of how indole scaffolds show distinctive reactivity under photocatalytic conditions.

Abstract
Spiroaminals represent novel structural motifs prevalent in diverse natural products and biologically active molecules. Achieving their enantioselective synthesis is a highly desirable and challenging task in synthetic endeavors due to their intricate molecular frameworks. Herein, we accomplished the first stereodivergent construction of spiroaminals using chiral bifunctional organocatalyzed intramolecular 1,2-addition followed by an oxa-Michael addition cascade in a high atom and step economical pathway. A proper modulation of the cinchona-derived squaramide catalysts efficiently provided access to all the possible stereoisomers with high yield, diastereoselectivity, and excellent enantioselectivity while displaying a broad substrate tolerance. Additionally, we validated the scalability of the reaction and demonstrated the synthesis of variable spiroaminal scaffolds, confirming the viability of our protocol.

Abstract
In this study, the AgOAc/ThioClickFerrophos (TCF) complex was used to successfully catalyze asymmetric [3 + 2] cycloaddition between glycine imino esters and CO2Me-appended α-alkylidene succinimides to afford spiropyrrolidines in good yields with high diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee). The silver/TCF afforded endo-(2,5-cis) cycloadducts in contrast to the previous exo'-(2,5-trans) selective reaction with ylidene-2,3-dioxopyrrolidine. A wide variety of imino esters bearing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups on the phenyl groups and heteroaryl substrates were utilized in this reaction. The scope of α-alkylidene succinimides was investigated, which revealed that substituents on α-benzylidene derivatives had negligible effect on the product yield and stereoselectivity, and α-alkylidene derivatives could be efficiently used as dipolarophiles.

Abstract
Conjugated trienes are fascinating building blocks for the rapid construction of complex polycyclic compounds. However, limited success has been achieved due to the challenging regioselectivity control. Herein, we report an enantio- and diastereoselective process allowing to regioselectively control the functionalization of NH-triene-carbamates. Synthesis of chiral cis-3,6-dihydro-2H-1,2-oxazines is achieved by a chiral phosphoric acid catalyzed Nitroso-Diels-Alder cycloaddition involving [(1E,3E,5E)-hexa-1,3,5-trien-1-yl]carbamates. Moreover, modular access to three different regioisomers with excellent diastereoselectivities and high to excellent enantioselectivities is obtained by a careful choice of the reaction conditions. A computational study reveals that the regioselectivity is influenced by the steric demand of the substituents at the 6-position of the triene, as well as noncovalent interactions between the two cycloaddition partners. Utility of each regioisomeric cycloadduct is highlighted by a variety of synthetic transformations.

Abstract
A catalytic protio-semipinacol ring-expansion reaction has been developed for the highly enantioselective conversion of tertiary vinylic cyclopropyl alcohols into cyclobutanone products bearing α-quaternary stereogenic centers. The method relies on the cocatalytic effect of a chiral dual-hydrogen-bond donor (HBD) with hydrogen chloride. Experimental evidence is provided for a stepwise mechanism where protonation of the alkene generates a short-lived, high-energy carbocation, which is followed by C-C bond migration to deliver the enantioenriched product. This research applies strong acid/chiral HBD cocatalysis to weakly basic olefinic substrates and lays the foundation for further investigations of enantioselective reactions involving high-energy cationic intermediates.

Abstract
The first diastereo- and enantiodivergent asymmetric synthesis of new bis-spirocyclopropyloxindole scaffolds has been accomplished from the readily available isatin as a single starting material. Four rel-(1R,2R,3R), rel-(1S,2S,3R), rel-(1R,2R,3S), and rel-(1S,2S,3S) configurations of desired products were constructed in excellent enantiopurity via a simple switch in substrates using the chiral auxiliary-controlled method. The absolute configuration of cycloadducts with three contiguous quaternary/tertiary stereogenic centers was confirmed through X-ray diffraction analysis. A facile synthesis of versatile precursor 3-chlorooxindoles was also introduced.

Abstract
We report herein the first examples of chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed enantioselective Diels-Alder reactions between 2-trifluoroacetamido-1,3-dienes 1 and α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds 2. Polysubstituted 1-acetamido cyclohexenes 3 were formed in high yields with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The reaction proceeds through a stepwise process as shown by deuterium labelling experiments. A catalytic enantioselective three-component reaction of 1, 2 and ortho-hydroxybenzhydryl alcohols 4 was subsequently developed furnishing the densely functionalized hexahydroxanthenes 5 in a highly stereoselective manner. This multicomponent reaction generates four chemical bonds with concurrent creation of five contiguous stereocenters.

Abstract
Dimeric cyclization reactions show great potential to rapidly form highly substituted complex cyclic molecules from simple starting materials. However, such an appealing process is often hampered by the lack of selectivity. Herein we report two divergent cyclodimerization reactions of 1-styrylnaphthalen-2-ol derivatives under simple and very mild reaction conditions. A stereoselective visible light-induced oxidative (1 + 1 + 4 + 4) homodimerization gave rise to highly substituted 1,5-dioxocanes in moderate yields. This transformation harnessed singlet oxygen as a safe and mild oxidant under photocatalyst-free reaction conditions. Additionally, we demonstrated that the same substrates undergo a (4 + 2) heterodimerization under Brønsted-acid catalysis to produce chromane derivatives featuring 3 contiguous tertiary stereocenters in good to high yields with excellent diastereoselectivities.

Abstract
Based on the intramolecular E1cB elimination, a novel [4 + 2] cyclization was designed and successfully applied to the asymmetric synthesis of polycyclic compounds which contained both chromane and spirooxindole moieties. In the reaction, regardless of the competitive pathways resulting from multireactive sites of starting materials, products could be obtained in good yields (up to 84%) and with excellent enantioselectivities (most 98 to >99% ee) under the catalysis of a chiral bifunctional thiourea-tertiary amine (1-5 mol %).

Abstract
AbstractThis review summarizes recent developments in the area of Brønsted acid catalyzed, enantioselective cycloadditions of ortho-quinone methides, ortho-quinone methide imines as well as heterocyclic indole- and pyrrole-based methides. In a straightforward and single-step transformation complex polycyclic N- and O-heterocyclic scaffolds are accessible, with typically good yields and excellent stereocontrol, from simple benzyl and heterobenzyl alcohols upon acid-catalyzed dehydration. The transient precursors are hydrogen-bonded to a chiral Brønsted acid which controls the enantioselectivity of the process.1 Introduction2 Cycloadditions of ortho-Quinone Methides2.1 Brønsted Acid Catalyzed Processes2.2 Cooperative Brønsted Acid/Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Processes3 Cycloadditions of ortho-Quinone Methide Imines4 Cycloadditions of Indolyl-3-methides5 Cycloadditions of Indolyl-2-methides5.1 Brønsted Acid Catalyzed Processes5.2 Cooperative Brønsted Acid/Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Processes6 Cycloadditions of Pyrrolyl-2-methides7 Cycloadditions of Pyrrolyl-3-methides8 Conclusions

Abstract
An enantioselective three-component reaction of α-propargylic-3-indolymethanol with diazoindolinone and alcohol under cocatalysis of Rh(II) and chiral phosphoric acid (CPA) has been reported. It proceeds through the regio- and enantiospecific addition of the in situ formed oxonium ylide to the α-propargylic indole iminium ion that is generated from 3-indolyl propargylic alcohol with CPA. This work features an asymmetric counteranion-directed propargylation of oxonium ylide, and provides an efficient access to chiral propargylic indole derivatives with high yields and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A simple and convenient cyclization of ortho-hydroxyphenyl-substituted para-quinone methides with benzofuran-2-one type active olefins via oxa-Michael/1,6-conjugated addition has been developed, which afforded an easy access to enriched functionalized chroman-spirobenzofuran-2-one scaffolds with good to excellent yields (up to 90%) and diastereoselectivities (up to >19 : 1 dr). This reaction provided an efficient method for constructing desired spirocyclic compounds combining both well-known heterocyclic pharmacophores chroman and benzofuran-2-one. Highly diastereoselective synthesis of spirocyclic compounds combining both well-known heterocyclic pharmacophores chroman and benzofuran-2-one.![]()
