Abstract
A Rh(III)-catalyzed dearomative C3 alkoxylation of indoles via cascade C(sp2)-H activation and 1,2-alkoxyl shift rearrangement has been developed. This method provides an efficient strategy to rapidly assemble 3-alkoxyindolin-2-one scaffolds using alcohols as alkoxyl sources. Mechanistic studies indicate that indolyl C2 alkoxylation followed by Ag(I)/Cu(II)-mediated 1,2-alkoxyl migration is involved in this transformation.

Abstract
Oxidative cleavage of aromatic C(sp2)-O bond is important to the conversion of biomass and plastic wastes into value-added chemicals. Here we put forward the oxidative cleavage of para-C-O bonds in phenolic compounds in use of oxoammonium salts as oxidant and water as the oxygen source. The mechanism is that oxoammonium cation activates water to form hydroxy-oxoammonium adduct and thus realizes the ipso-substitution of 4-alkoxyphenol, which is proved by substituent effect, isotope labelling experiments, and kinetic analysis. Furthermore, this protocol is successfully applied into the depolymerization of both lignin model compounds with α-O-5 and 4-O-5 linkages and polyphenylene oxide (PPO).

Abstract
A symmetric anion mediated dynamic kinetic asymmetric Knoevenagel reaction was established as a general and efficient method for accessing both N-C and N-N atropisomers. The resulting highly enantio-pure pyridine-2,6(1H,3H)-diones exhibit diverse structures and functional groups. The key to excellent regio- and remote enantiocontrol could be owed to the hydrogen bond between the enolate anion and triflamide block of the organocatalyst. This connected the enolate anion and iminium cation by a chiral backbone. The mechanism investigation via control experiments, correlation analysis, and density functional theory calculations further revealed how the stereochemical information was transferred from the catalyst into the axially chiral pyridine-2,6(1H,3H)-diones. The synthetic applications also demonstrated the reaction's potential.

Abstract
Axially chiral biaryl δ-amino acids possess significantly different conformational properties and chiral environment from centrally chiral amino acids, therefore, have drawn considerable attention in the fields of synthetic and medicinal chemistry. Herein, a novel chiral phenanthroline-potassium catalyst has been developed by constructing a well-organized axially chiral ligand composed of one 1,10-phenanthroline unit and two axially chiral 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (BINOL) units. In the presence of this catalyst, good to excellent yields and enantioselectivities (up to 99 % yield, 98 : 2 er) have been achieved in the ring-opening alcoholytic dynamic kinetic resolution of a variety of biaryl lactams, thereby providing an efficient protocol for catalytic asymmetric synthesis of unnatural axially chiral biaryl δ-amino acid derivatives.

Abstract
There is a pressing need for methods that can connect enantioenriched organic compounds with readily accessible building blocks via asymmetric functionalization of unreactive chemical bonds in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Herein, the asymmetric chemoselective cleavage of two unactivated C(Ar)-O bonds in the same molecule is disclosed for the first time through an unusual nickel-catalyzed carbomagnesiation. This reaction facilitates the evolution of a novel atroposelective ring-opening difunctionalization. Utilizing readily available dibenzo bicyclic substrates, diverse valuable axially chiral biaryls are furnished with high efficiencies. Synthetic elaborations showcase the application potential of this method. The features of this method include good atom-economy, multiple roles of the nucleophile, and a simple catalytic system that enables the precise magnesiation of an α-C(Ar)-O bond and arylation of a β-C(Ar)-O bond.

Abstract
Atropisomeric compounds-stereoisomers that arise from the restricted rotation about a single bond-have attracted widespread attention in recent years due to their immense potential for applications in a variety of fields, including medicinal chemistry, catalysis and molecular nanoscience. This increased interest led to the invention of new molecular motors, the incorporation of atropisomers into drug discovery programmes and a wide range of novel atroposelective reactions, including those that simultaneously control multiple stereogenic axes. A diverse set of synthetic methodologies, which can be grouped into desymmetrizations, (dynamic) kinetic resolutions, cross-coupling reactions and de novo ring formations, is available for the catalyst-controlled stereoselective synthesis of various atropisomer classes. In this Review, we generalize the concepts for the catalyst-controlled stereoselective synthesis of atropisomers within these categories with an emphasis on recent advancements and underdeveloped atropisomeric scaffolds beyond stereogenic C(sp2)-C(sp2) axes. We also discuss more complex systems with multiple stereogenic axes or higher-order stereogenicity.

Abstract
The development of new methods for regio- and stereoselective activation of C-O bonds in ethers holds significant promise for synthetic chemistry, offering advantages in terms of environmental sustainability and economic efficiency. Moreover, the C-N atropisomers represent a fascinating and crucial chiral system, extensively found in natural products, pharmaceutical leads, and the frameworks of advanced materials. In this work, we have introduced a nickel-catalyzed regio- and enantioselective carbon-oxygen arylation reaction for atroposelective synthesis of N-arylisoquinoline-1,3(2H,4H)-diones. The high regioselectivity of C-O cleavage benefits from the high stability of the in situ formed (amido)ethenolate via oxidative addition. Additionally, the self-activation of the aryl C-O bond facilitates the reaction under mild conditions, leading to outstanding enantioselectivities. The diverse post-functionalizations of the axially chiral isoquinoline-1,3(2H,4H)-diones further highlighted the utility of this protocol in preparing valuable C-N atropisomers, including the chiral phosphine ligands.

Abstract
We herein introduce biarylhemiboronic esters as a new type of bridged biaryl reagent for asymmetric synthesis of axially chiral biaryl structures, and the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of biarylhemiboronic esters is developed. This dynamic kinetic atroposelective coupling reaction exhibits high enantioselectivity, good functional group tolerance, and a broad substrate scope. The synthetic application of the current method was demonstrated by transformations of the product and a programmed synthesis of chiral polyarene. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggested that the reaction proceeded via an enantio-determining dynamic kinetic atroposelective transmetalation step.

Abstract
This article describes the discovery and development of a palladium-catalyzed asymmetric C-H olefination of 2-hydroxybiaryls. The strategy allows a direct assembly of optically active, axially chiral 2-substituted-2'-hydroxybiaryls from readily available precursors and demonstrates that the native hydroxy unit of the substrates can work as an efficient directing group for the C-H activation. This represents a substantial advantage over other approaches that require the preinstallation of metal coordinating units. The simplicity of the approach and versatility of the products allow a practical and efficient synthesis of a broad variety of optically active binaphthyl derivatives.

Abstract
The development of catalytic asymmetric reaction with water as the reactant is challenging due to the reactivity- and stereoselectivity-control issues resulted from the low nucleophilicity and the small size of water. We disclose herein a chiral phosphoric acid (CPA) catalyzed atroposelective ring-opening reaction of biaryl oxazepines with water. A series of biaryl oxazepines undergo the CPA catalyzed asymmetric hydrolysis in a highly enantioselective manner. The key for the success of this reaction is the use of a new SPINOL-derived CPA catalyst and the high reactivity of biaryl oxazepine substrates towards water under acidic conditions. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the reaction proceeds via a dynamic kinetic resolution pathway and the CPA catalyzed addition of water to the imine group is both enantio- and rate-determining.

Abstract
Among phenol-derived electrophiles, aryl sulfamates are attractive substrates since they can be employed as directing groups for C-H functionalization prior to catalysis. However, their use in C-N coupling is limited only to Ni catalysis. Here, we describe a Pd-based catalyst with a broad scope for the amination of aryl sulfamates. We show that the N-methyl-2-aminobiphenyl palladacycle supported by the PCyp2ArXyl2 ligand (Cyp = cyclopentyl; ArXyl2 = 2,6-bis(2,6-dimethylphenyl)phenyl) efficiently catalyzes the C-N coupling of aryl sulfamates with a variety of nitrogen nucleophiles, including anilines, primary and secondary alkyl amines, heteroaryl amines, N-heterocycles, and primary amides. DFT calculations support that the oxidative addition of the aryl sulfamate is the rate-determining step. The C-N coupling takes place through a cationic pathway in the polar protic medium.

Abstract
We report herein a point-to-axial chirality transfer reaction of optical dihydrophenanthrene-9,10-diols for the synthesis of axially chiral diketones. Two sets of conditions, namely a basic tBuOK/air atmosphere and an acidic NaClO/n-Bu4NHSO4, were developed to oxidatively cleave the C-C bond, resulting in the formation of axially chiral biaryl diketones. Finally, brief synthetic applications of the obtained chiral aryl diketones were demonstrated.

Abstract
The functionalization of etheric C-O bonds via C-O bond cleavage is an attractive strategy for the construction of C-C and C-X bonds in organic synthesis. However, these reactions mainly involve C(sp3)-O bond cleavage, and a catalyst-controlled highly enantioselective version is extremely challenging. Here, we report a copper-catalyzed asymmetric cascade cyclization via C(sp2)-O bond cleavage, allowing the divergent and atom-economic synthesis of a range of chromeno[3,4-c]pyrroles bearing a triaryl oxa-quaternary carbon stereocenter in high yields and enantioselectivities. Importantly, this protocol not only represents the first [1,2]-Stevens-type rearrangement via C(sp2)-O bond cleavage, but also constitutes the first example of [1,2]-aryl migration reactions via vinyl cations.

Abstract
Despite the great advancement in atroposelective synthesis in the past decades, the enantioselective synthesis of 2,2'-difluoro-1-biaryls is unprecedented. Herein, a palladium and chiral amino acid catalyzed atroposelective C-H olefination to construct the axially chiral 2,2'-difluoro-1-biaryls is reported. A variety of polyfluoro-substituted biaryls were forged under mild conditions in good yields with excellent enantioselectivity (up to 99% ee). The potential application was demonstrated by a gram-scale synthesis and synthetic transformations.

Abstract
Nonpolar alkyl moieties, especially methyl group, are frequently used to modify bioactive molecules during lead optimization in medicinal chemistry. Thus transition-metal catalyzed alkylative cross-coupling reactions by using readily available and environmentally benign C–O electrophiles have been established as powerful tools to install alkyl groups, however, the C(sp3)–C(sp2) cross-coupling via asymmetric activation of aromatic C–O bond for the synthesis of alkylated chiral compounds remains elusive. Here, we unlock a C(sp3)–C(sp2) cross-coupling via enantioselective activation of aromatic C–O bond for the efficient synthesis of versatile axially chiral 2-alkyl-2’-hydroxyl-biaryl compounds. By employing a unique chiral N-heterocyclic carbene ligand, this transformation is accomplished via nickel catalysis with good enantiocontrol. Mechanistic studies indicate that bis-ligated nickel complexes might be formed as catalytically active species in the enantioselective alkylative cross-coupling. Moreover, further derivation experiments suggest this developed methodology holds great promise for complex molecule synthesis and asymmetric catalysis. Transition-metal catalyzed alkylative cross-couplings are established, powerful tools for the installation of alkyl groups. Here, the authors unlock a C(sp3)–C(sp2) cross-coupling via the asymmetric activation of the aromatic C–O bond by bis-ligated nickel complexes for the synthesis of alkylated, axially chiral biaryl compounds.

Abstract
Significant advances have been achieved for the construction of chiral skeletons containing 1,2,3-triazoles via transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric azide-alkyne cycloaddition; however, most of them have been limited to terminal alkynes in the synthesis of central chirality via desymmetrization and dynamic/dynamic kinetic resolution. Enantioselective transition-metal-catalyzed azide-internal-alkyne cycloaddition is extremely limited. Moreover, the construction of a challenging five-membered (hetero)biaryl axially chiral molecule via transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric azide-internal-alkyne cycloaddition is still underexplored. Herein, we first report an atroposelective and atom-economical synthesis of axially chiral 1,4,5-trisubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles, directly acting as core chiral units of challenging five-membered atropisomers, via the enantioselective Rh-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (E-RhAAC) of internal alkynes and azides. The reaction demonstrates excellent functional group tolerance, forging a variety of C-C axially chiral 1,2,3-triazoles under mild conditions with moderate to excellent yields (up to 99% yield) and generally high to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) along with specific regiocontrol. The origin of regio- and enantioselectivity control is disclosed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, providing new guidance for the facile construction of axially chiral compounds.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed enantioselective ring-opening/carbonylation of cyclic diarylsulfonium salts is reported. In comparison to thioethers, the sulfonium salts displayed high reactivity and enabled the reaction to be performed under mild conditions (room temperature). The steric repulsion of the two non-hydrogen substituents adjacent to the axis led cyclic diarylsulfonium salts to be distorted, which enabled the ring-opening reaction to proceed with significant preference for breaking the exocyclic C-S bond.

Abstract
A direct cross-coupling between 9H-fluoren-9-ols and organic azides for the synthesis of steric hindered 2-amino-2'-ketonyl biaryls was reported. The reaction featured an acid-mediated azidation/ring-expansion/hydrolysis cascade, which formally realized the C-N bond coupling reaction via cleavage of a C-C single bond. This method was applicable to chiral helical structure to give bulky axially chiral biaryls with full stereospecificity.
