Abstract
Thanks to the versatile vinylogous hexafluoro iso-propyl acrylate molecular platforms, a regio- and enantioselective sulfa-Michael reaction was achieved upon organocatalytic conditions, allowing the subsequent amidation, one-pot oxidation, and Mislow-Bravermann-Evans [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement along with a 1,3-chirality transfer, leading eventually to a formal asymmetric 1,6-hydroxylation sequence.

Abstract
The enantioselective and diastereoselective control of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions to β-substituted cyclic enones has been developed. The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of phthalazinium dicyanomethanides with cyclic dienones affords chiral tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-a]phthalazine derivatives 3 through vinylogous iminium ion activation by combining a cinchona-based primary amine C3 and a chiral camphorsulfonic acid additive. Conversely, with a weaker 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid additive, the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of phthalazinium dicyanomethanides with β-substituted cyclic enones leads to chiral hexahydroisoindolo[1,2-a]phthalazin-10(8H)-one derivatives 4 with excellent stereocontrol via endo-dienamine activation.

Abstract
Here, we report a highly effective dearomative (3 + 2) cycloaddition reaction between isoquinolinium ylides and α,β-enamides, α,β-γ,δ-dienamides, or an α,β-γ,δ-ε,ζ-trienamide, which is catalyzed by a chiral π-Cu(ii) complex (1-10 mol%) and proceeds in a site-selective, exo/endo-selective, and enantioselective manner. The (3 + 2) cycloaddition involving the α,β-enamides proceeds with high exo-selectivity and enantioselectivity. This method is applicable to various substrates including α-substituted, α,β-disubstituted, or β,β-disubstituted α,β-enamides, which are compounds with an intrinsically low reactivity. This method provides synthetic access to pyrroloisoquinoline derivatives with up to three chiral carbon centers, including those featuring fluorine and trifluoromethyl groups, as well as quaternary carbon centers. The (3 + 2) cycloaddition involving α,β-γ,δ-dienamides proceeds with high γ,δ-site-selectivity and enantioselectivity, whereby the exo/endo-selectivity depends on the substrates and ligands. Remarkably, the (3 + 2) cycloaddition of δ-phenyl-α,β-γ,δ-dienamide proceeds with high α,β-site-selectivity, exo-selectivity, and enantioselectivity. In a manner similar to the reaction with the α,β-γ,δ-dienamides, α,β-γ,δ-ε,ζ-trienamide furnishes a (3 + 2) cycloadduct with good ε,ζ-site-selectivity, endo-selectivity, and enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Different from electronically matched 1,4- and 1,6-additions, herein, we disclose an electronically mismatched 1,5-conjugate addition process with oximes as the nucleophiles. By this design, the oxime moieties are readily introduced to the γ-position of the electron-deficient substrates in good yields, excellent regioselectivities, and high enantioselectivities. The corresponding allyl oximes are also conveniently transformed into a series of valuable enantioenriched skeletons.

Abstract
Isoxazolidine, isoxazole, and isoquinolinone rings are present in the structure of several natural products and/or pharmaceutically interesting compounds. In this work, facile and efficient pathways have been developed for the preparation of fused frameworks bearing those heterocycles. The successful approaches for both isoxazolidine/isoquinolinone and isoxazole/isoquinolinone hybrid syntheses relied initially on 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions of nitrones and nitrile oxides to indenone and 2-propargylbenzamide, respectively. The construction of the isoquinolinone lactam system followed by performing a selective Schmidt reaction for isoxazolidine derivatives (two steps overall), whereas the isoxazole lactams were reached via an Ullmann-type cyclisation (three steps overall). Key observations were made regarding the stereo- and regioselectivities of the reactions employed, and small libraries of the targeted hybrids were prepared, demonstrating the general applicability of these strategies.

Abstract
Novel asymmetric aminocatalytic cycloadditions are described between formyl cycloheptatrienes and 6,6-dimethylfulvene that lead to [4 + 2], [6 + 2], and [4 + 6] cycloadducts. The unprecedented reaction course is dependent on the position of the formyl functionality in the cycloheptatriene core, and each formyl cycloheptatriene isomer displays a distinct reactivity pattern. The formyl cycloheptatriene isomers are activated by a chiral primary diamine catalyst, and the activation mode is dependent on the position of the formyl functionality relative to the cycloheptatriene core. The [4 + 2] and [6 + 2] cycloadducts are formed via rare iminocatalytic inverse electron-demand cycloadditions, while the [4 + 6] cycloadduct is formed by a normal electron-demand cycloaddition. The reactivity displayed by the different formyl cycloheptatrienes was investigated by DFT calculations. These computational studies account for the different reaction paths for the three isomeric formyl cycloheptatrienes. The aminocatalytic [4 + 2], [6 + 2], and [4 + 6] cycloadditions proceed by stepwise processes, and the interplay between conjugation, substrate distortion, and dispersive interactions between the fulvene and aminocatalyst mainly defines the outcome of each cycloaddition.

Abstract
The introduction of fluorine-containing groups into organic molecules either changes or improves the characteristics of the target compounds. On the other hand, spirocyclic-oxindoles featuring C-3 functionalized sp3-hybridized carbon atoms of three-dimensional orthogonally shaped molecules were well recognized in the core structure of varied natural products and synthetic pharmaceutical targets. Consequently, the construction of spirooxindoles by an elegant synthetic approach with efficient stereocontrol has received tremendous interest over the past decades. In this context of the synergic combination of the features associated with fluorine-containing compounds and the synthetic and medicinal efficiency associated with spirooxindoles, the stereodivergent installation of CF3 groups embedded with spirooxindoles is of increasing academic and scientific interest. This mini-review article is dedicated to demonstrating a critical overview of the recent stereoselective synthesis of spirocyclic-oxindoles featuring trifluoromethyl groups by employing the reactivity of N-2,2,2-trifluoroethylisatin ketimines as an efficient and easily prepared synthon, and covers the literature reports from 2020 to date. Besides exploring the advancements accomplished in this area, we also investigate the limitations associated with reaction discovery, mechanistic rationalization, and future applications.

Abstract
Dienones are challenging building blocks in natural product synthesis due to their high reactivity and complex synthesis. Based on previous work and own initial results, a new stereospecific sequential hydrozirconation/Pd-catalyzed acylation of enynes with acyl chlorides towards conjugated (2E,4E)-dienones is reported. We investigated a number of substrates with different alkyl and aryl substituents in the one-pot reaction and showed that regardless of the substitution pattern, the reactions lead to the stereoselective formation (≥95% (2E,4E)) of the respective dienones under mild conditions. It was found that enynes with alkyl chains gave higher yields than the corresponding aryl-substituted analogues, whereas the variation of the acyl chlorides did not affect the reaction significantly. The synthetic application is demonstrated by formation of non-natural and natural dienone-containing terpenes such as β-ionone which was available in 4 steps and 6% overall yield.

Abstract
A regio-, chem- and diastereoselective (3+2) dipolar cycloadditions of nitrone ylides from isatins with 2,4-pentadienenitriles have been developed. The reaction proceeds through the organic base DABCO catalyzed 1,6-addition to linear 2,4-pentadienenitriles, followed by the intramolecular cyclization. This procedure is capable of tolerating a relatively wide range of nitrone ylides under mild conditions, facilitating the preparation of various 1’-hydroxy-3,2’-pyrrolidinylspirooxindole derivatives.

Abstract
The kinetics and stereochemistry of the reactions of iminium ions derived from cinnamaldehydes and MacMillan's imidazolidinones with diphenyldiazomethane and aryldiazomethanes were investigated experimentally and with DFT calculations. The reactions of diphenyldiazomethane with iminium ions derived from MacMillan's second-generation catalysts gave 3-aryl-2,2-diphenylcyclopropanecarbaldehydes with yields >90 % and enantiomeric ratios of ≥90:10. Predominantly 2:1 products were obtained from the corresponding reactions with monoaryldiazomethanes. The measured rate constants are in good agreement with the rate constants derived from the one-center nucleophilicity parameters N and sN of diazomethanes and the one-center electrophilicity parameters E of iminium ions as well as with quantum chemically calculated activation energies.

Abstract
A new strategy for the synthesis of conjugated (E,E)-dienones and (E,E)-dienals via a palladium-catalyzed aerobic γ,δ-dehydrogenation of enones and enals has been developed. The method can be employed in the direct and efficient synthesis of various (E,E)-dienones and (E,E)-dienals, including non-substituted α-, β-, and γ- and/or δ-substituted (E,E)-dienones and (E,E)-dienals. The protocol is featured by the ready accessibility and elaboration of the starting materials, good functional group compatibility, and mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, the reaction is of complete E,E-stereoselectivity and uses molecular oxygen as the sole clean oxidant.

Abstract
The preparation of chiral pool-derived nitrone 3 and its use in the protecting-group free, stereoselective synthesis of a range of 1,3-disubstituted tetrahydroisoquinolines is described. Grignard reagent additions to nitrone 3 yielded trans-1,3-disubstituted N-hydroxytetrahydroisoquinolines 6 with good levels of selectivity, while 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions to this nitrone provided access to 3-(2-hydroxyalkyl)isoquinolines 12 as single diastereomers.

Abstract
Conjugated (E,E)-dienals are versatile synthetic intermediates owing to their trifunctional, electrophilic nature and the prevalence of the (E,E)-diene in a wide range of functional molecules. It is shown herein that (E,E)-dienals can be readily prepared in two palladium-catalysed steps from simple, unactivated starting materials; terminal acetylenes and acrolein can be coupled via conjugate addition, followed by alkyne isomerisation. This procedure provides a highly atom-economical, redox-neutral and practical method to prepare a range of conjugated (E,E)-dienals in good yields and diastereoselectivities.

Abstract
meso-Cyclopropyl carbaldehydes are treated in the presence of an organocatalyst with sulfenyl and selenyl chlorides to afford 1,3-chlorochalcogenated products. The transformation is achieved by a merged iminium-enamine activation. The enantioselective desymmetrization reaction, leading to three adjacent stereocenters, furnished the target products in complete regioselectivity and moderate to high diastereo- and enantioselectivities (d.r. up to 15:1 and e.r. up to 93:7).
