Abstract
Two planar BN doped benzofluorenes (BN-BkF and BN-BjF) were synthesized separately through palladium-catalyzed intramolecular C-C or C-N coupling reactions. The structures of both BN-BkF and BN-BjF are unambiguously confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Moreover, the BN unit doping leads to a much lower HOMO level and higher LUMO level as compared to their carbon analogues BkF and BjF. In comparison to BkF and BjF, both BN-BkF and BN-BjF exhibit blue shifts in their ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption and fluorescence emission spectra. Furthermore, halogenation of BN-BkF and BN-BjF afforded monohalogenated BN-benzofluorenes in good yields. These monohalogenated BN-benzofluorenes can serve as convenient intermediates for palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions to yield a series of functionalized BN-benzofluorene derivatives. The UV-vis absorption and emission spectroscopies in dichloromethane of these BN-benzofluorene derivatives were studied, and the photophysics of these compounds exhibited a high degree of substituent dependency.

Abstract
We describe herein an iridium-catalyzed highly diastereo- and enantioselective hydrogenation of 1,2-azaborines to access δ-aminoboronic esters of potential biological importance. This method represents the first enantioselective hydrogenation of a boron-containing heteroarene and features diverse substitution patterns and wide scope. The synthetic utility of our method was demonstrated by the synthesis of (-)-phenibut and the formal synthesis of (+)-3-PPP and fluvirucinine A1.

Abstract
1,2-Azaborines, a unique class of BN-isosteres of benzene, have attracted great interest across several fields. While significant advancements have been made in the postfunctionalization of 1,2-azaborines, challenges still exist for the selective functionalization of the C4 position and access to 1,2-azaborines with five or six independently installed substituents. Here we report a rapid and modular method for C3 and C4 difunctionalization of 1,2-azaborines using the palladium/norbornene (Pd/NBE) cooperative catalysis. Enabled by the C2 amide-substituted NBE, diverse 3-iodo-1,2-azaborines can be used as substrates, showing broad functional group tolerance. Besides ortho arylation, preliminary success of ortho alkylation has also been realized. In addition, a range of alkenes and nucleophiles can be employed for ipso C3 functionalization. The reaction is scalable, and various postfunctionalizations, including forming hexa-substituted 1,2-azaborines, have been achieved.

Abstract
The first aromatic Claisen rearrangement of a 1,2-azaborine is described along with a quantitative kinetic comparison of the reaction of the azaborine with its direct all-carbon analogue. The azaborine A rearranged in a clean, regioselective fashion and reacted faster than the all-carbon substrate B at all temperatures from 140-180 °C. Activation free energies were extracted from observed first-order rate constants (A: ΔG‡298K = 32.7 kcal mol-1; B: ΔG‡298K = 34.8 kcal mol-1) corresponding to a twenty fold faster rate for A at observed reaction temperatures. DFT calculations show that the rearrangement proceeds via a concerted six-membered transition state and that the electronic structure of the BN and CC rings is mostly responsible for the observed regioselectivity and relative reactivity.

Abstract
Regioselective di- and tetrabrominations of the (B,O)2-perylene 1 afford derivatives 2-4. Despite their poor solubility, 2 and 4 could be used in Stille-type coupling reactions to introduce two CCMe (5) or four CC(p-C6H4tBu) substituents (6), respectively. The alkynylated derivatives show blue-green photoluminescence with appreciable quantum efficiencies.

Abstract
A novel 9,9a-BN anthracene 5 has been synthesized by the Ru-catalyzed electrocyclization of BN-aromatic enynes. The photophysical properties of 5 are different from those of all-carbon anthracene and other reported BN-anthracenes. The reactivity of 5 has been investigated by treating 5 with organolithium compounds, Br2, or N-iodosuccinimide. The resulting halogenated compounds can be easily functionalized via cross-coupling reactions. UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy of 5 have been investigated to explore the photophysical properties of these BN-anthracenes.

Abstract
The first α-boryl diazo compound that is capable of engaging in classic synthetic organic diazo reaction chemistry is described. The diazomethyl-1,2-azaborine 1, which is a BN isostere of phenyldiazomethane, is significantly more stable than phenyldiazomethane; its reaction chemistry ranges from C-H activation, O-H activation, [3+2] cycloaddition, and halogenation, to Ru-catalyzed carbonyl olefination. The demonstrated broad range of reactivity of diazomethyl-1,2-azaborine 1 makes it an exceptionally versatile synthetic building block for the 1,2-azaborine heterocyclic motif.

Abstract
The isoelectronic replacement of C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bonds with -B[double bond, length as m-dash]N+ bonds in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is a widely used tool to prepare novel optoelectronic materials. Far less well explored are corresponding B,O-doped PAHs, although they have a similarly high application potential. We herein report on the modular synthesis of B,N- and B,O-doped PAHs through the [Au(PPh3)NTf2]-catalyzed 6-endo-dig cyclization of BN-H and BO-H bonds across suitably positioned C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C bonds in the key step. Readily available, easy-to-handle o-alkynylaryl boronic and borinic acids serve as starting materials, which are either cyclized directly or first converted into the corresponding aminoboranes and then cyclized. The reaction even tolerates bulky mesityl substituents on boron, which later kinetically protect the formed B,N/O-PAHs from hydrolysis or oxidation. Our approach is also applicable for the synthesis of rare doubly B,N/O-doped PAHs. Specifically, we prepared 1,2-B,E-naphthalenes and -anthracenes, 1,5-B2-2,6-E2-anthracenes (E = N, O) as well as B,O2-containing and unprecedented B,N,O-containing phenalenyls. Selected examples of these compounds have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography; their optoelectronic properties have been studied by cyclic voltammetry, electron spectroscopy, and quantum-chemical calculations. Using a new unsubstituted (B,O)2-perylene as the substrate for late-stage functionalization, we finally show that the introduction of two pinacolatoboryl (Bpin) substituents is possible in high yield and with perfect regioselectivity via an Ir-catalyzed C-H borylation approach.

Abstract
In this work, to make out the aryl-fusion effect on the photophysical properties of boron-pyridyl-imino-isoindoline dyes, compounds 1-5 were theoretically studied through analyses of their geometric and electronic structures, optical properties, transport abilities, and radiative (k r) and non-radiative decay rate (k nr) constants. The highest occupied molecular orbitals of aryl-fused compounds 2-5 are higher owing to the extended conjugation. Interestingly, aryl fusion in pyridyl increases the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level, while isoindoline decreases the LUMO level; thus, 4 and 5 with aryl fusion both in pyridyl and isoindoline exhibit a similar LUMO to 1. Compounds 4 and 5 show relatively low ionization potentials and high electron affinities, suggesting a better ability to inject holes and electrons. Importantly, the aryl fusion is conducive to the decrease of k IC. The designed compound 5 exhibits a red-shifted emission maximum, low λh, and low k IC, which endow it with great potential for applications in organic electronics. Our investigation provides an in-depth understanding of the aryl-fusion effect on boron-pyridyl-imino-isoindoline dyes at molecular levels and demonstrates that it is achievable.

Abstract
We provide a seminal example of the utility of the 1,2-azaborine motif as a 4C+1N+1B synthon in organic synthesis. Specifically, conditions for the practically scalable photoisomerization of 1,2-azaborine in a flow reactor are reported that furnish aminoborylated cyclobutane derivatives. The C-B bonds could also be functionalized to furnish a diverse set of highly substituted cyclobutanes.
