Abstract
A copper-catalyzed dienylation of aldehydes using propargylic carbonates in the presence of B2pin2 has been successfully developed, enabling the synthesis of a diverse range of substituted 1,3-butadienyl-2-carbinols (BDCs). This innovative approach circumvents the requirement of allene reagents and provides an alternative protocol that allows access to BDCs. In addition, the synthetic value of the products has been demonstrated in a series of further conversions, and the reaction mechanism has been proposed based on control experiments.

Abstract
Trifluoroethyl groups are important in medicinal chemistry since they can impart desirable properties, such as enhanced lipophilicity, metabolic stability, or binding affinity. A practical and scalable protocol has been developed for O-trifluoroethylation of alcohols with 2,2,2-trifluorodiazoethane using Cu(OTf)(Tol)1/2 catalyst under mild conditions. This novel approach demonstrated high reactivity and broad substrate scope toward a diverse range of alcohols, ranging from fused and bridged ring systems, linear alcohols, to even sugar motifs, which makes the protocol valuable for medicinal chemistry, material science, and other areas where the introduction of trifluoroethyl groups would be beneficial.

Abstract
Chiral five-membered cyclic tertiary alcohols are important structural motifs in functional materials, pharmaceuticals, and bioactive molecules. Hence, developing efficient methodologies for synthesizing compounds featuring these privileged scaffolds represents a crucial pursuit within synthetic chemistry. Herein, we present a regio- and enantioselective Ni-catalyzed strategy for the reductive [3 + 2] annulation of β-bromoenones with alkynes, providing convenient access to chiral five-membered cyclic tertiary alcohols with high levels of regio-, and enantioselectivity via axial chirality transfer to central chirality. The utilization of an environmentally sustainable bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) is crucial for the success of this asymmetric reductive cyclization reaction. Simultaneously, the mild reaction environment greatly enhances functional group compatibility. This has been demonstrated by the broad substrate scope, late-stage functionalizations of bioactive compounds or drug molecules, and subsequent transformations. Amongst, it is worth emphasizing that these functionally enriched chiral five-membered cyclic tertiary alcohols can efficiently participate in Diels-Alder reactions to synthesize enantioenriched polycyclic and heterocyclic molecules, thereby further validating the significance of introducing a cyclopentadiene skeleton. The preliminary mechanistic studies revealed the mode of action of B2pin2 in mononuclear Ni-catalyzed asymmetric reductive [3 + 2] annulation reactions and density functional theory (DFT) calculations clarified the origin of the experimentally observed regio- and enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Arylborane complexes ligated by N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) can be synthesized by photoirradiation of a mixture of NHC-boranes and sulfonyl(hetero)arenes. The reaction occurs under mild and convenient conditions without any photocatalyst, which are realized by a radical chain mechanism involving NHC-boryl radicals and sulfonyl radicals. This reaction offered the opportunity to reveal the photophysical property of a 2-borylnaphtho[1,2-d]thiazole derivative.

Abstract
CF2-containing compounds hold significant potential in drug discovery, organic synthesis, and materials science. However, synthesizing various CF2-containing building blocks from a single compound remains challenging. Here, we present a Cu-catalyzed, switchable defluoroborylation and hydrodefluorination of trifluoromethylated alkynes, yielding four types of CF2-containing compounds. The chemo- and regio-selective sp2/sp3 1,2-diborylation and sp2 monoborylation of 1-(trifluoromethyl)alkynes are controlled by adjusting the solvent and ligand quantity. Additionally, altering the base allows selective generation of gem-difluoroalkenes or difluoromethylalkenes. Notably, our method prevents over-defluorination of the CF3 group on unsaturated C-C bonds during nucleophilic additions, preserving the pharmaceutically valuable CF2 group. Experimental data and density functional theory (DFT) calculations elucidate the regioselectivities of Cu-Bpin addition and the regulatory role of the ligand in selective deborylation processes.

Abstract
We developed an intriguing and practical strategy for highly stereoselective assembly of multisubstituted olefins from alkynyl tetracoordinate boron species via a cyclic intermediate with 1,2-phenyl migration. We also developed a general method for the construction of deuterated trisubstituted alkenes from a cheap deuteration source, D2O, and the corresponding deuterated trisubstituted alkenes were obtained with excellent deuteration rates. This transformation features a novel reaction mechanism, exclusive stereoselectivity, and deuterated trisubstituted alkenes with excellent deuteration ratios.

Abstract
The π-bond enrichment frameworks not only serve as a crucial building block in organic synthesis but also assume a pivotal role in the fields of materials science, biomedicine, photochemistry, and other related disciplines owing to their distinctive structural characteristics. The incorporation of various substituents into the C═C double bonds of tetrasubstituted alkenes is currently a highly significant research area. However, the synthesis of tetrasubstituted alkenes with diverse substituents on double bonds poses a significant challenge in achieving stereoselectivity. Here, we reported an efficient and convergent route of Cu-catalyzed borylalkynylation of both symmetrical and unsymmetrical 1,3-diynes, B2pin2, and acetylene bromide to the construction of boronated phenyldiethynylethylene (BPDEE) derivatives with excellent chemo-, stereo-, and regioselectivities. BPDEE derivatives could transform into novel tetrasubstituted organic π-conjugated gem-diphenyldiethynylethylene (DPDEE), vinylphenyldiethynylethylene (VPDEE), and phenyltriethynylethylene (PTEE) derivatives by a stepwise process, which provides a flexible platform for the synthesis of complex π-bond enrichment frameworks that were difficult to synthesize by previous methods. The initial optical characterization revealed that the synthesized molecules exhibited aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties, which further establishes the groundwork for future applications and enriches and advances the field of functional π-conjugated frameworks research.

Abstract
Borate crystals can be chemically and functionally modified by the fluorination strategy, which encourages the identification of emerging fluorooxoborates with a structure and set of characteristics not seen in any other oxide parents. However, the bulk of fluorooxoborates have been found accidentally, rational methods of synthesis are required, particularly for the infrequently occurring poly-fluorinated components. Herein, we reported the use of bifluoride salts as a potent source of fluorine to prepare fluorooxoborates that contain rarely tri-fluorinated [BF3 X] (X=O and CH3 ) tetrahedra and eleven compounds were found. We identified the optical properties of the organofluorinated group [CH3 BF3 ] and their potential for nonlinear optics for the first time. Among these, two non-centrosymmetric components hold potential for the production of 266 nm harmonic coherent light for nonlinear optics, and more crucially, have the benefit of growing large size single crystals. Our study establishes experimental conditions for the coexistence of the diverse functional groups, enabling the production of poly-fluorinated optical crystals.

Abstract
Allylation and propargylation are two powerful synthetic strategies for making new substances that have been of significant importance in chemistry, medicine, and material fields. Conventional tactics employ various preformed allylation and propargylation reagents. In this study, a conceptually novel copper-catalyzed and B2pin2-mediated Umpolung reactivity of propargylic carbonates has been achieved for the first time, realizing both allylation and propargylation of aldehydes and ketones without additional reductants. Three types of allylation products and one type of propargylation product are generated efficiently, and all allylation products are formed with syn-configurations predominantly. The choice of ligands plays a vital role in modulating the Umpolung modes. The synthetic applications have been demonstrated in a myriad of further transformations including natural product synthesis, and systematic mechanistic studies have been conducted to reveal detailed insights into the Umpolung processes.

Abstract
Catalytic asymmetric hydroboration of fluoroalkyl-substituted alkenes is a straightforward approach to access chiral small molecules possessing both fluorine and boron atoms. However, enantioselective hydroboration of fluoroalkyl-substituted alkenes without fluorine elimination has been a long-standing challenge in this field. Herein, a copper-catalyzed hydroboration of difluoroalkyl-substituted internal alkenes with high levels of regio- and enantioselectivities is reported. The native carbonyl directing group, copper hydride system, and bisphosphine ligand play crucial roles in suppressing the undesired fluoride elimination. This atom-economic protocol provides a practical synthetic platform to obtain a wide scope of enantioenriched secondary boronates bearing the difluoromethylene moieties under mild conditions. Synthetic applications including functionalization of biorelevant molecules, versatile functional group interconversions, and preparation of difluoroalkylated Terfenadine derivative are also demonstrated.

Abstract
ConspectusFluorine-containing compounds are extensively involved in various fields originating from intriguing and unique characteristics of fluorine atom; notably, in pharmaceuticals, the involvement of a fluorine atom or a fluorine-containing group is a chief technique for improving the pesticide effect and developing new drugs. Difluorocarbene, one of the most important and powerful fluorine-containing reagents, is widely employed and studied in many areas mainly to assemble gem-difluoromethyl molecules, including but not limited to the abundant reactions between difluorocarbene with nucleophilic substrates, Wittig reaction with ketones or aldehydes, cascade reaction with both a nucleophile and an electrophile, or [2+1] cycloaddition with alkenes or alkynes. However, its unconventional and intriguing protocols beyond as a difluoromethyl synthon have rarely been studied, and thus, it is highly desired given its abundance, inexpensiveness and peculiar properties. In this Account, we mainly discuss our discovery with unconventional transformations of difluorocarbene, instead of as a sole difluoromethyl source (different from other dihalocarbene), actually can serve as an electron acceptor to activate C-X bonds (X = N and O) and thus promote a myriad of fascinating transformations for the assembly of versatile valuable products with various aza-compounds (primary/secondary/tertiary amines as well as NH3 and NaNH2 and so on) and aliphatic ethers in the absence of transition metals and expensive ligands. Inspired by the electron-deficient characteristics of difluorocarbene, we first found that the isocyanides could be readily formed in situ when the unoccupied orbital of difluorocarbene meets the lone-pair of primary amines; in basic condition, a cascade defluorination and cyclizations could afford plethora of valuable N-containing heterocycles. Meanwhile, we disclosed that cyano anion could be accessible in situ as well when difluorocarbene and NaNH2 or NH3 were mixed up in suitable basic conditions, and thus a series of aryl nitrile compounds were obtained in the presence of Pd catalysis and ArI. Interestingly, when difluorocarbene encountered secondary amines, formamides were rendered under mild reactions. Of note, concomitant functionalizations of C and N moieties via cleavage of the unstrained C(sp3)-N bond in the absence of metal and oxidant are sparce, which indeed significantly add versatility and diversity to products. Gratifyingly, by uitilizing difluorocarbene and cyclic tertiary amines, we achieved difluorocarbene-mediated deconstructive functionalizations for the first time, showing successive C(sp3)-N bond scission of amines and simultaneous functionalization of C and N atoms which would be introduced into the products in the absence of transition metals and oxidants. This method provides a brand-new while very universal synthetic pathway to selectively cleave inert unactivated Csp3-N bonds, in which halodifluoromethyl reagents act as both C1 synthon and halo (Cl, Br, I) sources. Fascinatingly, nitrogen ylides are generated in situ from difluorocarbene and tertiary amines, and an intriguing and universal approach for deaminative arylation or alkenylation of tertiary amines was disclosed for the first time in appropriate basic conditions, which represents an intriguing reaction mode to lead to a formal transition-metal free Suzuki cross coupling. Besides, we also disclosed that difluorocarbene could proceed novel atom recombination to render meaningful 2-fluoroindoles or 3-(2,2-difluoroethyl)-2-fluoroindoles from ortho-vinylanilines, 3-fluorined oxindoles from 2-aminoarylketones, in which difluorocarbene acts as a C1 synthon and F1 source simultaneously. Last but not the least, we recently found that the lone-pair-electron of oxygen could trap difluorocarbene as well to form oxonium ylide, which eventually leads to C-O bond cleavage with the formation of difluoromethyl ethers.

Abstract
A broad range of aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic boronic acids were successfully homologated using trifluorodiazoethane in the presence of BINOL derivatives to provide the corresponding chiral trifluoromethyl containing boronic acid derivatives in high yields and excellent enantioselectivity. The in situ conversion of the chiral transient boronic acids to the corresponding alcohols or β-CF3 carboxylates are also demonstrated.

Abstract
The exploration of the reactivity of gem-difluorinated small-size rings has continuously drawn attention in recent years but is limited to three-membered carbocycles. Herein we report a copper-catalyzed reaction of gem-fluorinated cyclobutenes with bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2). A sequence of defluoroborylation and a ring-opening process produces B,F-bifunctional 1,3-dienes in a stereoselective manner. The transformation together with the efficient downstream coupling of the boronate and the fluoride moieties collectively constitutes a modular route to highly functionalized and stereocontrolled 1,3-dienes.
