Abstract
Carbon anions formed via the addition of Grignard reagents to SP-vinyl phosphinates were modified with electrophilic reagents to afford organophosphorus compounds with diverse carbon skeletons. The electrophiles included acids, aldehydes, epoxy groups, chalcogens and alkyl halides. When alkyl halides were used, bis-alkylated products were afforded. Substitution reactions or polymerization occurred when the reaction was applied to vinyl phosphine oxides.

Abstract
Direct phosphorylation of benzylic C-H bonds was achieved in a biphasic system under transition metal-free conditions. A selective radical/radical sp3C-H/P(O)-H cross coupling was proposed, and various substituted toluenes were applicable. The transformation provided a promising method for constructing sp3C-P bonds.

Abstract
AbstractCopper(II) on 4 Å molecular sieve was found to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst in the addition of different H-phosphinates and secondary phosphine oxides to phenylacetylene. All hydrophosphinylation reactions were completely regioselective, as only β-isomers were formed, and the E-alkenylphosphinates and E-alkenylphosphine oxides were synthesized in moderate to excellent yields. The catalyst could be reused multiple times in the reaction.

Abstract
The title compound, C25H22NO2P, was synthesized in high yield by a three-component Kabachnik-Fields reaction of diphenylphosphine oxide, salicylaldehyde and aniline in dry toluene at room temperature. It precipitates as racemic crystals, in which strong hydrogen bonds between the hydroxy group and the P=O group of a neighbouring molecule form one-dimensional heterochiral chains along the crystallographic a axis, with an O···O separation of 2.568 (2) Å. The pseudo-tetrahedral environment of the P atom is distorted, with O-P-C bond angles significantly larger than the C-P-C angles.

Abstract
The title compound, C14H11Cl2OP, was synthesized by the reaction of diphenylphosphine oxide with 1,2-dichloroethyne under CuI catalysis. The reaction provided the Z isomer regioselectively. Two O—P—C bond angles [114.3 (1) and 112.5 (1)°] are significantly larger than the C—P—C [107.7 (1), 105.6 (1) and 106.6 (1)°] and another O—P—C angle [109.5 (1)°], indicating significant distortion of the tetrahedral configuration of the P atom. In the crystal, molecules are linked by weak intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into centrosymmetric dimers, which are connected by further C—H⋯O interactions into chains along [101].

Abstract
We have developed efficient copper-catalyzed additions of P(O)H compounds to alkynes, and the reactions provided the regio- and stereoselective E-alkenylphosphine oxides under catalysis of the commercially available and inexpensive copper catalyst system CuI/ethylenediamine. This finding is the first example of copper-catalyzed hydrophosphinylation of alkynes to synthesize alkenylphosphine oxides.

Abstract
Bicyclooctanols 3 and 4 were formed with control of the stereochemistry at C8 by using an aluminium enolate of cyclohexanone in 1,2-dimethoxyethane. Bicyclooctanols 1 and 3 were stable towards aqueous hydrochloric acid for short times (< 3.5 h), and ring open to a diastereomeric mix of monoalkylated 5 under protic or aprotic conditions in the presence of base (NaOH or lithium diisopropylamide). The rate of ring opening appears to be dependent on reaction temperature. Bicyclooctanols 1, 3, and 4 displayed remarkable stability when heated at reflux in benzene, whereas use of ethanol prompted stereoselective ring opening of 1 and 3 to give individual diastereomers of monoalkylated 5 and ring opening of 4 to give a 50 : 50 mix of diastereomers of 5. This unexpected result was attributed to the stereochemistry of the bicyclooctanol and placement of hydrogen-bonding sites.

Abstract
A substantial acceleration of the Baylis-Hillman reaction between cyclohexenone and benzaldehyde has been observed when the reaction is conducted in water. Several different amine catalysts were tested, and as with reactions conducted in the absence of solvent, 3-hydroxyquinuclidine was found to be the optimum catalyst in terms of rate. The reaction has been extended to other aldehyde electrophiles including pivaldehyde. Attempts to extend this work to acrylates was only partially successful as rapid hydrolysis of methyl and ethyl acrylates occurred under the base-catalyzed and water-promoted conditions. However, tert-butyl acrylates were sufficiently stable to couple with relatively reactive electrophiles. Further studies on the use of polar solvents revealed that formamide also provided significant acceleration and the use of 5 equiv of formamide (optimum amount) gave faster rates than reactions conducted in water. Using formamide, further acceleration was achieved in the presence of Yb(OTf)(3) (5 mol %). The scope of the new conditions was tested with a range of Michael acceptors and benzaldehyde and with a range of electrophiles and ethyl acrylate. The origin of the rate acceleration is discussed.

Abstract
A convenient method for the preparation of the hitherto unknown chiral alpha-methylene beta-lactam derivatives 5a,b is reported. The optically active alpha-methylene beta-lactams 5a-c, and their corresponding amino acids 6a-c have been readily made available through lipase-catalyzed kinetic resolution in high enantiomeric purity (up to 99% ee). The N-substituted beta-lactam derivatives 4a, b and 10 are not accepted by the lipases and were prepared in optically active form by chemical transformation.
