Abstract
Since the beginning of the millennium, organocatalysis has been gaining a predominant role in asymmetric synthesis and it is, nowadays, a foundation of catalysis. Synergistic catalysis, combining two or more different catalytic cycles acting in concert, exploits the vast knowledge acquired in organocatalysis and other fields to perform reactions that would be otherwise impossible. Merging organocatalysis with photo-, metallo- and organocatalysis itself, researchers have ingeniously devised a range of activations. This feature review, focusing on selected synergistic catalytic approaches, aims to provide a flavor of the creativity and innovation in the area, showing ground-breaking examples of organocatalysts, such as proline derivatives, hydrogen bond-mediated, Cinchona alkaloids or phosphoric acids catalysts, which work cooperatively with different catalytic partners.

Abstract
The physical factors governing the Diels-Alder reactivity of (2,7)pyrenophanes have been computationally explored using state-of-the-art Density Functional Theory calculations. It is found that the [4 + 2]-cycloaddition reactions between these cyclophanes and tetracyanoethylene, which occur concertedly through highly asynchronous transition states, proceed with lower activation barriers and are more exothermic than the analogous process involving the parent planar pyrene. The influence of the bent equilibrium geometry of the pyrenophane as a function of the length of the bridge as well as the nature of the tether on the transformation are analyzed in detail. By means of the Activation Strain Model of reactivity and the Energy Decomposition Analysis methods, a detailed quantitative understanding of the reactivity of this particular family of cyclophanes is presented.

Abstract
For the first time it is shown that exceptionally electron-rich arene rings can be fluorinated exclusively during the reductive elimination reactions of diaryliodonium fluorides. The 5-methoxy[2.2]paracyclophan-4-yl directing group simultaneously reduces unproductive aryne chemistry and eliminates ligand exchange reactions by a combination of steric and electronic effects. Use of the cyclophane directing group permits an unprecedented degree of control in fluorination reactions of diaryliodonium salts.

Abstract
The aryl[2.2]paracyclophane backbone, which is a "hybrid" of a configurationally rigid [2.2]paracyclophanyl unit and a biphenyl unit, is proposed as a new source for the chiral ligands. Classification of such ligands in accordance with mutual arrangement of the functional substituents and their nature is also introduced. Key strategic approaches to the synthesis of regioisomeric biphenols and hydroxyaldehydes, including Suzuki cross-coupling reaction, lithiation/electrophilic quench, and chiral resolution, are elaborated. Examples of their further modification and application of several O,O- and N,O-ligands as chiral inductors in asymmetric catalysis are described.
