Abstract
An unprecedented chemodivergent strategy for parallel kinetic resolution (PKR) is disclosed through which two planar chiral products bearing different structures were simultaneously afforded with opposite stereoselectivities. Two achiral esters are activated by one single chiral N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalyst to react with the different enantiomers of the racemic imine substrate in a parallel fashion. Two products bearing distinct structures and opposite stereoselectivities are respectively afforded from the same reaction system in good to excellent yields, enantio- and diastereoselectivities. Control experiments and kinetic studies are carried out to probe the kinetic and dynamic properties during the reaction progress. The planar chiral pyridine and lactam products show interesting applications in both asymmetric synthesis and pesticide development.

Abstract
Four pyridines decorated with π-donating iminophosphorano substituents (R3PN-) in the 4-position were assessed as acylation catalysts. These catalysts display high sensitivity to the groups at phosphorus, with activities that are well correlated to the corresponding Hammett-type substituent constants (σp+), and can achieve superior activity over the most active dialkylamino-substituted pyridines. Iminophosphorano-substituted pyridines represent an easily accessible, tunable, and highly active class of nucleophilic organocatalysts.

Abstract
A scalable synthesis of chiral Vedejs-type DMAP catalysts is reported. The key step of the synthesis is amination of the enantiomerically pure 4-chloropyridine derivative using well-defined ZnCl2(amine)2 complexes. A series of Zn(II)-amine complexes have been synthesized to explore the scope of the ZnCl2-mediated amination of 4-halopyridines. Mechanistic studies support a Zn(II)-facilitated nucleophilic aromatic substitution as a plausible mechanism for the chlorine-to-amine exchange.

Abstract
A series of 4-pyrrolidinopyridine (4-PPY) C-3 carboxamides containing peptide-based side chains have been synthesised and evaluated in the kinetic resolution of a small library of chiral benzylic secondary alcohols. A key design element was the incorporation of a tryptophan residue in the peptide side chain for promoting π-stacking between peptide side chain and the pyridinium ring of the N-acyl intermediate, in which modelling was used as a structure-based guiding tool. Together, a catalyst containing a LeuTrp-N-Boc side chain (catalyst 8) was identified that achieved s-values up to and in slight excess of 10. A transition-state model based on the modelling is proposed to explain the origin of enantioselectivity. This study establishes the usefulness of modelling as a structure-based guiding tool for enantioselectivity optimization as well as the potential for developing scalable peptide-based DMAP-type catalysts for large-scale resolution work.
