Abstract
We study the spin-dependent stereodynamics of the S + H2 → SH + H reaction by using full-dimensional quantum dynamics calculations with zero total nuclear angular momentum along the triplet 3A″ states and singlet 1A' states. We find that the interplay between the electronic spin direction and the molecular geometry has a measurable influence on the singlet-triplet intersystem crossing reaction probabilities. Our results show that for some incident scattering angles in the body-fixed frame, the relative difference in intersystem crossing reaction probabilities (as determined between spin up and spin down initial states) can be as large as 15%. Our findings are an ab initio demonstration of spin-dependent nonadiabatic dynamics, which we hope will shine light as far as understanding the chiral-induced spin selectivity effect.

Abstract
The two-state non-adiabatic potential energy matrices of the CaH2+ system are calculated via a diabatization approach by using a neural network model. Subsequently, the adiabatic and non-adiabatic potential energy surfaces (PESs) are constructed based on these non-adiabatic potential energy matrices. Furthermore, based on the adiabatic and non-adiabatic PESs, the Ca+(4s2S) + H2(X1Σ+g) → H(2S) + CaH+(X1Σ+) reaction is studied using the time-dependent wave packet method. Comparative analysis of the experimental and theoretical integral reaction cross-sections (ICSs) indicates that the maximum deviation between the results obtained from the adiabatic PES and the corresponding experimental value is 12.7 bohr2; in contrast, the maximum discrepancy between the theoretical result derived from the non-adiabatic PES and the experimental value is merely 0.42 bohr2. The potential well along the reaction path acts as a 'filter', selectively guiding intermediates with longer lifetimes in the potential well back to the reactant channel. This phenomenon indicates that the non-adiabatic effects significantly influence the reaction dynamics of the CaH2+ system.

Abstract
Quantum time-dependent wave packet dynamics studies on the nonadiabatic Be+(2P) + HD → BeH+/BeD+ + D/H reaction are performed for the first time employing recently constructed diabatic potential energy surfaces. Strong intramolecular isotope effects and unusual results are presented, which are attributed to the dynamic effects of shallow wells induced by avoided crossing on the diagonal V22d surface. The BeH+ + D and BeD+ + H channels are dominated by high-J and low-J partial waves, respectively. The BeD+/BeH+ branching ratio is larger than 10 at low energy and gradually decreases with increasing collision energy. The BeH+ product is primarily distributed at low vibrational states, whereas there exists an obvious population inversion of vibrational states on the BeD+ product. The results of differential cross sections suggest that the formation of the BeH+ + D channel favors a direct reaction process, while the BeD+ + H channel is mainly generated by the complex-forming mechanism.

Abstract
Time-dependent wave packet calculations are carried out for two reaction channels of the non-adiabatic Na(3p) + HD → NaH/NaD + D/H reaction. The potential well on the excited state potential energy surface makes the reaction preferable to proceed through the insertion reaction path. The dominance of the NaD + H reaction channel and product rotational state distributions are found to be in agreement with the characteristics of typical adiabatic insertion reactions. However, significant forward scattering peaks in the differential cross sections (DCS) are found to be inconsistent with the forward-backward symmetric scattering characteristic of typical adiabatic insertion reactions, which indicate that the Na(3p) + HD reaction is dominated by a direct reaction mechanism. The comparison between adiabatic and non-adiabatic calculated DCSs reveals that the non-adiabatic couplings in the reaction could reduce the lifetime of the intermediate complex. Finally, the insertion-abstraction mechanism is put forward for the non-adiabatic Na(3p) + HD reaction.

Abstract
The gas-phase kinetics of S(3P) atoms with H2 and D2 have been studied via the laser flash photolysis-resonance fluorescence technique. S atoms were generated by pulsed photolysis of CS2 at 193 nm and monitored by time-resolved fluorescence at 181 nm. The rate coefficients for H2 (k1) and D2 (k2), respectively, are summarized as k1(600-1110 K) = 3.0 × 10-9 exp-1.317×105-2.703×107K/T8.314 T/K cm3 molecule-1 s-1 and k2(770-1110 K) = 2.2 × 10-14 (T/298 K)3.55 exp(-5420 K/T) cm3 molecule-1 s-1. Error limits are discussed in the text. The rate coefficients for formation of SH(SD) + H(D) on a newly developed triplet potential energy surface were characterized via ring polymer molecular dynamics and canonical variational transition-state theory. There is excellent agreement above about 1000 K between theory and experiment. At lower temperatures, the experimental rate coefficient is substantially larger than the results computed for the adiabatic reaction, suggesting a significant role for intersystem crossing to the singlet potential energy surface at lower temperatures.

Abstract
A simple model potential is proposed to describe the dynamical barrier in the mean interaction potential at small distances between the reactants in S(1D) + HD(1Σ, v = 0, j = 0) reaction. The statistical theory of collision complex formation and complex decay is applied to calculate the total reaction cross sections and the cross sections for SH and SD productions in the range of low collision energies Ec = (0.4-60) meV. The results are compared with measured cross sections and results of hyperspherical close coupling calculations. As a check of consistency the same comparisons are presented for the case of S(1D) + H2(1Σ, v = 0, j = 0) reaction.

Abstract
We constructed a new global potential energy surface (PES) for the electronic ground state ((1)A') of H2S based on 21,300 accurate ab initio energy points over a large configuration space. The ab initio energies are obtained from multireference configuration interaction calculations with a Davidson correction using basis sets of quadruple zeta quality. The neural network method is applied to fit the PES, and the root mean square error of fitting is small (1.68 meV). Time-dependent wave packet studies for the S((1)D) + H2(X(1)Σg(+)) → H((2)S) + SH(X(2)Π) reaction on the new PES are conducted to study the reaction dynamics. The calculated integral cross sections decrease with increasing collision energy and remain fairly constant within the high collision energy range. Both forward and backward scatterings can be observed as expected for a barrierless reaction with a deep well on the PES. The calculated integral cross sections and differential cross sections are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Abstract
A non-Born–Oppenheimer (BO) investigation using coherent switching with decay of mixing method is carried out for both reactive non-charge transfer and charge transfer channels of reaction D+ + H2 (v, j = 0). For the non-charge transfer channel, it is found that the non-BO effect has a small influence on the differential cross section, but it has a large impact on the rotational polarization of the HD product, which is reflected by the joint distribution P(θr, ϕr). And it is also found that the polarization of the charge transfer products shows a quite different form. The rotational polarizations are also investigated at various collision energies and initial vibrational states for both reactive channels.

Abstract
This is the second in a series of papers detailing a MATLAB based implementation of the finite element method applied to collinear triatomic reactions. Here, we extend our previous work to reactions on coupled potential energy surfaces. The divergence of the probability current density field associated with the two electronically adiabatic states allows us to visualize in a novel way where and how nonadiabaticity occurs. A two-dimensional investigation gives additional insight into nonadiabaticity beyond standard one-dimensional models. We study the F((2)P) + HCl and F((2)P) + H2 reactions as model applications. Our publicly available code (http://www2.chem.umd.edu/groups/alexander/FEM) is general and easy to use.

Abstract
Time-dependent wave packet (TDWP) and quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) calculations have been carried out for the reaction S(3P) + HD(X1Σg+) at the lowest 13A″ state with both rotational and vibrational excitations of reactant HD. The calculated integral cross sections from QCT agree fairly well with the TDWP calculations. The reaction probability results from TDWP show that the reaction displays a strong tendency to the SD channel. When the reactant HD is vibrationally excited, both channels are promoted apparently. The vibration of the HD bond tends to reduce the difference of reactivity between the two channels. The detailed state-to-state differential cross sections (DCSs) are calculated. These distributions show some significant characters of the barrier-type reactions. At the same time, the scattering width of product SD has a certain relationship with its rotation excitation. For the vector properties, P(θr), P(r), and P(θr,r) distributions are calculated by QCT, and the increased collision energy weakens the rotational polarization of the SD molecule.

Abstract
The quantum time dependent wave packet (TDWP) and quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) calculations were carried out to study the exchange reaction H(2S) + H′S(2Π) → HS(2Π) + H′(2S) on the 1A′ potential energy surface (PES). The integral cross sections of the H + H′S (v = j = 0) → HS + H′ reaction calculated by the two methods were presented. The results reveal that the integral cross sections (ICS) decrease with the collision energy increasing. The result of the QCT calculations is reasonably consistent with the time-dependent wave packet. Moreover, the differential cross sections (DCS) were calculated by the QCT method at the four different collision energies, which display a forward–backward symmetry. A long-lifetime H2S intermediate complex of the exchange reaction was found according to the trajectories. In the stereodynamics investigation, the polar and dihedral angle distribution functions were calculated, which have the distinct oscillations. The oscillations could be attributed to the deep well on the 1A′ PES. However, based on the polar-angle and dihedral angle distribution functions, it could be predicted that the main product rotational angular momentum preferentially point to the positive or negative direction of y-axes.

Abstract
Cumulative reaction probabilities (CRPs) at various total angular momenta have been calculated for the barrierless reaction S((1)D) + H(2) → SH + H at total energies up to 1.2 eV using three different theoretical approaches: time-independent quantum mechanics (QM), quasiclassical trajectories (QCT), and statistical quasiclassical trajectories (SQCT). The calculations have been carried out on the widely used potential energy surface (PES) by Ho et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 116, 4124 (2002)] as well as on the recent PES developed by Song et al. [J. Phys. Chem. A 113, 9213 (2009)]. The results show that the differences between these two PES are relatively minor and mostly related to the different topologies of the well. In addition, the agreement between the three theoretical methodologies is good, even for the highest total angular momenta and energies. In particular, the good accordance between the CRPs obtained with dynamical methods (QM and QCT) and the statistical model (SQCT) indicates that the reaction can be considered statistical in the whole range of energies in contrast with the findings for other prototypical barrierless reactions. In addition, total CRPs and rate coefficients in the range of 20-1000 K have been calculated using the QCT and SQCT methods and have been found somewhat smaller than the experimental total removal rates of S((1)D).

Abstract
We report integral cross sections for the S(1D2)+HD(j=0)→DS+H and HS+D reaction channels obtained through crossed-beam experiments reaching collision energies as low as 0.46 meV and from adiabatic time-independent quantum-mechanical calculations. While good overall agreement with experiment at energies above 10 meV is observed, neither the product channel branching ratio nor the low-energy resonancelike features in the HS+D channel can be theoretically reproduced. A nonadiabatic treatment employing highly accurate singlet and triplet potential energy surfaces is clearly needed to resolve the complex nature of the reaction dynamics.

Abstract
We performed the nonadiabatic time-dependent wave packet calculation on the four diabatic potential energy surfaces, which have the different barrier height, to investigate the contribution of the noncollinear channel for the F (2P) + H2/D2 (v = j = 0) reactions. The reaction probabilities, integral cross-sections, and rate constants are presented. The results indicate that the probabilities as the function of the collision energy have an obvious translation. The reactive activity of the reactions comes from the noncollinear reactive channel. The bent barrier height would decrease the reactive activity. The integral cross-sections are in the order of AWS < LWA-5 < LWA-78 ≈ MASW, which is opposite to that of the bent barrier height. At the lower temperature, the difference of the rate constants is unambiguous. As the temperature increases, the difference reduces. At the higher temperature, the rate constants computed on the four potential energy surfaces are close.

Abstract
Temperature dependence of the rate constant of the O (3 P ) + HCl → OH + Cl reaction was calculated for 200–700 K range within the quantum instanton approximation using the 3A″ potential energy surface. Curvature of the Arrhenius plot arising from quantum effects in the hydrogen exchange reaction was observed. Results of the present method were found to significantly improve upon those obtained within the ICVT/μOMT method. The errors pertaining to the present method were estimated.

Abstract
In this work, we employed the quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) method to study the vector correlations and the influence of the reagent initial rotational quantum number j for the reaction He + T2+ (v = 0, j = 0–3) → HeT+ + T on a new potential energy surface (PES). The PES was improved by Aquilanti co-workers (Chem. Phys. Lett. 2009. 469: 26–30). The polarization-dependent differential cross sections (PDDCSs) and the distributions of P(θr), P([Formula: see text]r), and P(θr, [Formula: see text]r) are presented in this work. The plots of the PDDCSs provide us with abundant information about the distribution of the product angular momentum polarization. The P(θr) is used to describe the correlation between k (the relative velocity of the reagent) and j′ (the product rotational angular momentum). The distribution of dihedral angle P([Formula: see text]r) shows the k–k′–j′ (k′ refers to the relative velocity of the product) correlation. The PDDCS calculations illustrate that the product of this reaction is mainly backward scatter and it has the strongest polarization in the backward and sideways scattering directions. At the same time, the results of the P([Formula: see text]r) demonstrate that the product HeT+ tends to be oriented along the positive direction of the y axis and it tends to rotate right-handedly in planes parallel to the scattering plane. Moreover, the distribution of the P(θr) manifests that the product angular momentum is aligned along different directions relative to k. The direction of the product alignment may be perpendicular, opposite, or parallel to k. Moreover, our calculations are independent of the initial rotational quantum number.

Abstract
The nine-dimension quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) calculations have been carried out for the title reaction with a global potential energy surface (PES) constructed by Corchado and Espinosa-García (J Chem Phys106:4013, 1997). The detailed dynamics calculations cover the specific collision energies falling in the range of 0.62–3.04 eV, which are sufficient to fit the calculated reactive cross-sections into a barrier-type excitation function and to obtain the thermal rate constants. The present QCT rate constants are in good agreement with the recent quantum dynamics (QD) results, both of which are much lower than that of the previous variational transition state theory (VTST).

Abstract
The nonadiabatic quantum dynamics and Coriolis coupling effect in chemical reaction have been reviewed, with emphasis on recent progress in using the time-dependent wave packet approach to study the Coriolis coupling and nonadiabatic effects, which was done by K. L. Han and his group. Several typical chemical reactions, for example, H+D(2), F+H(2)/D(2)/HD, D(+)+H(2), O+H(2), and He+H(2)(+), have been discussed. One can find that there is a significant role of Coriolis coupling in reaction dynamics for the ion-molecule collisions of D(+)+H(2), Ne+H(2)(+), and He+H(2)(+) in both adiabatic and nonadiabatic context.

Abstract
Quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) calculations of total reaction probabilities and vibrationally state-resolved reaction probabilities at total angular momentum J = 0 as a function of collision energy for the C(1D) + H2 (v = 0, j = 0) reactions have been performed on an ab initio potential-energy surface [ J. Chem. Phys. 2001, 115, 10701]. In addition, the integral cross sections as a function of collision energy have been carried out for the same reaction. The product rotational alignments have also been calculated, which are almost invariant with respect to collision energies.

A new specific mechanism for thioacid/azide amidation: electronic and solvent effects. OPEN CHEM 2010. Abstract
AbstractDetailed theoretical studies of azide/thioacid amidation are performed using density functional theory. The calculated results indicate that electronic properties of azide have significant effects on reaction pathways, which result in two distinct mechanisms for electron-rich and electron-poor azide coupling in the base-promoted amidation. For electron-rich azide amidation, after the concerted [3+2] cycloaddition of azide/thiocarboxylate, a new reaction channel is found challenging that recently mentioned, which follows two consecutive, unimolecular reactions with very low activation barriers (−1) to give an anionic amide and a nitrous sulfide (N2S). Distinct from electron-rich azide amidation, electron-poor azide first couples with thiocarboxylate to form a linear stable adduct, and then passes through the transition state of the rate-controlling step to afford the anionic amide, rather than the thiatrazoline. The free energy barrier of this step is 4.2 kcal mol−1 lower than that previously proposed. Comparatively, the azide/thioacid amidations undergo the concerted [3+2] cycloaddition and the subsequent retro-[3+2] cycloaddition process to give cis-enol form of the amide, which have higher activation barriers than those in the based-promoted amidation. Solvent effects investigated indicate that non-polar solvents, such as chloroform, are more preferable for the base-promoted thioacid/azide amidation.

Abstract
AbstractThe mechanism of the dirhodium tetracarboxylate-catalyzed O-H insertion reaction of diazomethane and methyl diazoacetate with H2O has been studied in detail using DFT calculations. The rhodium catalyst and a diazo compound couple to form a rhodiumcarbene complex. Of two reaction pathways of the Rh(II)-carbene complex with H2O, the stepwise pathway is more preferable than the concerted one. Formation of a Rh(II) complex-associated oxonium ylide is an exothermal process, and direct decomposition of the ylide gives a very high barrier. The high barriers for the 1,2-H shift of Rh(II) complex-associated oxonium ylides make the ylides become stable intermediates in both reactions, especially for the reactions in solution. Difficulty in formation of a free oxonium ylide supports experimental results, indicating that the Rh(II) complex-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of a diazo compound proceeds via a Rh(II) complex-associated oxonium ylide rather than via a free oxonium ylide.
