Abstract
We have elaborated polyaniline films on ITO substrate (indium tin oxide), by electrochemical process in different electrolytes (HCl, H2SO4, HNO3, and H3BO3), which allowed us to study the effect of the counter ion on electrochemical energy storage performances of polyaniline as electrode material in supercapacitors. The study of the different obtained films performances was carried out by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge method and is interpreted by the SEM technique. We found that there is a clear dependence on the specific capacitance of the counter ion. Justified by its porous structure, the PANI/ITO electrode doped with SO42- has the highest specific capacitance, 57.3 mF/cm2 at a current density of 0.2 mA/cm2 and 64.8 mF/cm2 at 5 mV/s. The deep analysis by Dunn's method allowed us to conclude that the faradic process dominates the energy storage in the case of PANI/ITO electrode elaborated in boric acid (99%). On the contrary, the capacitive character is the most contributory in the case of electrodes elaborated in H2SO4, HCl, and HNO3. The study at different potentials (0.80, 0.85, 0.90, 0.95, and 1.0 V/SCE) from 0.2 M monomer aniline showed that the deposition at 0.95 V/SCE leads to higher specific capacitance (24.3 mF/cm2 at scan rate 5 mV/s and 23.6 mF/cm2 at 0.2 mA/cm2) with a coulombic efficiency of 94%. By varying the concentration of the monomer while keeping a potential fixed at 0.95 V/SCE, we also found that the specific capacitance increases with monomeric concentration.

Enhanced Adsorptive Properties and Pseudocapacitance of Flexible Polyaniline-Activated Carbon Cloth Composites Synthesized Electrochemically in a Filter-Press Cell. MATERIALS 2019; 12:ma12162516. Abstract
Electrochemical polymerization is known to be a suitable route to obtain conducting polymer-carbon composites uniformly covering the carbon support. In this work, we report the application of a filter-press electrochemical cell to polymerize polyaniline (PAni) on the surface of large-sized activated carbon cloth (ACC) by simple galvanostatic electropolymerization of an aniline-containing H2SO4 electrolyte. Flexible composites with different PAni loadings were synthesized by controlling the treatment time and characterized by means of Scanning Electron microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), physical adsorption of gases, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), cyclic voltammetry and direct current (DC) conductivity measurements. PAni grows first as a thin film mostly deposited inside ACC micro- and mesoporosity. At prolonged electropolymerization time, the amount of deposited PAni rises sharply to form a brittle and porous, thick coating of nanofibrous or nanowire-shaped structures. Composites with low-loading PAni thin films show enhanced specific capacitance, lower sheet resistance and faster adsorption kinetics of Acid Red 27. Instead, thick nanofibrous coatings have a deleterious effect, which is attributed to a dramatic decrease in the specific surface area caused by strong pore blockage and to the occurrence of contact electrical resistance. Our results demonstrate that mass-production restrictions often claimed for electropolymerization can be easily overcome.

Abstract
For the first time, the resonance Raman spectroscopy was used to characterize polymers derived from meta- and para-nitroanilines. In order to improve the polymer structure analysis, other techniques were also used such as FTIR, UV-vis, XRD, XPS, EPR and N K-XANES. The insertion of strong electron-withdrawing groups (NO2) in polyaniline (PANI)-like backbone causes drastic changes in the lower energy charge transfer states, related to the polymer effective conjugation length. The resonance Raman data show that the NO2 moiety has a minor contribution on the CT state in poly(meta-nitroaniline), PMN, while in the poly(para-nitroaniline), PPN, the quinoid structure induced by para-substitution increases the charge density of NO2 groups, causing a more localized chromophore. The characterization of the imine nitrogen and of the protonated segments was done by XPS, N K-XANES and EPR spectroscopies and the lower polymerization degree of PPN, in comparison to PMN, is confirmed by XRD and TG data.
