Abstract
Combining neutron scattering and fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations allows unraveling structural and dynamical features of polymer melts at different length scales, mainly in the intermolecular and monomeric range. Here we present the methodology developed by us and the results of its application during the last years in a variety of polymers. This methodology is based on two pillars: (i) both techniques cover approximately the same length and time scales and (ii) the classical van Hove formalism allows easily calculating the magnitudes measured by neutron scattering from the simulated atomic trajectories. By direct comparison with experimental results, the simulated cell is validated. Thereafter, the information of the simulations can be exploited, calculating magnitudes that are experimentally inaccessible or extending the parameters range beyond the experimental capabilities. We show how detailed microscopic insight on structural features and dynamical processes of various kinds has been gained in polymeric systems with different degrees of complexity, and how intriguing questions as the collective behavior at intermediate length scales have been faced.

Abstract
This work presents the synthesis of new poly(itaconate)s containing sulfone or nitrile pendant groups through conventional radical polymerization together with their characterization and comparison with poly(methacrylate)s containing identical groups. Structural and thermal characterization has been carried out in terms of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and thermogravimetric analysis. Characterized by broad band dielectric spectroscopy (BDS), all polymers showed dielectric constant values between 7 and 10 (at 25 °C and 1 kHz) and relative low dielectric loss values (≈0.02). BDS measurements showed, for all the polymers analyzed, notorious subglass transitions even at temperatures below -100 °C, resulting in a broad temperature interval in which these polymers exhibit high dielectric constant and could work without high losses. Therefore, these materials seem to be good candidates for dielectric applications such as energy storage, among others.

Abstract
This study is aimed at resolving and characterizing the primary (α) and secondary relaxations (β) in Eudragit® NM30D film based on apparent activation energies derived from complex modulus formalism using dielectric analysis (DEA). The glass transition (T g) of the film was determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The α relaxation corresponding to T g and the β relaxations occurring below T g were probed using DEA. The occurrence of α and β relaxations in Eudragit® NM30D film was elucidated using the complex modulus of the dielectric response employing loss modulus and permittivity data. Activation energies of these relaxations and the fundamental frequency so determined support the assignment of the relaxation pattern in the Eudragit® NM30D film. DEA methodology of the complex modulus formalism is a useful tool for differentiating the α and β relaxation kinetics in Eudragits® not easily studied using traditional thermal methods such as DSC. The kinetics associated with α and β relaxations so determined will provide formulation design support for solid orals that incorporate Eudragit® polymers. As mobility changes can affect stability and diffusion, the dipolar α and β relaxations revealed through DEA analysis may enable a better correlation to functionality of Eudragit® based pharmaceutical dosage forms.

Abstract
We present a simple thermostat device for performing dielectric spectroscopy measurements on polymers close to their glass transition temperature. By using a vacuum chamber containing a Peltier junction with its regulator, we show that a very simple setup yields a temperature accuracy which is good enough for accurate studies of polymer dielectric properties. This technique is also more cost effective than standard setups using cryogenic fluids.

Abstract
Polystyrene melts with a narrow distribution of molecular weights far above the glass transition have been investigated by use of low-frequency anelastic spectroscopy. A liquid-to-liquid relaxation occurs when the molecular weight (Mn) is either above or below the critical molecular weight (Mc) for chain entanglement. As the molecular weight increases, the relaxation temperature (Tp) increases and the movement of the polymer chain is easier for short chains than for long chains. In the range we investigated (Mn∼1.0 × 104-2.1 × 105), the relaxation time (τp) corresponding to the dissipation peak is related to the molecular weight by [Formula: see text]. This is consistent with theoretical prediction. We suggest that the dissociation of the chain clustering is responsible for the liquid-to-liquid relaxation.
