Abstract
Bio-based polyamide 10.10 (PA 10.10) has excellent properties compared to other bio-based polymers such as polylactic acid (PLA) or polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) and is therefore used in more technical applications where higher strength is required. For foam and filament extrusion, a good balance between strength and stiffness of the polymer is needed. Therefore, two commercial chain-extenders (Joncryl® ADR types) with different epoxy functionalities are used to modify the melt properties of PA 10.10. The chain-extenders are used in a concentration range up to 1.25 wt.%. The range of glass transition temperature widens with increasing Joncryl® content, and the apparent activation energy shows a maximum at a concentration of 0.5 wt.%. Furthermore, the melting temperatures are constant and the crystallinity decreases with increasing chain-extender content due to the formation of branches. During the second heating run, a bimodal melting peak appeared, consisting of α-triclinic and pseudo γ-hexagonal crystals. The weight average molar masses (Mw) measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) increased linearly with increasing ADR 4400 content. In contrast, the compounds containing ADR 4468 show a maximum at 0.5 wt.% and it begins to decrease thereafter. The rheological data show an increase in viscosity with increasing chain-extender content due to branch formation. ATR spectra of the compounds show a decrease at the wavelength of the primary (3301 cm-1) and secondary (1634 cm-1) (-NH stretching in PA 10.10) amine, indicating that chain-extension, e.g., branching, takes place during compounding.

Abstract
Several degradable poly(silyl ether)s (PSEs) have been synthesized by dehydrogenative cross-coupling between bio-based 1,4:3,6-dianhydrohexitols (isosorbide and isomannide) and commercially available hydrosilanes. An air-stable manganese salen nitrido complex [MnV N(salen-3,5-tBu2 )] was employed as the catalyst. High-molecular-weight polymer was obtained from isosorbide and diphenylsilane (Mn up to 17000 g mol-1 ). Thermal analysis showed that these PSEs possessed high thermal stability with thermal decomposition temperatures (T-5 % ) of 347-446 °C and glass transition temperatures of 42-120 °C. Structure-property analysis suggested that steric bulk and molecular weight have a significant influence to determine the thermal properties of synthesized polymers. Importantly, these polymers were degraded effectively to small molecules under acidic and basic hydrolysis conditions.

Abstract
In this work, four isohexide-derived isomeric dianhydrides were synthesized through a four-step procedure using isohexide and chloro-N-phenylphthalimides as the starting materials. The one-step solution polymerization of these dianhydrides with petroleum- or bio-based diamines enabled the synthesis of poly(ether imide)s (PEIs), which had viscosities of 0.41 to 2.40 dL∙g-1. The isohexide-derived PEIs were characterized based upon their solubility and their thermal, mechanical, and optical properties. The results showed that most of the isohexide-derived PEIs possessed comparable glass transition temperatures (Tg), tensile strengths, and moduli to petroleum-based PEIs. However, the thermo-oxidative stability of the PEIs was found to be lower than that of the common petroleum-based PEIs. Moreover, the PEIs displayed good optical activity, which originated from their unique chiral isohexide moieties. The isomeric effects of dianhydride monomers on the properties of the resulting PEIs were comparatively studied. The results suggested that the corresponding 4,4'-linked PEIs possessed lower Tg, higher mechanical properties, and higher specific rotations compared to 3,3'-linked polymers. Meanwhile, the polyimides with isomannide residue displayed higher Tg and more specific rotations than the corresponding polymers with isosorbide residue. These results contributed to more restricted rotations of phthalimide segments in 3,3'-linked or isomannide containing polyimides.

Abstract
New carbohydrate-based polyesters were prepared from isoidide-2,5-dimethanol (extended isoidide, XII) through melt polymerization with dimethyl esters of terephthalic acid (TA) and furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (FDCA), yielding semi-crystalline prepolymers. Subsequent solid-state post-condensation (SSPC) gave high molecular weight (Mn =30 kg mol(-1) for FDCA) materials, the first examples of high Mn , semi-aromatic homopolyesters containing isohexide derivatives obtained via industrially relevant procedures. NMR spectroscopy showed that the stereo-configuration of XII was preserved under the applied conditions. The polyesters are thermally stable up to 380 °C. The TA- and FDCA-based polyesters have high Tg (105 °C and 94 °C, resp.) and Tm (284 °C and 250 °C, resp.) values. Its reactivity, stability, and ability to afford high Tg and Tm polyesters make XII a promising diol for the synthesis of engineering polymers.
