Abstract
In this report, a palladium-catalyzed redox-relay Heck process to access optically active alkenylated α,β-unsaturated lactams is described. Under mild reaction conditions, electron-deficient alkenyl triflates and electron-rich alkenyl iodonium salts undergo enantioselective and site-selective coupling with enelactams to deliver the products in high yields and excellent enantioselectivities. Furthermore, the products allow facile access to natural products such as (+)-calvine and (+)-2-epicalvine in addition to the bioactive molecule aza-goniothalamin.

Abstract
This report details a palladium-catalyzed process to access highly functionalized, optically active allylic aryl ethers. A number of electron-deficient alkenyl triflates underwent enantioselective and site-selective coupling with acyclic aryl enol ethers in the presence of a chiral palladium catalyst. This transform provides chiral allylic ether products in high yields and excellent enantiomeric ratios, furnishing a unique disconnection to incorporate heteroatoms at a stereocenter. Finally, the applicability of the products to target synthesis was demonstrated through the formation of a chiral allylic alcohol and the generation of a flavone-inspired product.

Abstract
The synthesis of the novel electronically modified phosphinooxazoline (PHOX) ligand, (R)-5,5-dimethyl-(p-CF3)3-i-PrPHOX, is described. The utility of this PHOX ligand is explored in both enantio- and diastereoselective palladium-catalyzed allylic alkylations. These investigations prove (R)-5,5-dimethyl-(p-CF3)3-i-PrPHOX to be an effective and cost-efficient alternative to electronically modified PHOX ligands derived from the prohibitively expensive (R)-t-leucine.

Abstract
We report a highly enantioselective intermolecular Heck reaction of alkenyl triflates and acyclic primary or racemic secondary alkenols. The mild reaction conditions permit installation of a wide range of alkenyl groups at positions β, γ, or δ to a carbonyl group in high enantioselectivity. The success of this reaction is attributed to the use of electron-withdrawing alkenyl triflates, which offer selective β-hydride elimination followed by migration of the catalyst through the alkyl chain to give the alkenylated carbonyl products. The synthetic utility of the process is demonstrated by a two-step modification of a reaction product to yield a tricyclic core structure, present in various natural products.

Abstract
A novel class of chiral phosphanyl-oxazoline (PHOX) ligands with a conformationally rigid cyclopropyl backbone was synthesized and tested in the intermolecular asymmetric Heck reaction. Mechanistic modelling and crystallographic studies were used to predict the optimal ligand structure and helped to design a very efficient and highly selective catalytic system. Employment of the optimized ligands in the asymmetric arylation of cyclic olefins allowed for achieving high enantioselectivities and significantly suppressing product isomerization. Factors affecting the selectivity and the rate of the isomerization were identified. It was shown that the nature of this isomerization is different from that demonstrated previously using chiral diphosphine ligands.

Abstract
Phosphines are an important class of ligands in the field of metal-catalysis. This has spurred the development of new routes toward functionalized phosphines. Some of the most important C–P bond formation strategies were reviewed and organized according to the hybridization of carbon in the newly formed C–P bond.

Abstract
A highly modular library of readily available phosphite-oxazoline ligands L1-L21a-g was successfully applied in the asymmetric Pd-catalyzed Heck reactions of several substrates and triflates under thermal and microwave conditions. This ligand library contains three main ligand structures that have been designed by systematic modification of one of the most successful ligand families developed for this process. As well as studying the effect of these three ligand structures on the catalytic performance, we also evaluated the effect of modifying several ligand parameters in these ligand structures. The effectiveness of these ligands at transferring the chiral information into the product can be tuned by correctly choosing the ligand components. Both enantiomers of the Heck coupling products were obtained in excellent activities (conversion: >100% in 10 min), regioselectivities (>99%) and enantioselectivities (>99% ee). Under microwave-irradiation conditions, the reaction times were considerably shorter (full conversion was achieved in a few minutes) and the regio- and enantioselectivities were still excellent.

Abstract
We have synthesised a library of phosphite-oxazoline ligands derived from readily available D-glucosamine. These ligands have been successfully screened in the palladium-catalysed Heck reaction of several substrates with high regio- (up to 99 %) and enantioselectivities (ee's up to 99 %) as well as with improved activities under standard thermal conditions. The results indicate that the catalytic performance is highly affected by the oxazoline and biarylphosphite substituents and the axial chirality of the biaryl moiety of the ligand. The Heck reactions were also performed under microwave irradiation conditions, allowing a considerably shorter reaction time (full conversion in minutes) maintaining the excellent regio- and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
Reported herein is a protocol for the enantioselective Pd(II)-catalyzed Heck-type reaction between arylboronic acids and 2,3-dihydrofuran. The highest chemical and optical yields were obtained when a Pd(OAc)2/(R)-MeO(biphenylphosphine) or a Pd(OAc)2/(R)-(2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1'-binaphthyl) catalyst and a Cu(OAc)2 reoxidant were employed.

Abstract
A highly diastereoselective Lewis acid-mediated [1,3] rearrangement of 1,3-dioxepins is the key step along a modular route to 2,3,4-trisubstituted tetrahydrofurans.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A new class of conformationally rigid phosphino-oxazoline ligands were synthesized from readily available enantiopure phenyl glycinol. Ir complexes with these ligands are air-stable and highly enantioselective catalysts for asymmetric hydrogenation of aryl alkenes and alpha,beta-unsaturated esters in up to 99% ee.
