Abstract
β,γ-Unsaturated carbonyl compounds serve as versatile building blocks in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Herein we reported the synthesis of β,γ-unsaturated carbonyl compounds from tetrafluoropyridine sulfides with vinyl halides. This cross-coupling reaction takes the advantage of photocatalysis, as well as zinc catalysis, which is preferred due to its less-toxic, earth abundant, and cost-effective nature.

Abstract
The In(OTf)3-catalyzed α-vinylation of various hydroxy-functionalized quaternary carbon centers using in situ generated isobutylene from tert-butyl acetate is presented as a novel synthetic methodology. Moreover, tert-butyl acetate is a nonflammable feed stock and is a readily available source for the in situ production of vinyl substituents, as demonstrated by the vinylation reaction with quaternary hydroxy/methoxy compounds. Moreover, an excellent selectivity for methylallylation over vinylation was obtained with Ni(OTf)2 as a catalyst. In the case of peroxyoxindole, methylallyl-functionalized 1,4-benzoxazin-3-one derivatives were formed through the sequential rearrangement of peroxyoxindole followed by the nucleophilic attack by isobutylene. The detailed mechanism for this reaction and rationalization for the selectivity are provided using kinetics and density functional theory studies.

Abstract
A methodology for the construction of sterically congested quaternary centers via the trapping of vinyl carbocations with silyl ketene acetals is disclosed. This main group-catalyzed α-vinylation reaction is advantageous as methods to access these congested motifs are limited. Moreover, β,γ-unsaturated carbonyl moieties and tetrasubstituted alkenes are present in various bioactive natural products and pharmaceuticals, and this catalytic platform offers a means of accessing them using simple and inexpensive materials.

Abstract
The synthesis of isomerically pure olefins containing all-carbon quaternary centers is a challenging issue. Herein, we developed an efficient protocol for the synthesis of (Z)-olefins (27 examples, yield up to 97%, Z/E up to 99/1) and (E)-olefins (16 examples, yield up to 94%, E/Z up to 99/1) containing all-carbon quaternary centers. This protocol is adopted for the copper-catalyzed regioselective C-H alkenylation of the tertiary C(sp3)-H bond of 3-aryl benzofuran-2(3H)-ones with alkyne and alkenes. A diverse range of functional groups in the substrates is well-tolerated, such as F, Cl, Br, Me, OMe, ester, CF3, etc. A gram scale experiment was performed in good yield, and the radical mechanisms are also proposed based on the control experiments.

Abstract
Rhamnofolane, tigliane, and daphnane diterpenoids are structurally complex natural products with multiple oxygen functionalities, making them synthetically challenging. While these diterpenoids share a 5/7/6-trans-fused ring system (ABC-ring), the three-carbon substitutions at the C13- and C14-positions on the C-ring and appending oxygen functional groups differ among them, accounting for the disparate biological activities of these natural products. Here, we developed a new, unified strategy for expeditious total syntheses of five representative members of these three families, crotophorbolone (1), langduin A (2), prostratin (3), resiniferatoxin (4), and tinyatoxin (5). Retrosynthetically, 1-5 were simplified into their common ABC-ring 6 by detaching the three-carbon units and the oxygen-appended groups. Intermediate 6 with six stereocenters was assembled from four achiral fragments in 12 steps by integrating three powerful transformations, as follows: (i) asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction to induce formation of the C-ring; (ii) π-allyl Stille coupling reaction to set the trisubstituted E-olefin of the B-ring; and (iii) Eu(fod)3-promoted 7-endo cyclization of the B-ring via the generation of a bridgehead radical. Then 6 was diversified into 1-5 by selective installation of the different functional groups. Attachment of the C14-β-isopropenyl and isopropyl groups led to 1 and 2, respectively, while oxidative acetoxylation and C13,14-β-dimethylcyclopropane formation gave rise to 3. Finally, formation of an α-oriented caged orthoester by C13-stereochemical inversion and esterification with two different homovanillic acids delivered 4 and 5 with a C13-β-isopropenyl group. This unified synthetic route to 1-5 required only 16-20 total steps, demonstrating the exceptional efficiency of the present strategy.

Abstract
β,γ-Unsaturated esters are building blocks in biologically important compounds, pharmaceuticals, and natural products. Because the current synthetic methods often require transition-metal catalysts or lack general variants, we herein describe a simple NaI-involved photoinduced deaminative alkenylation for their synthesis in the absence of photocatalysts and additives. The density functional theory study unveils that the electrostatic interaction of NaI with Katritzky salts is the key to forming the photoactive electron donor-acceptor complex, thus leading to the alkyl radicals for the alkenylation.

Abstract
Dinuclear PdI complexes have found widespread applications as diverse catalysts for a multitude of transformations. Initially their ability to function as pre-catalysts for low-coordinated Pd0 species was harnessed in cross-coupling. Such PdI dimers are inherently labile and relatively sensitive to oxygen. In recent years, more stable dinuclear PdI -PdI frameworks, which feature bench-stability and robustness towards nucleophiles as well as recoverability in reactions, were explored and shown to trigger privileged reactivities via dinuclear catalysis. This includes the predictable and substrate-independent, selective C-C and C-heteroatom bond formations of poly(pseudo)halogenated arenes as well as couplings of arenes with relatively weak nucleophiles, which would not engage in Pd0 /PdII catalysis. This Minireview highlights the use of dinuclear PdI complexes as both pre-catalysts for the formation of highly active Pd0 and PdII -H species as well as direct dinuclear catalysts. Focus is set on the mechanistic intricacies, the speciation and the impacts on reactivity.

Abstract
An efficient base-promoted reaction of O-, N-, and S-nucleophiles with 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoprop-1-ene (HCFO-1233xf) is described providing access to various β-substituted-trifluoromethyl-ethenes under mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic investigations shed some light on the regio-, chemo-, and stereoselectivities observed. The olefins prepared represent attractive intermediates in chemical discovery: some applications include their conversion to pyrrolidines via a [3 + 2] dipolar cycloaddition reaction. These weakly basic amines represent novel synthons that could be readily elaborated through a range of reactions.

Abstract
The silver-catalyzed reaction of silyl enol ethers with dichloroacetylene (DCA) is described. When DCA was used as a solution in diethyl ether, we found that the silyl group was transferred to the vinyl group, resulting in stereochemically pure tetrasubstituted olefins. However, when DCA was used as a solution in the more polar acetonitrile, protonation was the major pathway, and trisubstituted olefins were the dominant products.

Abstract
α-Vinylation of phosphonates, phosphine oxides, sulfones, sulfonamides, and sulfoxides has been achieved by selective C-H zincation and copper-catalyzed C(sp3 )-C(sp2 ) cross-coupling reaction using vinylphenyliodonium salts. The vinylation transformation proceeds in high efficiency and stereospecificity under mild reaction conditions. This zincative cross-coupling reaction represents a general alkenylation strategy, which is also applicable for α-alkenylation of esters, amides, and nitriles in the synthesis of β,γ-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.

Abstract
We report non-decarbonylative Mizoroki-Heck reactions of amide derivatives. The transformation relies on the use of nickel catalysis and proceeds using sterically hindered tri- and tetrasubstituted olefins to give products containing quaternary centers. The resulting polycyclic or spirocyclic products can be obtained in good yields. Moreover, a diastereoselective variant of this method gives access to an adduct bearing vicinal, highly substituted sp3 stereocenters. These results demonstrate that amide derivatives can be used as building blocks for the assembly of complex scaffolds.

Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed α-alkenylation of pyridylmethyl ethers with vinyl bromides is presented. A Pd/NIXANTPHOS-based catalyst system enables a mild and chemoselective coupling between a variety of pyridylmethyl ethers and vinyl bromides in good to excellent yields. Under the mild conditions, β,γ-unsaturated products are obtained without isomerization or Heck byproducts observed.

Abstract
This work describes the vinylation of α-halo carbonyl compounds with vinyl bromides under Ni-catalyzed reductive coupling conditions. While aryl-conjugated vinyl bromides entail pyridine as the sole labile ligand, the alkyl-substituted vinyl bromides require both bipyridine and pyridine as the co-ligands.

Abstract
The direct α-vinylation of carbonyl compounds to form a quaternary stereocenter is a challenging transformation. It was discovered that δ-oxocarboxylic acids can serve as masked vinyl compounds and be unveiled by palladium-catalyzed decarbonylative dehydration. The carboxylic acids are readily available through enantioselective acrylate addition or asymmetric allylic alkylation. A variety of α-vinyl quaternary carbonyl compounds are obtained in good yields, and an application in the first enantioselective total synthesis of (-)-aspewentins A, B, and C is demonstrated.

Abstract
The construction of enantiomerically enriched acyclic quaternary substituted ketones via the regio- and enantiospecific rhodium-catalyzed allylic alkylation reaction of chiral nonracemic tertiary alcohols with cyanohydrin pronucleophiles is described. This approach provides an alternative method to the α-arylation and vinylation of acyclic disubstituted ketone enolates, which remains a challenging endeavor. The combination of the allylic alkylation with ring-closing metathesis facilitates the preparation of enantiomerically enriched 2,2-disubstituted naphthalene-1-ones, which have proven very difficult to prepare using a more conventional dearomatization strategy.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed alkenylation of enolates provides a direct method to synthesize broadly useful β,γ-unsaturated carbonyl compounds from the corresponding carbonyl compound and alkenyl halides. Despite being reported in the early seventies, this reaction class saw little development for many years. In the past decade, however, efforts to develop this reaction further have increased considerably, and many research groups have reported efficient coupling protocols, including enantioselective versions. These reactions most commonly employ palladium catalysts, but there are also some important reports using nickel. There are many examples of this powerful transformation being used in the synthesis of complex natural products.
