Abstract
An electrophilic substitution reaction, without acid and metal, of indole with ammonium tetramethylnitrate for accessing 3-nitroindole has been developed. In this protocol, trifluoroacetyl nitrate (CF3COONO2) was produced by metathesis of ammonium tetramethyl nitrate and trifluoroacetic anhydride at sub-room temperature. Trifluoroacetyl nitrate (CF3COONO2) is an electrophilic nitrating agent for a variety of indoles, aromatic and heterocyclic aromaticity. Meanwhile, this strategy could be applied to construct the skeleton structure of many kinds of bioactive molecules. Interestingly, 3-nitroindole can be further derivatived as a pyrrolo[2,3-b]indole.

Abstract
Inspired by nature's wide range of oxidation-induced modifications to install cross-links and cycles at tyrosine (Tyr) and other phenol-containing residue side chains, we report a Tyr-selective strategy for the preparation of Tyr-linked cyclic peptides. This approach leverages N4-substituted 1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-diones (TADs) as azo electrophiles that react chemoselectively with the phenolic side chain of Tyr residues to form stable C-N1-linked cyclic peptides. In the developed method, a precursor 1,2,4-triazolidine-3,5-dione moiety, also known as urazole, is readily constructed at any free amine revealed on a solid-supported peptide. Once prepared, the N4-substituted urazole peptide is selectively oxidized using mild, peptide-compatible conditions to generate an electrophilic N4-substituted TAD peptide intermediate that reacts selectively under aqueous conditions with internal and terminal Tyr residues to furnish Tyr-linked cyclic peptides. The approach demonstrates good tolerance of native residue side chains and enables access to cyclic peptides ranging from 3- to 11-residues in size (16- to 38-atom-containing cycles). The identity of the installed Tyr-linkage, a stable covalent C-N1 bond, was characterized using NMR spectroscopy. Finally, we applied the developed method to prepare biologically active Tyr-linked cyclic peptides bearing the integrin-binding RGDf epitope.

Abstract
An on-water approach has been developed that allows a nitration of tyrosines and phenols under mild conditions. We envisioned that the assembly of tyrosine/tyrosyl radical couples with interfacial water molecules would realize a biomimetic stacking hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) transition state to facilitate the electron-transfer process. The optimal organic nitrite, 2-methoxyethyl nitrite, resulted in rapid coupling of the tyrosyl radicals with •NO 2 at the oil-water interface to afford the nitrated phenols. Many characteristics found in our on-water strategy are distinct from other complementary systems that include radical nitration. These enticing roles of water in the reaction process introduce new avenues to explore in the design of synthetic organic chemistry systems.

Abstract
AbstractNitro compounds are vital raw chemicals that are widely used in academic laboratories and industries for the preparation of various drugs, agrochemicals, and materials. Thus, nitrating reactions are of great importance for chemists and are even taught in schools as one of the fundamental transformations in organic synthesis. Since the discovery of the first nitrating reactions in the 19th century, progress in this field has been constant. Yet, for many years the classical electrophilic nitration approach using a mixture of strong mineral acids dominated the field. However, in recent decades, the attention of researchers has focused on new reactivity and new reagents that can provide access to nitro compounds in a practical and straightforward way under mild reaction conditions. Organic nitrating reagents have played a special role in this field since they have enhanced reactivity. They also allow nitration to be carried out in an ecofriendly and sustainable manner. Abstract
Aromatic nitration has tremendous importance in organic chemistry as nitroaromatic compounds serve as versatile building blocks. This study represents the electrochemical aromatic nitration with NBu4 NO2 , which serves a dual role as supporting electrolyte and as a safe, readily available, and easy-to-handle nitro source. Stoichiometric amounts of 1,1,1-3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropan-2-ol (HFIP) in MeCN significantly increase the yield by solvent control. The reaction mechanism is based on electrochemical oxidation of nitrite to NO2 , which initiates the nitration reaction in a divided electrolysis cell with inexpensive graphite electrodes. Overall, the reaction is demonstrated for 20 examples with yields of up to 88 %. Scalability is demonstrated by a 13-fold scale-up.

Abstract
The site-selective and metal-free C-H nitration reaction of quinoxalinones and pyrazinones as biologically important N-heterocycles with t-butyl nitrite is described. A wide range of quinoxalinones were efficiently applied in this transformation, providing C7-nitrated quinoxalinones without undergoing C3-nitration. From the view of mechanistic point, the radical addition reaction exclusively occurred at the electron-rich aromatic region beyond electron-deficient N-heterocycle ring. This is a first report on the C7-H functionalization of quinoxalinones under metal-free conditions. In contrast, the nitration reaction readily takes place at the C3-position of pyrazinones. This transformation is characterized by the scale-up compatibility, mild reaction conditions, and excellent functional group tolerance. The applicability of the developed method is showcased by the selective reduction of NO2 functionality on the C7-nitrated quinoxalinone product, providing aniline derivatives. Combined mechanistic investigations aided the elucidation of a plausible reaction mechanism.

Abstract
Despite the utility of 9-silafluorenes as functional materials and as building blocks, methods for efficient functionalization of their backbone are rare, probably because of the presence of easily cleavable C-Si bonds. Although controlling the regioselectivity of iridium-catalyzed direct borylation of C-H bonds is difficult, we found that bromination and nitration of 2-methoxy-9-silafluorene under mild conditions occurred predominantly at the electron-rich position. The resulting product having methoxy and bromo groups can be utilized as a building block for the synthesis of unsymmetrically substituted 9-silafluorene-containing π-conjugated molecules.

Abstract
We report a simple and promising synthetic method to oxidize peptide hydrazides containing N-terminal thiazolidine as a protected cysteine. This yields the corresponding thioester via a peptide azide without decomposition of the thiazolidine ring. The newly developed protocol was validated by the synthesis of the bioactive peptide LacZα.

Abstract
The in situ diazonium reduction reaction is a reliable and well-known approach for the surface modification of carbon materials for use in a range of applications, including in energy conversion, as chromatography supports, in sensors, etc. Here, this approach was used for the first time with mesoporous colloid-imprinted carbons (CICs), materials that contain ordered monodisperse pores (10-100 nm in diameter) and are inherently highly hydrophilic, using a common microporous carbon (Vulcan carbon (VC)), which is relatively more hydrophobic, for a comparison. The ultimate goal of this work was to modify the CIC wettability without altering its nanostructure and also to lower its susceptibility to oxidation, as required in fuel cell and battery electrodes, by the attachment of pentafluorophenyl (-PhF5) groups onto their surfaces. This was shown to be successful for the CIC, with the -PhF5 groups uniformly coating the inner pore walls at a surface coverage of ca. 90% and allowing full solution access to the mesopores, while the -PhF5 groups deposited only on the outer VC surface, likely blocking its micropores. Contact angle kinetics measurements showed enhanced hydrophobicity, as anticipated, for both the -PhF5 modified CIC and VC materials, even revealing superhydrophobicity at times for the CIC materials. In contrast, water vapor sorption and cyclic voltammetry suggested that the micropores remained hydrophilic, arising from the deposition of smaller N- and O-containing surface groups, caused by a side reaction during the in situ diazonium functionalization process.
